The Weekly Dip 8/12/22

We hope everybody has had a week as monumental as a lot of today’s selections are! In celebration of Hip Hop turning 49, today’s selections, at least for the most part, are strictly honoring some of the great lyricists of our time so shall we not waste anymore time & dive right in?

Jaydonclover feat Bel Corbain - but my sister (Single)

Received at the top of the week via email submission, we got introduced to songstress Jaydonclover by her most recent single titled “but my sister,” featuring Bel Corbain. The mystified sounds starting from the production help garnish the essence of Jaydonclover’s vocals throughout the ballad. Once you feel like you peaked over the clouds, Bel Corbin will raise you just a step up near the stars where you are colliding with moons & planets to float down back in stunning relaxation. It’s a beautiful and tranquil release with a lyric video showcasing Jaydonclover lounging in her creative space, thinking about what could’ve been with a love interest. Her head is tangled with her inner thoughts, and while Bel becomes a voice of reason in the track, she still finds herself backtracking with love on her mind wondering if the proper steps were made or if the right things were said. It’s a harmonious release and one that made us instant fans of both Jay & Bel’s art.

Lou Ridley - Bless Your Heart (Video)

I came across one of the most powerful records this morning from Nashville native Lou Ridley who had just dropped the stunning visual to her conscience single, “Bless Your Heart.” It shows you the painful representation of how the government treats women & their rights, especially with the recent overturning of Roe Vs. Wade where their voices are now being muted with the higher-ups, particularly men, seizing the will on what many women choose to do with their own bodies. It’s a wound that’s been open way before this terrible incident in America, and I feel this release raises much awareness and compassion to those who continue to fight for what is right. This viewing is such an eye opener for those oppressing the millions of women fighting for their bodies & rights; it’s time to face the music and see what your heinous actions have done. Lou Ridley is a treasure that we should be recognizing, and god if this doesn’t bring a few tears to your soul, then I don’t know what does.

ImaniCarolyn - Come Home/Water (Video)

After releasing her debut album, “Into The Blue Light,” ImaniCarolyn followed it up with a visual treatment to her records “Come Home” & “Water.” She shared previews and BTS leading up to the release, and still, it doesn’t do the whole thing justice. The video has Imani parading around an island, thinking of coming home to her love interest; they’ve already expressed feelings and more for her. She’s feeling them as well, or she wouldn’t be singing to the heaven if she’s wasn’t; it definitely catches a vibe or two in the viewing experience which goes on to part two of the video. Darkening the skies while kept at the foot of the beach, Imani’s mind is racing on what is beyond the water depth for her and this companion. Mixed emotions are playing out in her mind and she doesn’t know how to take it all in. Still, she stays complacent with some hope for the future while singing out her heart in a compassionate fashion. It’s another successful win for Imani that we can see the masses gravitating to it more and should be seeing highlighter numbers in views during the weekend and beyond.

Chalie Boy feat Lil’ Ronny MothaF, Fat Pimp & No Shame - Thick Fine Women (Video)

After bursting back on the scene with his hit single “Thick Fine Woman,” Chalie Boy continues to embark forward on his successful journey with the record by dropping the visual to the track courtesy of Halfpint Filmz that’s accompanied by features from Lil’ Ronny MothaF, Fat Pimp & No Shame along with some pretty thick women dancing and twerking in their background scenery. Flooding the atmosphere with his signature harmonious tone, Chalie Boy croons to the heavens and back, speaking about the beautiful, voluptuous women he sees before him. Curves and all, he’ll take a helping of more than legs and thighs with his serving. Along with his suave nature of persuasion, the rest of the features on the record go along with the vibe, telling what’s on their mind when it comes to thick fine women approaching their way. A hit like no other right now; guarantee your summer isn’t doing it right if you don’t have this joint in rotation.

Ace Sinatra feat Krystall Poppin’ & Bo Bundy - Sneaky Link (Texas Remix) (Video)

It’s a known fact that Ace Sinatra’s hit single “Sneaky Line” has been doing numbers in plays since March becoming an infectious record. Still, he decided to turn the notch up in the success by enlisting Krystall Poppin & Bo Bundy to the Texas remix, now seeing a substantial impact in plays again. With the recent release of the visual treatment to the single, Ace is currently seeing 15K & more in views with only a few days under its belt. The track was hot, but it just got hotter; think of all the great things that made the original a smash and see it start in waves of becoming an incredible track. The viewing provides a look into Ace’s charisma, the zesty nature of Krystall Poppin’s pen, and the potency of Bo Bundy’s Spanish addition to the record, which creates this tsunami-like effect to see this cover all of Texas in its sound throughout the summer with now the video seizing all eyes upon its viewing.

Sol Messiah - Roc Steady (feat. Sa-Roc) (Video)

The second single off of this upcoming Sol Messiah project is a dangerous one, this is pure Hip Hop, elite level lyricism, no hooks, just straight bar heavy barrages! Sa-Roc still remains one of the more criminally underrated lyricists in my opinion but literally everytime you hear her speak, it’s compelling. She interweaves so much social commentary into her onslaughts. This is Hip Hop for the students of this game who have no issue studying lyrics & dissecting them to have a much better grasp on their meaning. Sol Messiah as well continues to push himself in terms of production, offering the perfect, almost Boom Bappish feel for Sa-Roc to wax eloquently over.

Chino XL - Lucy (Video)

Hip Hop & comic books have always been a synonymous thing & there are many examples that showcase rapper’s love for the superhero’s & or villains. “Lucy” in this case is of course referring to Lucifer, as you’ll be able to surmise with the dark & vivid imagery throughout this comic book inspired music video. To be honest with you, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a full blown music video like this, I’ve seen rappers toy around with the idea but never fully fleshing it out to this extent & then matched with Chino’s extreme lyricism & storytelling skills, it’s definitely a real treat for Hip Hop heads & comic book buffs alike! This is one that requires your undivided attention!

NASAAN - Stop Playing! (Visualizer)

NASAAN has slowly but surely been simmering under the surface & every now & then, he bursts back onto the scene when an insane performance, both visually & lyrically. NASAAN ain’t concerned with any of the bullwinder a lot of these fake opps be about, he sternly warns that he is not the one to be played with & anyone who dares, is getting stomped the fuck out, period. NASAAN is definitely a talent that MC’s need to look out for, cause he is always coming for the jugular. If his singles keep going at this rate then the album is about to reign down on the game supremely. Proof would be mad proud!

Royce da 5’9” - I Play Forever (feat. Grafh) (Video)

“The Allegory” is one of the most important albums to come out in recent time so I’m thrilled that Royce is still pushing it as hard as he is, blessing us with the visual treatment to one of the standout tracks from the record. Royce & Grafh have at least 4 records together, including this one, so you can already feel the chemistry between these two. Just two swordsman sharpening each other lyrically. Royce on the production too of course, I just really admire that he’s coming back to remind people who may have forgotten that he really been doing this & it’s beautiful to see that, after 2 plus decades in this game, he’s still famished as ever.

DJ Premier - Remy Rap (feat. Rapsody & Remy Ma) (Video)

If I’m not mistaken, either DJ Premier is offering out singles, showcasing the variety of MC’s we got in this game just crushing it or he’s preparing a compilation of it, either way, it’s exciting to see! It’s beautiful to see a legend like him still putting out some of his best production after all these years, let alone bridging the gap between generations, as well as bringing two of the top women in this game together to just feed off each other’s energy. Too many times in this game we call Hip Hop do people, particularly men, get some sort of joy over pinning two women against each other but this is about friendly competition, just two MC’s doing what they do best & reminding people that, the women can rap just as many circles around opponents.

Domo Genesis & Evidence - Trust The Process (Video)

“Aren’t You Glad You’re U?” & are still alive to see these two come back together to deliver a second collaborative effort that blows their 2018 release out the water? I sure am! Domo is one of the most criminally underrated wordsmiths of our time, most may know him for his Odd Future affiliation but over the years, we’ve really witnessed him hold his own, even securing a couple mainstream hits in the process but you know when Evidence is on the boards that Domo is spit poetically over it. Domo is patiently muddling through this loop, not so eager to get to his destination & rather trusting the process, something a lot of people in this game can’t do but you’d be well advised to heed to free game he’s giving out in his performance here.

Phora - Dangerous (Video)

Of course, we always have to have a curveball in here, though still rap, it’s more of an earnest feel whenever we get a new record from Phora. This kid speaks directly from his soul, no matter what he’s speaking on. But on his latest, he decided to stray away from the sounds most Hip Hop fans are used to & instead give us a stripped down record that really helps us hone in on the raw emotions he’s exhibiting throughout this passionate number. Love is such a beautiful thing & it’s beautiful that we’re getting men who aren’t afraid to show this vulnerable, sensitive side of them. Only a real woman can have a man baring his heart & soul like this. It’s just nice to see this man happy, in love & enjoying life to the fullest, nothing but positive vibes just free flowing.
