The Weekly Dip 1/13/23
We aren’t even gonna waste your time with an introduction to today’s weekly Dip, just know that, today’s installment is one of our favorites so far. Each of today’s choices are as elite as they come.
Prada Mama - Big Prada Freestyle (Video)
While 2022 didn’t see too much new music from Prada Mama, it doesn’t mean she wasn’t working as the New York native would start 2023 on a high note by giving us the visual treatment to her 2021 record “Big Prada Freestyle,” where the masses praise and support the release and help celebrate the ringing of the new year. It was a surprise to see, but again Prada never disappoints with unexpected drops, she slated a new release would be given, and it was; now watch the views skyrocket and see Big Prada continue to shine. Her raps come through luxuriously as ever; she came to slay and reflect her grind while looking good in the process. Don’t trip to see her looking like a million dollar while you other chicks look like coupons and dollar menu picks. She’s too classy for the hate with her mind on dead presidents instead of the opposition; they want to see her lose; keep wishing because, with the style she is on, you're going to be waiting for awhile.
Cha’keeta B feat - The Come-Up (Video)
After applying pressure with just two releases in 2022, Cha’keeta B was ready to deliver on her first 2023 drop, which she described as the hardest female collaboration of the year. In the last days of 2022, she began promoting the anticipation single titled “The Come Up” that featured 3K Bri, where she continued to boast about the record’s visual being a certified movie; where from the clips she’s posted this like it was going to be a cinematic performance which once it surfaced, it was that and so much more. Cha’keeta B is an artist who never has a bad visual, and this latest one doesn’t change that narrative; it actually ups the ante. She went all out to make sure she put on the best for her city and talked her shit the best way she knows how.
Aj Snow - Michelandas in Mexico (Video)
AJ Snow is starting 2023 off right where he pressed down prestigious work over Statik Selektah production for his first single of the year titled “Michelandas in Mexico,” which has him laid back in the cut, firing on all cylinder conducting one of the smoothest records we’ve come across so far in the new year. This is pimping at its finest, like gold rope chains in the 80s, especially when it comes to piling on these prominent raps. AJ is unmatched with luxury in his lyrical arsenal; your favorite rapper couldn’t dare bite his style with how many illustrious mannerisms he holds in his pen. It’s a bit cold in Texas, but best believe I'm picturing being outside by the pool with my lady by my side enjoying the sun rays the record provides.
Niko2k - Never Left (Video)
Niko is back like he “Never Left” cause he really hasn’t, I mean the man has been popping up all over Tree Team related records for a minute now, as well as his contributions to the almighty FRITOGANG. It’s beautiful to finally hear him hold his own as a stand-alone artist with this Throwed Mind laced number here! With his easily recognizable voice, he wastes no time in smoothing things out for anyone who thought the Tree’s reign was to stop anytime soon. His flow, his lyricism, his overall swagger is as infectious as it gets. He knows that, regardless of his success thus far, he still has a lot more to prove, mainly to himself as he clearly isn’t phased by all the noise set to deter him away from his goals. In a game chock full of fugaziness, there’s nothing about his character that screams “facade” & he certainly isn’t concerned with what everyone else is doing. He’s not willing to sell out on who he is in order to fit snugly into what’s trendy. If anything, he’s simply different, as he should be. I don’t even feel it’s that, he’s just simply himself, something a lot of people inside & outside of this industry rarely see, let alone could even fathom being. You gotta appreciate the simplicity of the visuals as well. It’s nothing extra about it but still hella creative, with the obvious homage to Snoop Dogg’s GGN Network show! This that BBN Network baby! Shoutout to his co-host as well, the GREAT Big Beautiful Williams! I hope y’all are reading the highlights at the bottom of the screen as well cause there’s some funny shit in a few of them. The Tree Team always delivers that quality & if this is how Niko is kicking off his solo career then not even sky’s the limit.
WHYJAE - OBSESSION (Video)
Off rip, this PinkPantheress sample is out of this world! I’ll let the fans of hers surmise what song this WHYJAE special is showing love to. Two months after hitting us with “AFTER HOURS”, he’s back to slap us silly with his “OBSESSION” for this rap game. I mean c’mon, there’s so much to break down with his performance here. “I’m huggin’ my glock cause I never trust me a bot, I never trust me a thot even when I’m in her box” is a crazy line. Seriously, if WHY gotta be the man to put these fucking Instagram bots away then so be it. A lot of these girls aren’t who they present themselves to be & unfortunately, alot of dudes aren’t as privy as he is to the mind games they play & prey on their unsuspecting victims with but he’ll be damned if a bitch get a penny out of him. You gotta appreciate his honesty with admitting that he don’t got it like that. By no means is he broke, he’s just on high alert is all. She gotta understand, she’s not that special. The only woman he could ever break bread with is his mother, respectfully. The way he seamlessly just rips through this entire verse whilst giving out free game to those of us who may need it is impeccable. After scathing this production the way he did, I’m surprised it still had enough life left in it for him to let it ride out after that. Sheesh JAE! Don’t ever go easy on them! Oh & fuck anybody who doesn’t have the mental capacity to fathom that one specific line in his verse here. It’s so clever yet so simple that it doesn’t even require much thought to wrap your head around what he was saying like wow, people really are that stupid. Don’t ever assume they aren’t. If anything, you keyboard warriors are part of the thot bots he’s talking about.
Adrilla - Minding My Business (Video)
These bitches man, shit was all peachy keen as Adrilla was just minding his business. She ain’t even give him enough time to get out of bed & prep for the day before hitting his line with nonsensical bullshit. Imagine how infuriated she’s getting at the fact that he doesn’t even have the decency to leave her on read. He just doesn’t have the time nor the patience to put up with interrogation tactics, especially this early like, don’t you have a life? Why you gotta impede upon his peace? It’s 4:48 in the goddamn morning shorty. Clearly she needs more than just some D to set her straight, it’s probably what got her acting up in the 1st place. I don’t even think one hit of the shit he be smoking would calm her nerves. What she needs to do is get herself some different goals rather than engage in these desperate attempts to block his but maybe I’m being a little too harsh on her, it’s just annoying is all but Adrilla ain’t gonna allow that to phase him as he effortlessly bounces over this knocking production. He’s still so criminally underrated in my opinion, one of my personal favorite artists out of the almighty FRITOGANG & these new visuals deserve so many more views so let’s fucking get those numbers up!
Mondo Slade feat Kyle Lucas - Pulp Fiction (Video)
If you haven’t heard Mondo Slade’s “Shoots & Ladders” album at this point then are you really a true Hip Hop head? That record should be in every fan’s collection. This “Pulp Fiction” homage is just one of the many gems you’ll find on that record. When Slade & Lucas pull up, rappers are left whimpering, trembling, shivering in their boots like poor little Brett. They dare you to say what again motherfucker, they double dare you! Lyricists like these two strike fear into the hearts of unsuspecting rappers without even trying. Hell, I’d be terrified too if MC’s like them showed up at my door. The way they eat this beat up like one of those Big Kahuna burgers got me craving one myself! Someone get Quentin on the line cause I’m sure he’d appreciate this hilarious homage to his iconic film!
Willo - airhead (Video)
Willo just might be one of the most intriguing characters to come out of the Texas music scene. His flow is as abstract as they come & that’s ever so present on his latest effort here. His mind is just like no other as everything about this record is here is warped. The visuals as well as his lyricism throughout is so schizophrenic. It’s calm nature only makes him seem like more ominous a figure, it’s like when you wake up in the middle of the night & think you’re seeing ghosts in the dark. Imagine an entity like him actually standing in the corner of your room. While his previous records were more fun in their sound & production, I appreciate the route he’s taken with this one. It’s strictly for the deep thinkers who have the time to wrap their brain around the sheer brilliance of it. He becomes more & more interesting the more we venture into the further with him.
Gwalla Boi Slim - Creamy Cram’N (Video)
This just might be the raunchiest R&B record you’ll hear all year. It doesn’t get much straightforward than this number. Gwalla is here for one thing & one thing only. This record is so pornographic in it’s nature that you & the misses will be turning the temp up in the bedroom to spice things up. There’s about to be so many fluids spewing & intermapling but not even that can cool things down. If there were ever a baby making record, it’s this one right here. It’s like WAP but the male version & honestly, with all respect to those queens, leagues ahead of it. I wanna see everybody doing the Creamy Cram’N challenge to this. If you follow him on the gram, you can see the hilarity of him participating in his own challenge, it’s fucking golden.
HU$H - Overstay (Video)
Strange Music continues to expand their roster with some of the most unique artists you’ve ever heard, so much versatility on this label. I mean, they now got a Dubstep artist on the label with HU$H, who fans came to love with his joint EP with label head Tech entitled “BLIGHT” but lately, he’s been crushing it with his solo work & “Overstay” just may have the potential to break him out into superstardom. It’s a dizzyingly infectious, electronically alternative madhouse of a record & his vulnerability in the lyricism, as well as the visuals make it one of the most unique releases to come from Strange. It’s just so chaotically gorgeous. Life can truly feel like a wasteland but Strange Music has always been the medicine to navigate through the darkness, always trying new things & for that, I appreciate them forever.
