The Weekly Dip 6/24/22

Continuing to be the hottest season of the year, we’re back with a new week of releases to hopefully cool you down while you find shade or a pool to relax in during the weekend. Make sure to see us in attendance at the Blaatina show tomorrow in San Antonio but in the meantime, enjoy your evening with some great new music.

MVE (Monk Vision Entertainment) - Okay! (Single)

After successfully securing 63K views on their latest visual for their fan-favorite record “Verde,” Monk Vision Entertainment decided to continue their streak of hits with no misses on their newest single titled “Okay!”. The record opens with this exotic production before pressing on with a witty series of raps. It still contributes a lot of the elements that came from their “Static” album yet shedding away into something new in a manner that doesn’t seem rushed but fluid. I always love when they group together for the chorus; this is something you don’t see from many collectives anymore, which sets them differently from the opposition, but who are we kidding? What competition do they have? While enjoying their recent accolades, the group was announced alongside Texas Boyz & Vil to be going on a Texas tour next month, with tickets for sale now. Of course, we’ll be in attendance at the Austin show, and we hope to see others gathered around the stage to hear hits from the Houston collective cause I hear their performances are lively, and we got to see if that’s true.

Supa2Hunnid - Whole Checc (Video)

On to the next one; since his last single “Sum Mo” did the race and took off on the opposition, Supa2Hunnid is back with a new drop titled “Whole Checc” that got him sitting behind the stacks of dead presidents explaining his lifestyle when it comes to women & the grind which all accompany his winner’s circle mentality. At the same time, he is devising his next plan in obtaining the guap to settle him down the years ahead. There’s a reason the word “hunnid” is in his name; he’s got his eye set for domination to stack up the almighty dollar by any means necessary. He’s applying pressure with an array of suaved raps that perfectly fit his penmanship. Along with the audio, the visual direction is done by Shae Films that go him glowing in a blue hue over at Trailer Park Studios, fitting for a release that’s seeing much-deserved attention coming his way currently.

KAMIN feat g47og - Pull Up (Video)

Yesterday evening, I came across KAMIN's latest release featuring g47og titled “Pull Up.” The eerie sensation of the production, which TyDy curated, fits quite ominously with KAMIN’s menacing structure to wield out devilish wordplay. The cinematic background shot by BXR Flims creates an ambiance of darkened rage that fits nicely with the topic of discussion in the record. Locking him behind hades gates fighting Powerpuff girls, KAMIN is raising hell & knocking you out on sight, whether it be his fists or the full power of his treacherous flow. He goes back to back with g47og donning a sharp tongue of lyrical grit that will truly haunt a rapper or two into submission.

GAWF feat Loki Loveless - Armed & Dangerous (Single)

After delivering his melancholy single “Wrong Way,” GAWF follows it up with a rageful record titled “Armed & Dangerous,” featuring Loki Loveless, that’s a bit more thrashing than its predecessor yet filled with just as much emotion. It helps us walk through his journey with heated touch by the fuel-inducing production delivered by J Allan. GAWF gets lost in the record while spinning at uncontrollable speeds while Loki Loveless harnesses a great deal of his energy and mimics it into the release. I knew we would be getting another charismatic joint from GAWF, and I’m hype to see the following stages of releases from the 23Twenty camp, in which I know the month of July with be coming in hot like the steps in hell, so brace yourself.

MAYDAY! - Need To Be (feat. Wax) (Single)

When we speak of music out Miami, Mayday! needs to be brought up more in those convos. These guys have been killing it for years, you may have noticed them as Lil Wayne’s backup band back in his “Rebirth” era. That’s what would eventually land them a home in Strange Music, to which they released many great projects with but, being that Tech is the independent king, these departures from these artists we’ve grown so accustomed to on the label has been beautiful to see, especially when it’s still all familial love at the end of the day. Tech just inspired them to take the indie route as well & it’s beautiful to see! Fresh off the ASIN9NE tour & right back, as the fans requested, this time around with Wax & a couple other friends & also marking Wax & the guys 1st collab before heading out! These guys introspective numbers are always bops. Wrekonize, Bernz & Wax are all grateful to be in the positions they are in, especially with all the blood, sweat & tears it took to get there. Sometimes we doubt whether or not we’re doing enough or if we’re where we supposed to be in life, whatever the case is, the guys are here to let you know that they too struggle with this but you are where you should be, just give it time & be patient with yourself as you make it to where you could be.

Jessie Reyez - FRAUD (Video)

Jessie Reyez has been killing shit for a few years already & she only seems to keep improving. When you see the bloody beauty these visuals are, you’ll know why Slim Shady fucks with her so heavily. On her latest “FRAUD”, Jessie weaves a tale of calling out the charlatans for who they are. They lie & manipulate to get what it is they want but she’s not standing for it. Clearly she’s upset at this person for hurting her & then going on to treat a new girl way better, at least at 1st but she knows this new fling isn’t gonna last & she can’t wait to be the 1st one to laugh about it. She don’t gotta expose him for the fraud he is though, he’s doing that all on his own with his actions. Too bad that, by the time he realizes his mistakes, if ever, then she will have been long gone by then. If she ever comes off as toxic though, it’s cause that person pushed her to it but honesty, what even is toxic about calling a spade a spade?

Alexander Saint - Better (Single)

Heartless the Monster sent me here & it’s an absolute heartstring snipper. As he put it, “one of the most genuinely beautiful songs I’ve ever heard” & I concur, it’s a slow burning ballad for those pining over love lost. It’s funny how in the beginning stages of a relationship, we makes these promises to never hurt that person or take them for granted but sometimes, that’s exactly what we wound up doing & it isn’t always intentional, but sometimes it is, sometimes people can manipulate you to their benefit & once they get their need, their fix, out the back they go & just leave you stunned. It’s the worst when you actually both really love each other but know that it’ll never work out. You both still love each other but you know that from a distance is the only way to protect both parties emotionally. Hopefully the person’s apology is as sincere as Alexander’s performance here, this is as earnest as it gets. Some people may have remorse for doing whatever it is they’ve done to you & some won’t, either way, knowing you have to let go & never look back will never not be painful but records like this make the process a little more alleviating.

Chris56 - Mr. Officer (Video)

It’s beautiful seeing Chris56 back on the scene like he never left cause he didn’t, just been living his life & is now ready to be dropping more of his signature blend of Alternative & Pop sensibilities & his latest blows all of its predecessors away. In what Chris describes as “a song about the unbearing cycle of one’s idiotic behavior(s)”, he’s still with his people, doing more or less the same things he’s always done, boys will boys am I right but as dead set in his ways as he may be, the lyrics insist that he is at least making some efforts to free himself from this mental prison he’s been caged in for so long. It’s scary having to take risks in this life but the worst that can happen is you fail so if anything, Chris is encouraging people to be patient with themselves as they figure out what’s best for them, as they learn to forgive themselves for the mistakes they’ve made when they simply didn’t know any better or let their emotions get the better of them & had them acting out of character, hanging around people that don’t suit you for the better good. Chris is breaking free of those shackles & fighting back & it’s safe to say, he’s championing his way through the chaos.
