The Weekly Dip 8/19/22

We hope everybody has been having a splash this week cause the tidal waves coming in today’s weekly dip, we’ve already said too much, just make sure you’re riding these waves!

Vanita Leo - Marchate (Single)

Earlier in the week, I was introduced to songstress Vanita Leo through her recent single titled “Marchate,” which is this beautifully sung ballad speaking of heartbreak and the hardship of moving on from it. The record is in Spanish, and while we attempt to branch out more to understand, we do get the jest of her single and have been carefully instructed on the translation of the song that helps us understand better the meaning behind the record. We see Vanita has been steady on the incline with her music which isn’t a surprise since, from the record alone, we know she’s a talented artist that deserves to be treasured, where her talents will gather more attention & praised in the near future.

Armani Caesar feat Benny The Butcher & Stove God Cooks - Hunnit Dolla Hiccup (Single)

Continuing to keep her fans in heavy anticipation for her follow-up album, “The Liz 2”, Armani Caesar surprised listeners this week with a new joint titled “Hunnit Dolla Hiccup,” where she linked with her Griselda brethren Benny The Butcher & Stove Jesus to showcase some of the sounds you can expect to hear on her upcoming sophomore release. The pressure from this track is cracking skulls & dislocating limbs; Armani bodies her verse with slick & cunning prowess while Benny attaches the caliber to his combative wordplay and lefts off rounds. It's almost like a militia in the forefront in battle, then having Stove God anchors the record placing his stamp on the brick of a release and serving it hot in the streets. Armani conducted a heavy release accompanied by a visual that will hold us until her album gets a release date.

Miss Kaniyah - Break My Soul (Remix) (Video)

Thinking I got the weekly dip sewn up, I saw that MissKaniyah dropped her remix of Beyoncé’s “Take My Soul,” & while she’s already told you she’s outside stunting, she continues to be out. Still, this time she gots a purple bodysuit and flaunts her voluptuous self on the dance floor, adding some zesty rhymes to the production. She got this viewing feeling like the Texas summer heat; she’s making it rain lava with the way she’s moving and grooving in this release. I pray Beyoncé sees this and makes it official; MissKaniyah, doesn’t hold back any punches showing you that she’s the queen bee in charge around here, and she lets her strut and raps do the work. Don’t get it twisted; ain’t no one working hard like MissKaniyah is, so let you haters start chirping on the sidelines while she basks in the winning circle on her latest release.

Aliza1K - MY TIME (Single)

After teasing fans with the visuals for “The Second 48”, Aliza is back applying that usual pressure on “MY TIME”. She couldn’t have picked a better time to drop this either, still fresh off the Kim Kardashian shoutout, which only seemed to make her hungrier than ever to continue proving her skills on the mic. The way her bars just cut through the beat is remarkable, she’s not relying on anything other than her skills as a lyricist, even her hook on this record is bar after bar, more complex than most rapper’s choruses. That raw, seething passion continues to bleed through her pen, she raps like she still hasn’t scratched the surface of what she’s capable of because she hasn’t, it’s light work for her at this point, child’s play if you will. Aliza is one of the most ferocious MC’s to ever step in the ring & if you dare try to step into it with her, her lyrics will put you through the wringer. She worked hard to get to this point in her life so she’ll be damned if she don’t do everything in her power to maintain it. It’s like she’s taken all the criticisms towards her & just threw it all right back in the face of her detractors & they just sitting there dumbfounded, as they should be.

Steven King - Delicacy (Video)

It’s time to wish upon “A Fallen Star” in Steven King on his latest visuals for standout “Delicacy”. It’s not everyday I hear records like this, infectious as can be, autotuned laced lyricism & at an elite level at that. J Allan’s production remains some of the best we’ve ever heard in this game, if you need a hit on your hands, something so So Catchy, then he’s the man to ask. All Steven wanna do is smoke his good weed, spit his raps & live his life to the fullest, he has no time to deal with anyone trying to take a piece of that away from him. He’s working hard to leave the past behind him & is reveling in the anew. He fires off bar after bar, zero filler on this reflective number. He’s not even at his peak, yet people still expect the most from him but he ain’t obligated to deliver to anybody who ain’t adding some sort of quality to his life. Only the famished can stomach this “Delicacy”, it’s an acquired taste, like ambrosia.

Reverie x Gavlyn - Promises (Video)

Reverie & Gavlyn are here to shatter promises, leaving those head over heels for them heartbroken on “Promises”. A lot of dudes can’t handle not being attached to their woman’s hip, they feel intimidated by strong, powerful women such as these two but they too busy out there getting it, they don’t have time for anyone who doesn’t understand that they could never be at the top of their priority list. It’s a shame too cause they actually like the people they were involved with, til shit went awry now they’re left to just party that pain away. Taken off of Reverie & Louden’s latest “No Chaser”, “Promises” is for sure to have all the single ladies acting reckless in the club with this floor stopper!

Eto - War (DJ Doo Wop Freestyle) (Video)

Eto one of the most criminally overlooked lyricists in this game so once you’re done with the work he put in with this freestyle, be sure to revisit his massive catalog thus far, you won’t be disappointed. Spitting over “War Get” from the Infamous Mobb, another hidden gem in the Hip Hop world, Eto sounds vicious as ever. He just has that voice that forces you to listen, it has this sneering bravado to it & him sitting by that fire makes it all the more ominous. Taken off of a compilation DJ Doo Wop is slated to release soon, Eto is one of many MC’s you can expect spitting over some unexpected Hip Hop classics & further serving justice to these timeless instrumentals!

Zensoul - Follow Me (Video)

You don’t get a lot of great Lo-Fi Hip Hop these days. Water the Plants offers Zensoul the perfect riverbed for them to float over on this introspective number. Zensoul have very conversational flows as they litter gems all over this record. They not here to overpower in any sense, the instrumental & their lyricism both beautifully in sync with one another as they seek to elevate your mental with their thought provoking lyrics, painting the picture of them creating this art ever so eloquently. It’s pure poetry in motion delicately seeping into your psyche & opening up your mind to seeing all the beauty in this whole life. Nothing but free jewelry on this meditative number.

Murs & Rob Viktum - Breaking Glass (Video)

Very few are as prolific in this game as Murs, I mean after all this time in this game & he’s still pushing the envelope. As he stated himself, there just aren’t enough songs that showcase how sexy pregnant women are. The visuals for this record are as subtle as the record itself. Rob Viktum delivers an ominously freaky-esque instrumental for Murs to weave this story into. His storytelling remains immaculate as ever & he’s absolutely correct in his sentiment. Where would we be without all the sexy pregnant women, we would cease to exist obviously. This song & visuals are not safe for work but honestly, who cares, it’s beautiful & even hilarious at times, just wait til you hear the last bar of the 2nd verse, Murs is a wild dude but you gotta respect his authenticity!

Sudan Archives - NBPQ (Topless) (Video)

Stones Throw is responsible for some of the most unique artists you’ve probably never heard of & Sudan, she’s just one of many. Her latest visuals are as colorfully abstract as they come, very avant-garde stylistically, musically, as well as lyrically. The arrangements of this record are bouncing off of many different walls. She ponders how different things would be if she was light skin, maybe they’d take her art a little bit more serious but she don’t care cause she’s here to exemplify how far from average she is as an artist. She’s advocating for women to just be themselves, regardless of how society may perceive them, it’s truly of no concern to you. A lot of people may not know what to think after experiencing this mind fuck of a piece of art but I’m all for music, art that pushes the boundaries of what’s quote unquote, acceptable.

RENE (WrittenxRene) - Hurtboy (Video)

This is actually my introduction to RENE, though I have consistently seen the name, so please forgive me for sleeping, I’ve clearly been missing out. On “Hurtboy”, RENE expresses his frustration & pain with all his old flames. It’s an ominous record that finds him speaking directly to this person who wronged him. He don’t have time to deal with how he makes someone else feels by simply doing what’s in his best interest, she knew what she was getting involved with when she first began dealing with him so it’s not his fault for her assuming she could change him. He did everything he could for this person but now that he’s cut them off, they wanna come crawling back out the woodwork as if he owes them, even an explanation as to why it didn’t work out. He put this person in position but they sadly weren’t able to maintain it & it’s not on him to put her back in a better place. It’s a very gloomy record & a raw, poignant introduction to an artist I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for more of.
