The Weekly Dip 9/2/22

We’re happy to have made it through yet another grueling month & are happy that y’all are still along for the ride. The year ain’t over yet though so we got plenty left showcase throughout our weekly dips. Today’s selections are sure to cause ripple effects with the waves these records have been making.

Tay Money feat Monaleo - Hands Up (Single)

Head down ass up, that’s why she likes to rap; Tay Money is back with another hit single on her hands with her latest release titled “Hands Up” featuring Monaleo that is right on time before labor weekend. Another rump shaker from Tay that we can expect to see run heavily during her performances, and adding the intensity of Monaleo’s verse to it makes it a scorcher in the competition of the sun to see what’s hotter. We can expect this hood hop drop from Tay securing plays these few days, and she’s been showing out a bit more promoting the single, which means she could be gearing up to work on a visual for it or could be finishing it up here in the upcoming days. We know Tay won’t disappoint, so before we get to talking about a video in the near future, make sure in the meantime, you get your hips shaking with the single in rotation for this three-weekend. - Frank C

Unforsaken Prophet - Murdabach (Video)

Earlier this week, Unforsaken Prophet dropped his Reel Trippy-directed video “Murdabach” off his upcoming project “Bound By Blood” with Chi-town producer Stasson. I can tell you first hand this single gets you prepared for the hell-raising sound you’re expected to hear in his anticipated album by just giving you an ounce of wrath. While the production may be laid back, Unforsaken Prophet stretches out his treacherous style over knife chopping and gun-toting rap scheme that symbolizes his art of a crime scene. With the visual captivating an eerie reflection of UP’s sinister persona, he’s masked up with spellbinding skills and his signature hoarse tone that shows you hell is upon us and we’re close to seeing it on earth soon. - Frank C

Stasseny - Be Pretty (Single)

Don’t expect Stasseny to just “Be Pretty,” stay quiet & listen because she ain’t that type of woman; she’s told you already she’s boujee and fine while spazzin during performances and not needing to talk down on anyone since she’s too high up to be dealing with y’all’s bullshit. Stasseny is running rabid in this single, expressing the lack of men only taking her for just a pretty face when she’s much more than that. You got cash? No, we’ll look at the bankroll Stasseny is bringing in without a man; the crowd at her shows doesn’t lie. She’s the girl you wish you had, and if you did, you're regretting it now; best believe a woman like her only comes once in a lifetime, so if you missed it, it’s a shame. She is gleaming with perfection, so don’t you try tearing down a queen that is winning when you aren’t getting any clout. She’s realer than real and will continue to back it up whenever she can; ain’t no coming close to bossing up in the ATX like Stasseny, and here’s an example of why. - Frank C

Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud featuring Bandgang Lonnie - Stick Up Kids (Video)

At the top of August, Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud released their collaborative 14-track project titled “You Take The Credit, We’ll Take The Check,” which had the Vancouver lyricist applying pressure over the prestigious production of Harry Fraud that would make this album one of the finest pieces to drop in the month and an incredible addition so far in the year. The project featured artists like Curren$y, Larry June, Kamaiyah, Conway The Machine & many more, complementing the already illustrious combinations of Jay & Harry’s workload that shine on numerous occasions throughout this album. If the project wasn’t enough to showcase the duo’s wave, they continued to press down with success on a visual earlier in the week for their Bandgang Lonnie-featured record “Stick Up Kids.” The video takes the complex rhyme scheme of the track and builds off the creative shift of making it look intense, but that’s expected when you get this level of lyricism. Bind by wrath and glory, both these emcees reflect why rapping this superior is still an incredible gift in this craft. - Frank C

Lily Forte - Only Ways (Single)

Instagram advertising is coming in clutch this Friday afternoon before we seal the deal on our Weekly Dip series. I came across this ballad from Lily Forte titled “One Ways,” where she sings of the strain of being pulled into obsession over someone who doesn’t notice her. She loses friends and possible happiness to search for love with this person, and sometimes the crazed effect haunts her to do unspeakable things. Things she knows have his interest at heart, but many will not understand. It’s a powerful tale that comes to life so perfectly in the visual for it that I can see I might be falling into a little obsession myself for Lily Forte’s music. She’s an artist that has something special in her craft, and we hope to see more of it in the near future. - Frank C

Phora - Find Hope (Video)

It gives me hope knowing that artists are getting back to doing what they love, creating the music they love. As Phora stated in a recent post regarding these visuals, he hasn’t felt this way about his work in quite some time. As artists, the focal point tends to be solely on us & our story that it can be hard for people to relate to at times but with records like this, which are few & far between, it’s beautiful to see the artist shine light & give hope to, not just his loved ones but other people out there struggling whom he may not know. The record is a tearjerker if I’ve ever heard one, from the instrumentation to the heart, soul & emotion he’s allowing his pen to bleed out. Anybody who may be on the verge of giving up because the pain is too unbearable, to just stay here with us a little longer, your time to shine is coming, trust.

Gabby Annalyse - Very Important People (Video)

It’s been a few months since Gabby blessed us with “Birthday” but now fret not, her follow up smash hit is now here & it’s chock full of all that attitude & punch you expect from her whenever she feels so inclined to pop her shit off. Records like this really showcase that she’s no slouch when it comes to her flow, she’s feisty lyrically, even the hook is more complicated than most people’s hooks but it’s still catchy as ever, may be the most words people will have to memorize with a hook. She don’t chase anybody & that’s why she’s been it from the get go, she don’t hate, she just stays in her own lane & people only wish they were enough to importance your swerve into it. Her & her people have always been very important people so you know wherever they pop up, they’ll be shutting shit down!

Tay Diggs x Rayvon Oddboy - NWA (feat. JL BHood & Suli4Q) (Video)

Kansas City is a haven for Hip Hop & it’s beautiful to see all these mainstays come together to absolutely just pop their shit off. Suli kicks shit off with a hilarious hook, kicking his side piece to the curb cause bitch, we got work to do & you just taking up space but if you’re polite enough, he may just let you in. Rayvon however ain’t so welcoming, it’s gonna take more than being a bad bitch to get his attention. He damn sure ain’t gonna be chasing after you. Tay slides through to show off all the hotties he’s been able to attain as a result of his success but little do they know they’ll be gone by morning. JL absolutely steals the show by absolutely sliding over this hyphy instrumentation, his chopper flow cuts through so perfectly on it. One of the hardest posse cuts you’ll hear all year!

Bankreaux - HOLY GHOST FREESTYLE (Video)

“Free Kill II” garnered so much success that Bank said, you know what, let me just spoil the fans with more of me popping my shit off. The Holy Ghost has taken over his pen game & flow on this one. The production alone is hard enough to make the angels weep & got him ever so prepared to fire off on any demons who may be trying to slither their way into his circumference. Bank don’t got no time or patience to deal with the fugaziness that plagues this game, he really lived the things he raps about & not only that but he weaves his tale better than most from a lyrical standpoint. Let’s hope this isn’t the only tease we get from Bank cause if he’s starting off this intense, then the opps are in for the rudest of all awakenings. Jesus can walk through right now & he won’t be able to save you from his wrath.

Romanorybt - Chula Pt.2 (feat. Dedagod) (Video)

Taken from his impeccable “Meet Me Halfway” album, Romanorybt blesses us with the visual treatment to one of the toughest lead singles to a project with Chula. There’s two versions of this record back to back on the album & both are equally impressive lyrical feats. I love how much of a rapping ass dude he is but still incorporates a healthy use of autotune to make it infectious for the listener, kinda just proves that he can do what everyone else does but much better than they could even imagine to. He know he a pretty boy to these chulas as well but little did they know that he’s really something serious when it comes to this rap shit & Dedagod absolutely obliterates this record with his double timing. It’s exciting to see artists create hit singles but still feel so inclined to not sacrifice any of the lyrical skill.

El Gant - Pageants (feat. Ras Kass) (Video)

It’s beautiful to see 2/3 of the almighty Jamo Gang continue to collaborate & create classic head nodders for all us lyrical heads to cherish for years to come. If heavily dense lyricism isn’t to your liking then I suggest acquiring better taste buds for such an acquired taste cause what these two cooked up with this one is ambrosial. Produced by the legendary Marco Polo, these two waste no time calling out the bullshit for what it is whilst still staying sharp from the lyrical standpoint, as they always do. The thing about these two is that you can always expect to learn something new when listening to them, especially Ras Kass, who is still delivering some of his most impactful writing to date! A massive first single to El Gant’s upcoming album, which should be another killer addition to his catalog.
