The Weekly Dip 7/8/22
Thank god it’s Friday; now we got two days to enjoy before getting back to the reviews starting Monday. We hope the day has been good like it’s been for us. Enjoy some great tunes we’ve come across recently, and make sure they're playing during your weekend activities.
The Ichiban Don - Super Nova (Single)
Early in the week, The Ichiban Don had been posting previews of his upcoming single titled “Supernova” with lyrical breakdowns to help promote the anticipation of hearing the full version surface at the end of the week. Once the single touched down on Thursday night, we played the boastful joint where Ichiban Don digs deep in his conscience bag, coming out with the hotness throughout the release. Produced by the always talented Willie B, Ichiban delivers an onslaught of memorable lines in a comical manner but don’t let it fool you. He’s slick like a car salesman and precise like a samurai sword when it comes to the raps that one false move, and you’ll regret being the opposite of the shogun.
Shann - Without Trying (Single)
Ever since I became fascinated with Shann in April by her single “Same Page,” I paid close attention to see if a follow-up track from her would soon surface in the future, and I’m excited to say that yes, one did appear. Towards the end of June, Shann dropped her second single of the year titled “Without Trying.” Its exotic production draws you in immediately, where Shann’s heartfelt vocals flood the atmosphere in telling the tale of losing out on love with someone who’s not willing to let her go. So much precious time is wasted on someone not willing to try anymore; why continue to seek affection from someone who does not see her for the great person she is when the time could be spent on someone who’s going to account for her feelings. It’s a deep ballad and another reason to fall head over heels over this angelic songstress who’s going far with her soulful talent.
Kendra Michelle Marquez - Nicotine (Single)
Late last month, I came across this beautiful sung single by Kendra Michelle Marquez titled “Nicotine.” Its melancholy sound pressed down with production is displayed by the eerie effect of Kendra’s heavenly soul appearing in multiple settings of the record. From the start of the record telling of a woman in love with the rush that fame will bring to her, she’s seen in places with her boyfriend who reeks of nicotine & the exhaust from his car that’s meant to take them through hell & back to seek a lavish lifestyle of riches. It’s a dangerous affair brought to light by the haunting descriptions put on by Kendra, who’s vividly bringing to life this wicked story for you all to see while indulging in the listening experience.
Trumaine Jordan - Vegas (Single)
Last week, we got a submission from artist/producer Trumaine Jordan who blew us away with his single about his lustful nights in Sin City. Gambling with his heart somewhere in “Vegas” has him contemplating future endeavors with you. Love is told to be tainted, but that doesn’t mean it needs to happen to you & him. If you are willing to make this work like he is, I’m sure you’ll see that the future is brighter with him in it. Roll the dice if you must, bet love on all red, and make sure your heart is in it at the end of your journey. Trumaine Jordan doesn’t lose us once in this ballad; the production provides this zest to his step while he croons with a heavy heart in this release. It’s a record that showcases how remarkable his talent is and how far it will go; we’ll be paying real attention to his career from here on out.
Jacob Sinay feat GAWF - Distance (Single)
GAWF shared two singles he was featured on recently and stated they were some of his best collaborations. His first track was with Jacob Sinay, who’ve we seen engineered a vast amount of tracks that have come out of Twenty3 Studio, so to see him on his own record was a breath of fresh air. The track titled “Distance” is beautifully constructed since it sounds like a dance ballad while also being a heartfelt jam. The distance between him & his special someone is killing him, he’s telling you the valid sense of actions that his emotions are dealing with on the record, and he’s hoping you hear them. It sounds like a love letter in a musical format meant to be delivered to the person he wants to see the most. If this is any indication of what we can come to expect from Jacob in the future, then expect to see him appear more on the site.
homeVLONE feat GAWF - Imperfect Timing 2.0 (Single)
The second single GAWF posted that he was featured on was with homeVLONE titled “Imperfect Time 2.0,” which immediately caught my attention right out the gate. The crooning these artists do is essentially a soundscape of alternative with hellish sounds, masked with so many emotions that I’m enjoying its substance behind the production. It’s more than underground & it sits perfectly among some of the great ballads we’ve come across recently. This track became an excellent introduction to homeVLONE’s music that I’m sure will be seeing him on timeline again in no time.
