The Weekly Dip 1/6/23

We made it you guys, our first Weekly Dip of the year & let me tell you, it’s a doozy! We hope you got your surfboards & more importantly, your balance ready cause the tidal waves are about to be hitting & potentially washing you up ashore with today’s return of our weekly Dip.

Kay Watson - FML (Video)

Last time we heard from the beautifully talented Kay Watson was back in 2021 with her stellar debut “Chapter 23”, I believe our review of that timeless beauty of a project is still floating around the site but now she’s back with one of the sexiest records you’ll hear at the moment, a sensually seductive way to kick off the new year & potential comeback! Now, this particular “FML” abbreviation isn’t what you think it may stand for, she’s calling out the dudes who think they about to just hit & quit it. This is the issue with hook up culture & why most people consider sex to be a sacred act. When you have sex with someone, you’re building a bit of a connection with them, that’s why you’re head ends up getting twisted with confusion when the sex is so good but when you try to take it a step further & get to know the person, they’ve gone full ghost on you. We’re all adults here so that’s why it’s important to specify what it is you’re looking for off rip, if it’s a one night stand then make that clear, it’ll save the both of y’all a whole lot of hassle & heartache. Fuck & make love is just another one of them ones, a gorgeous ode to this predicament we tend to find ourselves in when looking for love & a beautiful return to form for Kay. Let’s hope her sophomore effort finds a release date this year!

SETTHETONE-T - Blood Moon (feat. Apollo Black) (Video)

Still incessant with his promotion for the criminally underrated “AQUAMAN TAPE 2022 FIRST ISSUE”, T, who is at the hilt of lyricism here in San Antonio, debate your reflection, is back with a new visual to the Apollo Black assisted “Blood Moon”. It’s an ominous ode to venturing off into the further of a dark past relationship. SET really paints a vivid picture of a love now deceased with his verse, his eyes glowing red like jewels from hell, a result of his grieving process as he mourns what could’ve been. Apollo is going through the motions as well, blaming himself for the dissolution of this relationship whilst trying to convince her over the phone that they maybe should give this another chance, though both ends know that’s quite unlikely. I must point out the vast improvements these two gentlemen have made when it comes to their visuals cause Irrelevant Imaging directed video is so well shot. Also, I love alliteration & that’s not irrelevant.

JMAC The Dragon - Consistency (Video)

When it comes to breathing that fire on tracks, let alone the industry as a whole, few are as consistent at burning the establishment down like The Dragon. JMAC had a beautiful run throughout last year & shows no signs of slowing down his prolific nature. He’s so serious about not only his pen, which only seems to get more ferocious by the second, nor his music as a whole but more so his continued impact on the culture as he continues to stomp through the scene. Don’t get it twisted, he’s very much about his paper but he ain’t chasing it like these other rappers be, he’s more so concerned with the respect, which he understands isn’t tossed around as lightly as money is. But damn if he ain’t gonna continue striving for that acknowledgment. The visuals themselves are a bit of a recap of how consistently he’s been carving out his craft, both on & off stage, something alot of these clout chasing ass rappers will never have the skill to accomplish & it’s only going up from here, forever on the incline as I say!

Bella Ruby - Shattered (Video)

Isn’t it sad & so abysmal to watch our dreams shatter right before our very eyes? Bella knows this pain all too well on her latest dismally melancholic number. I wouldn’t label this emo by any means cause that’s just a term people toss around because they themselves lack emotions, which is exactly what’s floating ever so tragically throughout this glass heart shattering record. Bella attempts to anneal what’s already been broken, to no avail but still she clings on for dear life to the hope that someday, they can be whole again. It’s quite the depressing record but records like this are needed cause not everything in this life can be peachy keen all the time, sometimes it’s important to express this heartbreak we’re feeling inside, you never know who it may help. If I’m not mistaken either, this is her first music video & what a poignant start to said visual journey, courtesy of Katherine Durrell who captured all this ambient, fleeting beauty.

Meech Bold - 28 (Video)

The homie Khali sent me here & thank GOD for that cause if you ain’t heard Meech Bold by now, then please get out from up under that rock you’ve been living under & if you refuse, his latest will force you out of your hidey hole. “28” finds Meech showing off his lyrical prowess so effortlessly over this insanely whimsical production, I mean, whoever produced this gave him the perfect atmosphere for him to just tear through, as he does. I appreciate the fact that he’s brought back the lost art of one verse records, as he not only is rhyming at an elite level but still sliding in that introspection within it, giving listeners a little insight as to who he was, is & continues to strive to be as his presence continues to reign supremely over the game. Filmed by a genius indeed, with Oludaré Ohi capturing this lightning in a bottle!

Baby Bash, The Bashtones - Me Plus You (feat. Mikey Jimenez) (Video)

Welcome to the Souldies Nation ladies & gentlemen, where all your ideal romantic dreams can come true cause what Baby Bash & The Bashtones curated with this project is so beautifully nostalgic, taking us back to a time where simping wasn’t looked down upon, as it shouldn’t cause that pimping shit is so overrated, we got no room for toxicity around these parts. If you’re not familiar with Mikey then this record alone will turn that right around cause God does he sing with so much soul, that fervor in his crooning will have the ladies swooning, rushing for a chance to be in a committed relationship with him. Once a former member of the Pop group 4th Ave but now solo & soon to be dominating your listening pleasures after this number. The visuals themselves are as soothing as the record, leaving you wish that you too can find a love like theirs. My fragile heart can barely take all this earnestness, it’s just too precious how delicately he treats their relationship!

CVIRO & GXNXVS - Too Much (Video)

Inarguably, one of the best R&B joints I heard all last year, now bleeding into 2023. This simplistic little record is the perfect blend of old & new. These two are in an entirely different league when it comes to the genre, from their vocals to the production to the overall vibe, they just know how to infect listeners. This is that future vintage sound I be talking about from time to time. Not only is the lyricism throughout as intimate as it gets but it’s the perfect jam to blast at your latest function. Haven’t we all dealt with a little girl trouble every now & then. He’s patiently waiting for the both of them to change their ways but it don’t seem to be happening anytime soon. So as a result, what do we tend to do when our relationships ain’t working out? We go out & seek something else, it’s just the way of the world. If you haven’t heard their latest record “Come On In”, then please do for more of these nostalgia based records!
