The Weekly Dip 6/17/22

Lots of waves being made, right before our very eyes & you best believe we’ve been riding them. As always, we got a diverse panel of talent & sounds making ripple effects throughout this weeks annual dip so come on in, the waters are like spring, very refreshing.

Mélat - The Wave (Single)

Earlier today, I got a sneak peek of Melat’s upcoming single titled “The Wave” via a visualizer she posted; if you’re part of her Fan Club, then you were gifted an early listen, but if not, then you’re missing out. I gravitated to record immediately for obvious reasons, of course, but it didn’t take long for me to listen to it & get a better feeling about the ballad. She speaks on relationships being a wave; it has its ups & downs with motion swaying back & forth, not knowing how it will flow. Will it be a struggle to endure getting out before you are carried off to the shore, or will it be hard to swim further out knowing you don’t know what lies ahead? It sets you on edge to look into your heart and speak your happiness from your soul. The harmonious production curated by Pha The Phenom presses Mélat to give us her whole-hearted self on this record which in tune comes to be a melodic masterpiece. It’s a beautiful track from Mélat that is not out yet on DSPs yet, but you can hear it on her YouTube page & SoundCloud for the time being. We recommend moving forward to text “hey Melly!” to + 1 512-675-1083 to stay personally updated with Mélat on upcoming releases and announcements before they’re officially made. - Frank Campos

Kydd Jones - Good God (Video)

Austin’s own Kydd Jones was recently spotted in Egypt roaming through tombs, 4-wheeling in the sand & standing on camels to enjoy his time outside near the Nile River. While enjoying the rich lands of Cairo, he shot a video for his newest single titled “Good God,” which surrounded him in a beautiful museum-room-like aesthetic that would be fitting for a pharaoh to rest in forever. Still, all slick wordplays from Kydd Jones, who’s living his life to the fullest. His accomplishment and success got him feeling like he’s on top of the world at the moment. His ability to be lyrically gifted is put on display, so prestigious that you think he’s fitted for preservation there at the museum. I give whatever it takes to have that similar feeling, but in due time I’m sure, in the meantime, I can live it through his music.- Frank Campos

Megan May - h8 that i h8 u (Single)

Earlier in the week, I got hipped to songstress Megan May by her debut single “h8 that I h8 u”. The pop-esque record is almost too familiar with the early 2000 sound, yet it’s done with a modern twist where Megan basks in her own soundscape to tell you the tale of her love-hate relationship. She’s back & forth with her emotions; on one side, she doesn’t want anything to do with you anymore, yet she’s hesitant to want to message you & even remember a memory of bonding moments between you. Still, she knows she has to be strong and fight the urges instead of returning to a place where she was lied to & cheated on. You missed your chance with a good woman and she knows a time will come when you're kicking yourself to know you let your dreamgirl walk out of your life. Megan May is bringing back those radio hits vibe to dance your emotions away to in this track, and I can’t wait to see what more she has in store for the future. - Frank Campos

Danyo G - Perky (Video)

Running up the timeline on recent occasions is Danyo G's latest visual release titled “Perky.” The hottest in the streets that I know you've heard of; if not, you need to get up out of the rock your staying under and check out what he’s talking about in his raps. Ass bouncing & weed being broken down are some of the shots you can expect to see in his surrounding while he’s in the cut explaining his lifestyle in an abundance manner. Video is already seeing praise and support from all sections of media, including being posted on Real Toon TV. Expect the rest of the year to be in the hands of Danyo G, who will make a name for himself in big flashing letters across the city’s skyline. - Frank Campos

Liveola - Whole Clip (Video)

Track 9 off Liveola’s Total Control album got the visual treatment earlier this week. It has been making its rounds on every platform in the city, raising much-deserved attention for Big Live to continue his streak of success. If he’s dumping the clip on the opposition, he’s dumping the “Whole Clip.” Liveola sparks a rage in this record, but he does it in a slick manner that symbolizes the way a boss moves. It’s almost like he’s the Pablo Escobar of the tone; he’s fierce in the way that you don’t want to get too close to him, yet he devised such a cunning style that you respect his artistry to want to be in his vicinity. The video direction has him draped up with his signature Duece Dime sweatshirt while he appears with some of the finest vehicles in his presence. Liveola is feasting on luxury, and there ain’t no quitting his appetite for the finer things. - Frank Campos

GIRL PARTS - Not Around (Video)

Taken from one of the more underrated releases, the “CHANGES” EP, which if you haven’t heard, is a concisely experimental EP that really lives up to its title, but here we get the visual treatment for the opening thrasher! A pacy punk tour de force of energy, a massive fusion of styles & sounds, blending Indie Alternative with Trap & even Pop, GIRL PARTS is head over heels for a ghost, she knows this person is probably never coming back around but she’s pleading for their return. It could be the drugs she’s using to better cope with their lies, though part of her seems, if not addicted to the toxic cycle than at the very least accepting of this person’s flaws & willing to have them back around in hopes that this time around will be different as promised, though another part of her knows it’s not likely but c’mon, when have we ever been not guilty of wanting something we know is bad for us? The angst of this record is beautifully exemplified in the simplistic yet rebellious visuals, skateboarding, twerking & just rocking out on this anthemic smash. A beautiful way to celebrate this EP’s most recent 1st birthday by reminding even me, just how timeless this record is!

AwkwardLowlife - Heartless (Video)

It’s been exciting witnessing the return of Awk Low cause if you know, then you know, the music is almost always at its most melancholically dismal when under this moniker. Don’t worry, I know you see the blunt & think this might be another one of his hilarious Lowlife Blunt Challenges, gotta live up to the name you know but as great as it is to see him alive & free, having a ball just doing him & putting a smile on people’s faces whilst doing so, it’s nice to be reminded that not everything is peachy keen. Awkward has never shied away from speaking on his mental health, it’s definitely still a struggle for him, with music really being that outlet for him to let loose all his demons. If you’d been through half of the things he has, you too may have this moments where you feel heartless. By no means is Awkward a heartless person but it just goes to show that even the best of us can get pushed to the point of removing our heart. His is made of glass so it must be handled delicately & just cause he was able to anneal it, doesn’t mean he’s gonna expose it to you, you’re no longer deserving of that privilege.

MRK SX - Zen (feat. Elzhi, Aryee) (Video)

Detroit has so many great artists & little did I know MRK SX has been right under my nose this entire time. He’s a man of many talents, be it MCing, singing, he even produced & engineered a few of former Shady Records artists. Here however, he’s linked with Dayton, Ohio’s own producer extraordinaire Clint Taylor & together they go by NRMLZ GRWTH. In these visuals, shot of course throughout Detroit, as well as Atlanta, touching upon many demographics here I see, MRK is soul searching for his own personal zen, aren’t we all brother, aren’t we all. The MC waxes eloquently about life & all the struggles that make it hard to find peace of mind in this chaotic world of ours. Calling upon another Detroit legend in Elzhi as well, who adds another beautiful verse to his seemingly never ending catalog of them. Elzhi too has had his struggles with mental health, just peep his “Lead Poison” album but on this verse, it seems that lead of his is alleviating more than anything. A beautiful first single off their upcoming July 15th release “GRWTH 2 The Search For Zen”, just in time for my birthday the day after!

Sakoya Wynter - LA BABY (Video)

Where all the Cali babes at? They in Sakoya Wynter’s latest music video, that’s where! Nothing like a subtle anthem to show love to where you come from, you see the Nip Hussle mural, as well as all these other beautiful monuments & spots throughout the beautiful scenery of Cali. Sakoya is simply sticking to her grind & never letting up, no matter how many people are in her ears telling her she should, she’s gonna continue to put on for her city & give back to it’s beautiful residents. She’s also running you through what it’s like stepping to her, you wouldn’t want to, nor dare to cause even the ladies here are packing that heat & would be more than willing to give you that smoke. For a melodic number, she’s also spitting & speaking a lot of truth to power throughout this subtle banger. She’s a cold MC but still hot enough to unthaw, as seen with her drip!

Cl’Che’ - Positive (Video)

Lord knows how hard it is to be positive, especially with all the negativity that’s shoved in our faces on the daily, that’s why it’s important that we prioritize our mental health, practice a little more self care every now & then & that’s exactly what Cl’Che is doing here. Now I gotta be honest, it’s been a minute since I’ve seen this name, can’t recall exactly where but, this here is honestly my 1st introduction to her work & who knew I was sleeping on such an impeccably expressive artist! Sometimes though, you gotta say fuck it to all that positive shit, sometimes it can even be toxic so I don’t blame her for needing to let loose on this number & vent out her frustrations, as much as people would rather not hear it & choose to ignore their own emotions, which is far more unhealthy. A beautiful dedication to her father whom she lost as well & seeing her be able to share that dance with her father is a beautiful way to close out this fervorous number!
