The Weekly Dip 9/30/22
We hope everybody has been having a splash of a week! We’re keeping today’s disclaimer short cause we’re just so excited to get into our picks for the weekly dip! Lots of beautiful music to close out another month to!
Sasa Juste feat Mo Dubb - Throne (Video)
Last weekend, Sasa Juste dropped the visual to her fan-favorite record “Throne” off her highly revered EP, “Keys To The Throne,” which is the first video treatment we’ve seen from the project’s release where it has gained enough traction for it to continue her successful reign. The video features Sasa basking on a throne, looking flawlessly as always. At the same time, she delivers her alluring vocals throughout the viewing, while other scenes show her around her people during a live set performance. Other shots show her feature, Mo Dubbs, on the throne as well, afflicting his suave mannerisms into the record, making the single’s relaxation potency come out in a striking look that will surely see it secure more views during the weekend following through to the next month.
$atori Zoom - TYSON (Video)
Earlier in the month, I was introduced to $atori Zoom by his latest video titled “TYSON,” which was one of the most insane releases I’ve seen recently. The visual is hauntingly beautiful, from the ominous creativity throughout the viewing to the eerie combustion of the production that launches $atori flow into a pulsating cycle of vitality & strength. The darkened ambiance of the release is quite evident that we are looking at a different type of being in $atori Zoom which only fuels his artistry to turn up a notch and get ready for the rest of the world to start noticing his superior style.
Roddy Ricch - Stop Breathing (Video)
Roddy never comes around to play, everytime he drops, you know it’s serious business. Inarguably one of the most criminally underrated MC’s out the West Coast, he even stated so himself! On his latest, “Stop Breathing”, Roddy vows to continue his winning streak, never letting up no matter how many people may want him to dissipate into thin air. Shot by a name you should be familiar with by now, especially if you’re from the Texas area, Ace The Shooter gets a big look by being the man behind the lens to this latest banger, you may know him from all the Hoodlum videos but it’s nice to see him branch out. If anything, this record is a celebration for those who’ve been supporting him along his emotional musical journey, with clips of him performing, pulling up to meet fans, the tour life can get pretty hectic but it’s all worth it to him.
Lexx Nova - Build-A-Bear (Video)
That sample at the beginning of this record should automatically tell you this about to be one of them ones & once that transition hits, we get that subtle banger we’ve been craving. Lexx sounds so comfortable in his element, I just love this effortlessly nonchalant style of rhyming. He’s rhyming at an elite level & simply just popping his shit. I also love how Build-A-Bear ain’t mentioned once in this record but you know after this lyrical flexercise that he’s simply stating how soft the competition is, soft enough to never be able to pull a Rubi Rose like he can. With the simple yet sultry visuals, it’s a concise burst of energy that’ll keep you craving for more!
Jagged Edge - Inseparable (Video)
Wait wait wait, you mean to tell me the year I decide to get back into my R&B bag that, the legendary Jagged Edge is back with new music?! “Inseparable” indeed these legends are to have blessed us with another excellent addition to their timeless catalog, it’s like they’ve never lost a step. The quartet are crooning so sweetly on this earnest little number, an ode to the chemistry felt between lovers, especially in the honeymoon stages of the relationship. You know that feeling when you believe you’ve found “the one”, you become attached to the hip & wanna spend every breathing second together. It’s always great while it lasts isn’t it? Why you gotta do it to us JE!
Chris Crack - Therapy Don’t Work, Try Drugs (Video)
Kids, please don’t take the title to this soliloquy seriously, but if we’re being completely honest, I totally feel him on that, sometimes I feel like what some of us go through is too much for a therapist, I’d much rather confide in the blunt. Chris Crack rhyming on here is elite as can be but he has a lot to get off his chest, some names were mentioned to & you can tell it’s personal. The visuals themselves are forever interchanging as much as his bar work is, it’ll be hard for some to keep up but with the soothing production, it makes for some deeply introspective, easy listening. The title alone should draw you into this expressive performance. Fat Beats forever pushing out the dopest lyricists.
Sol Messiah - GOD CMPLX (feat. Sa-Roc & KXNG Crooked) (Video)
Oh you ain’t heard that new Sol Messiah yet? You’re sorely missing out my friend, especially if you’re of the heavy hip hop heads community cause this album got the bars & beats for days, with some of your favorite lyricists absolutely obliterating production from one of the most criminally underrated producers in the game. You may know him from his continuous work with the Goddess of Rhyme, Sa-Roc, who’s also featured on this title track but here’s the twist, we finally get that KXNG Crooked collab from her on here, something we saw them tease in a brief interaction on Twitter a while back & I gotta tell you, their rhymes on here got me shedding god tears cause it’s so fucking God Tier the level these MC’s are rhyming at. You just gotta click & hear for yourself. It’s beautiful seeing the elites come together & absolutely spar!
Suga Free & Yelo Hill - Or Na (Video)
Yelo Hill is one of the newer MC’s out of LA pushing the culture forward in big ways with his quality consistency & his latest only further cements his mark on the game. Linking with the legendary Suga Free, who’s been on an absolute tear lately with features, we love to see his brilliant wit continue to shine through these verses he’s been blessing these young cats with, the two MC’s spit the most ridiculous bars you’ve ever heard over this subtly banging production, it doesn’t get any more West Coast than this. Yelo just has this texture to his voice that makes him sound ever so seasoned in this game!
