The Weekly Dip 8/26/22

We hope everybody has been having a beautiful week & well, with all this rain we’ve been having, we wouldn’t be surprised if y’all were already getting around to dipping before us but we got some more to flood your day with so shall we?

Nyra Nayara - I.T.B (Video)

A little late to the party, but it don’t matter when you arrive, only how you show up, which is the kind of boss mentality I got when I came across Nyra Nayara’s music earlier this week. Her 2021 single “I.T.B” came across our feed recently, which immediately got me hooked to her explosive energy, especially how she’s rocking throughout the release. The record was accompanied by a visual that shows off her luxurious attitude while also parading her endurance to run laps with the raps. It’s unusual to speak about an old release, but when we see star power, we know how to appreciate it. Nyra made a few fans on this side, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her in upcoming drops.

Parté Boiz - BABU (Video)

Earlier in the week, we saw a visual on Twitter making the rounds of being retweeted and liked which we thought we jumped in to see what the fuss was about, and I’m glad we did. Dallas duo Parté Boiz dropped a very eccentric video earlier this month titled “BABU,” The record has been skyrocketing with plays since 2020. Still, with a prominent following, the release, now having a viewing, sees the group & their features showing out with comical and illustrious nature for the video. Backed with energy-fueled charisma and the nack to be downright ridiculous with the wordplays, you already know this is a hit that will keep any function lit throughout its entirety. For sure, I can see the views piling on for the remainder of August that will pour over to the next month.

Chelly Flame - Bandz (Video)

In the middle of the week, we received a submission from Atlanta native Chetty Flame who had just dropped a new video titled “Bandz,” which has the A-town femcee scorching up the viewing, showcasing her stunning prowess and prestigious energy when it comes to the melodic rapping she dishes out. The video is catching on fire, with a substantial amount of views picking up in just 24 hours since it surfaced, with the attention growing more & more for Chelly Flame. Ignited with a catchy chorus and the ability to harness such a wavy style about her, you can understand why this is one of the hottest drops this week. We’re bound to see Chelly Flame in full fledge force very soon, so it’s probably best you get on board to her music and make yourself a fan today.

Izzy93 & Lil A - Dubs (Video)

Fresh off the announcement of his recent signing with Shawn Cotton‘a label and I’m his sit down on Mazi’s World podcast, Izzy93 & Lil A linked back with Retro Moy to share their newest visual release titled “Dubs.” Both artists showcase their melodic nature by devising a punctual chorus while serving out the raps with the same transitions. Izzy93 & Lil A largely base their come-up efforts and success in this release on motivating them to continue running the charts up in the city and hopefully throughout the rest of the world soon. It logs greatly on their continuous streak of hits without having to drop albums or EPs; they make noticed with just the visuals alone and the promise that fans will gravitate to the releases. Expect more hits like this to be delivered until the end of the year, with anticipation growing to see the next release run hot.

Switch & Sythe - Memories (Video)

BC, Canada’s very own Switch links with producer Sythe to ponder a few “Memories” on this introspectively daunting number. Anybody who is without a father can relate to this number here as Switch takes us down memory lane, both lyrically & visually. It’s evident that his mother loved his father til the very end so you can only surmise how she must be feeling not having him in the flesh anymore. Sure, he’s there in spirit & while that does have to count for something, it’s simply not enough. As we reach senescence, those memories often times tend to unfortunately dissipate into the four winds & there’s very little we can do to grasp that. It’s a scary thought knowing how easily we can forget things no matter how much we tell ourselves we would never as we so desperately cling onto the fond memories of that person. Someday you’ll wake up & realize that you haven’t thought about that person, at all, it wasn’t intentional, it kinda just happens & that’s the moment you know you can forget. It’s beautiful storytelling on Switch’s part with Sythe giving him the perfect bed for him to let his bleeding heart spill all over it.

Skipp Whitman - Practice (Video)

Hailing for LA, Cali, Skipp Whitman may be the best artist YouTube has ever recommended me. Off rip, the skillset is evident as he waxes eloquently over an ethereal ephemeral production piece. The subdued instrumentation alone is enough to seep deep into your psyche, let alone when he starts spilling this elite level lyricism over it, allowing it to fuse effortlessly with the loop. Overall, the sound is as psychedelically enthralling as the lyric video itself, chock full of random footage of various interviews that are brilliantly in sync, almost as if each of these individuals is actually rapping these lyrics in this retro beauty of a lyric video. I believe this will soon hit his Bandcamp so stay tuned for that & stream his latest “BALACLAVA BETTY” today!

Hitman Shawty - They Said (feat. Rittz) (Video)

The South always has something to say don’t they? If you’re familiar with Gwinnett County’s own Rittz then you’re aware of one of his partners in Hitman Shawty & here they have finally blessed us with their 3rd collab in “THEY SAID”. Both these gentlemen speak of the struggles they’ve had to face trying to make it up out of their environment, from fallen friends to shattered dreams, a lot of folk assumed they would never be able to make a name for themselves, yet here they are, thriving but still never forgetting where they came from & all it took to get to this point. Hitman’s introspective storytelling hits you right in the heart as Rittz showcases more of his singing chops in that soulful chorus of his. Both of these gentlemen are criminally underrated in this game & a record like this will surely remind or inform people of these veterans in this game, still going strong after all these years.

Dove Cameron - Breakfast (Video)

You may recognize her from the popular Disney show “Liv and Maddie” but she’s long since grown from her early days & is now exploring more of her musical side with her latest anthem “Breakfast”. Starting with a disclaimer that flips the script & imagines a world where men’s reproductive rights are under attack rather than women’s, something I think a lot of men assume would never happen but honestly if they keep toying with women & attacking them every chance they get, push may come to shove & it already has with this man eating record. There’s so many lines in this sultry video that speak to this sentiment, one of the main ones being “and make sure you’re dressed appropriately so you’re not provoking women” & boy do I tell you, the women are gonna eat this record up as much as Dove has!

Dead Cross - Heart Reformer (Video)

Who’s still listening to Metal music is 2022 you may ask? Well, when you got a group of legends slated to drop their first release since their debut back in 2015 then you know you’re in for something special, a revival of sorts of the genre. Taken from their upcoming “II” album, “Heart Reformer” is as insanely detrimental an experiment as you’d expect, with the subject in the visuals frightened as doctors continuously poke & prod at him for their own gain. Open heart surgery has never sounded more intimidating than it already is & knowing the insanity filled world we’re living in, especially today’s climate, we wouldn’t be surprised if these doctor’s aren’t even trying to reform this person’s heart, rather they’re stealing this vital organ. Expect more insanity like this throughout their sophomore effort.

Slipknot - Yen (Video)

Self immolation, darkness, somber tonalities, reminiscent of records like “Snuff” or “Vermillion”, we’d say Slipknot is slated to drop another classic album. “Yen” kinda feels like a continuation of the themes of those records. Love can be a very toxic thing as exemplified in this striking visuals. Even without the mask, Corey still strikes fear into our hearts & we thank him for that. Halloween has come early with these visuals, I’m assuming are shot in an abandoned church, which only adds to the horrifying nature of the record, kinda feels like something out of Silent Hill. Two singles in & it’s safe to say that nobody is safe from the wrath of the almighty Slipknot!

Don Welch - Outlaw Love (feat. Shayne Marie) (Video)

Don Welch is the self proclaimed modern day Johnny Cash, a true gunslinger when it comes to this music of his. It’s amazing to me when artists this fresh hit the radar, someone who literally sounds like nobody other than himself for his sound is one you can’t necessarily compare to anyone. It’s like a more violent sounding, readapation of those old western films, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the man who shot John Wayne. On “Outlaw Love”, he’s all about attaining that of which is forbidden & is willing to fight tooth & nail for the two to be together. He & Shayne are like, Bonnie & Clyde circa ‘22 if you ask me. Both are more than willing to die for one another, as well as terrorize the poor village folk if they don’t cough up what they feel is rightfully theirs. Anybody looking for something unique out the countryside should look not further than the Don!
