Benny The Butcher - Thowy’s Revenge (Video)
Earlier in the week, Benny The Butcher released the visual to his record “Throwy’s Revenge” off his highly acclaimed “Tana Talk 4” album released back in March. Linking with Max Toshiro & Bayshiro Production co for the creative direction, the video opens up with Benny prepping himself before he storms the stage at a sold-out show in Paris. From hustling with packs out on the streets to packing out shows where the crowd knows his name, Benny sends his thanks to West for putting him in when he was ready to ignite. Benny has talked heavily about his come-up, but here he gets to the point with a more hastily approach; this sounds like Benny is fed up with those speaking I’ll on his name with the need to address it. If you weren’t there for the bad, then don’t start talking when the good starts to happen. Benny isn’t coming up for air in The Alchemist-produced joint but instead came to heat up the stoves back up in the kitchen to show y’all how different he is from your favorite rapper. If he said, then he’s done it; no need to fake shit, especially when it got him out here hotter than a junkie's spoon. Hard work and dedication it took him to devise the formula that west enlisted in him, and now he’s running laps around the game, continuing on his path to put Buffalo on his back to the finish line.
Chelly Flame - Hotter (Video)
Getting “Hotter” & Hotter on the scene is Chelly Flame, who’s on full steam ahead with a new release after her last single, “Bandz,” went up on many prominent outlets. They called her the next best thing, and from her latest single, we can see & hear why that is; we’re hoping for more accolades to follow in fueling her artistry to eminent heights. We see Chelly Flame glowing on the throne with the purple hue lighting up her background while she gets to running up her feverous raps to a scorching temperature that is heating the block with her name in bright red letters sitting right above it. Ain’t no one hotter than Chelly Flame right now, and expect the future to burn up with her name, leaving trails of fire on the road to success, with those sleeping on her now waking up to flames surrounding their area.
Cami B - Sigo Ganando (Video)
Last week, Colombian artist Cami B dropped a new visual release titled “Sigo Ganando,” which has her and a few other voluptuous ladies sporting bikini tops & jeans while they all count cash & make deals before it all ends in spectacular fashion. There is plenty of money to go around, which is why Cami takes care of herself without needing a man to do anything for her. From Miami to NY in the Mercedes, Cami is on the thrill of success, seeking what she can now before she falls out of needing love. Cami flexes in her raps while dishing out the looks that can cause any man to catch a fever around her. She’s balling out of control in life, and watch her continue to be a name glowing up in the modeling world and the music industry to follow next.
Karlaaa - Living For Tomorrow (Video)
Earlier in the week, a new visual surfaced from rapper Karlaaa titled “Living for Tomorrow,” which has her spitting game on the fact that the come-up of being famous has its price. Some want to see themselves in your place and will attempt to do whatever it takes to get there or bring you down & hate on you since they can’t make it on their own. Those that see her winning now were the same ones on the bench booing at her to lose which is why she’s ain’t for the new friends type of commitment, so instead, she keeps it 100 with her day ones only. She’s not here to be the same Karlaaa as before; she is evolving into something bigger and better in her city. The game has changed, so should it matter if she did too? She wants to see her people win but not at the cost of selling their souls. Look at her as inspiration before considering tearing her down in retaliation since you don’t have what she does. Big up your people instead of chopping them down, Karlaaa speaks from the heart with this release, and it shows that it’s in the right place to shine bright.
4OUR - I Need U (Freestyle) (Video)
Earlier in the week, I came across this clip on my timeline of a freestyle titled “I Need U” by Portland songstress 4our. I was taken aback by how alluring her vocals were on the release where I needed to see the full video, which didn’t take me long to find and slowly swept me off my feet onto cloud 9 to enjoy this beautiful ballad. Captured in the nightlife lights, 4our is seen with a mic hanging down in her presence while she spills her soul on the record. The feelings she has for you are deep; she’s lost without you in a world that’s so cold and needs to be connected back in your arms. Seeking your love one more time is all she needs to feel whole again, and she yearns for it like an addiction. 4our sung so heavenly on this record; I can tell you firsthand that she got a new fan over here on this side, and I’m sure plenty more will follow suit.
Chloe Jobin - The More I Think (Video)
Creative kids, or just fucking weirdos? Why not both cause, after all, who wants to normalized? Artists tend to be abnormal in their thought processes. Taken off her “A Different Light” project, we find Chloe out in the open, trying to gather her many thoughts that seem to just be whisking away with the winds, dissipating all throughout this number. Filmed on her dad’s old VHS camera, we witness shots of her in various places, she just can’t stay put for too long & must roam this earth a free spirit, a vagabond of sorts. Her lyricism on this record feels like she’s shattering the idea of overthinking it, maybe that’s what the glass head represents, Priscian’s head. If you think about it deeply enough, nothing really makes any sense, we’re all just existing in our own intriguing little bubbles, doing things we deem cool.
Aesop Rock x Blockhead - All the Smartest People
At least if you have the mental capacity to be in the know then you know when you see these two, it’s gonna be a mind ending listen. Two of the most abstract minds in this industry, Blockhead’s production continues to mystify, even at his most subdued. It’s always the perfect basis for Aesop to deliver his thought provoking lyricism. Aesop’s extensive vocabulary is always at play, even when he’s weaving a tale of an arrogant young man, so dearest in his mindset that he ignores the danger that awaits. Most young people tend to not wanna heed the advice of their elders so let this be a cautionary tale that, if someone older is trying to teach you something, it’s for a reason. You’re not as smart as you may think you are, remember that. These also may be the most warped visuals we’ve seen from Aesop, who’s always given us some of the most creative visuals to match his whimsical music.
Vinnie Paz - Slight Rebellion off Madison
Vinnie Paz is one of the rawest, most hardcore lyricists of our time. Most know him from his legendary work as a member of Jedi Mind Tricks & Army of the Pharoahs, but as he continues to age gracefully, his sound only gets more grimier & his raw, gravely flow has a lot to do with it. With a ear for production that only remains sharp as it’s ever been, Paz is ready to bless listeners with the first look into his latest installment, “Tortured in the Name of God’s Unconditional Love”, with a title like that, you know you’re in for a heavy balance of God level lyricism & that hardcore grit fans have come to appreciate from the Ol’ Pistol Pazzie!
Cortez - Black Hearts (feat. Eto & Crisis)
If you know anything about the battle rap scene then you’ve heard the name Cortez & you know he’s one of the deadliest to ever step foot in that arena & given the rebirth of it, his heart has only further blackened when it comes to relentlessly firing shots at his competitors, a lot of innocent bystanders become collateral damage when his rap hands get to flailing. Steadily on his way to transitioning from battle rap legend to full blown artist, Cortez shows no signs of letting up anytime soon with his latest sequel to last year’s problematic “Resolutions” project, oxymoronically so. Tapping two other killers in the Latino community with Crisis & Eto, these three killers are out for blood on this record.
Phínix - Hotbox (Video)
I’m loving the growth I’ve been seeing from Phínix, she’s been patiently rising above the ashes, spreading her wings ever so gracefully. I really admire the confidence we’ve been seeing from her lately. Her music is only improving as she continues to give listeners that diversity throughout her soundscapes. If you go back to records like “Make It” & the recently released “The Flow”, you’ll see she’s capable of giving you that introspection, the bars & now venturing off into weed laced drill rap. Cannabis connoisseurs will appreciate her efforts here but none will want the smoke with her, not even the voices in her head. Whatever she’s smoking on got her demons running laps to get away from her.
David Bars - Sick n Tired
Did you know Parks from the Joe Budden podcast was a producer & a damn good one at that cause I sure as hell wasn’t aware but after stumbling on his recent work with Passport Gifts, I had to do some more digging & stumbled upon David Bars, who more than lives up to his name. Parks production here is epic & David waxes ever so eloquently over it. There is nothing like a good sample & only the most skilled can do what David has managed to do over it. He’s barring out, just calmly killing it but it’s equal parts introspective & informative, which sets him higher above most rappers as of current. Definitely an MC to keep your eyes peeled for!
