The Weekly Dip 4/29/22

We’re ending the month of April with a bang! From Hip Hop to Reggaeton to Indie Alternative, we got it all, as you know with us cause we like to offer a little diversity when it comes to our selections for our weekly dip! So let’s not waste anyone else’s time any further than we already have with these silly disclaimers & let’s just take a deep dive into these tunes, shall we?

Mike Dimes - Who Is Mike Dimes? (Video)

While performing out on tour, Mike Dimes, accompanied by Donthypeme, decided to deliver another visual treatment off of Mike’s latest magnum opus, which happened to be the self-titled single for the project and one that’s been a defining mark in his success of having people across the music world asking the same question, “Who Is Mike Dimes?”. The footage shows behind the scene looks of Mike preparing for a performance, radio station interviews, meet & greets, plus more. It’s another personable release to see from Mike Dimes, and one we can guarantee will go up in views throughout the weekend. - Frank Campos

Pat Ron - Never Another This Fly (Single)

A new record from Pat Ron titled “Never Another This Fly” dropped on 4/20 with laid-back production courtesy of Por Vida to accompany the exotic sounds, and the potent raps delivered by Pat to give us an exclusive listen to the prestigious wave we can expect to hear for him on his next highly anticipated album. He’s blowing smoke from the marijuana tokes while living with the fact that there will never be another flyer than him. At the same time, he’s expressing more of his hippy essence on the track to establish that no one could ever do better than he can; if you’ve put the hard work he has into this music shit, then you can see why he has that notion. This joint is another hit on Pat Ron’s hand that cements the knowing fact that his next project is about to be a monstrous release, so don’t go saying we didn’t warn; prepare and react when it finally drops. - Frank Campos

Potent Da RockStar & Zyco Path - HONEST (Single)

On their second collaborative effort, Potent & Zyco blow “Facelift” out the water with this subtly daunting banger, this ode to not faking it til you make it. Potent is an underrated MC, probably one of the best you’ve probably never heard of, which if you haven’t heard his 2021 debut “Audio Sage”, highly recommended, the man is one of the crispest lyricists I’ve heard in a long while. It’s the voice that’s delivering these lines that sticks out the most for me, even when he’s claiming he’s the “Puerto Rican beacon”, just the way he delivers that simplistic rhyme, it’s almost sounds like he’s mocking how small their light is compared to his, he is a Street Shaman after all & them, well they just some hobos evicted out their boxes, no offense. But listen, this might be one of the hardest records that has hit the TikTok scene, it just has those vibes to it, proving that he’s someone who can do what these other cats do & do it better at that. Step your bars up. Zyco killed this hook as well but man, it’s the bounce in Potent’s flow, it’s just so in sync with the production, you can’t help but head nod with the stank face & all of that good stuff.

xoDEADHOMIE - Ojo (Video)

The DEADHOMIE is back to remind y’all once more to stop sleeping on him cause he’s well on his way to waking you to death. Further capitalizing off his latest “They Want Me Dead” album, xo blesses us with yet another visual off the project. Simple visuals is all he needs, shot & edited on an iPhone, I just find the grit admirable, working with what you got & honestly, it’s his lyrics that you need to be paying attention to, he doesn’t need all that extra shit to be compelling enough to grab your focus. “Ojo” was one of the standouts for many being that it’s his top track on his Spotify so I’m certain this visual will keep it in that top spot, at least until he blesses us with some more music. Knowing how prolific he is, we’re not too far away from yet another effort from our favorite DEADHOMIE. Street music, real life music never sounded this hauntingly daunting!

AJ Bray - Still Fresh (Video)

After all this time, Bray is “Still Fresh” with the captions, we’re no longer calling them bars or lyrics & that’s simply because, whenever he’s in MC mode, not a single & I mean not a single line is filler, every last line can be used as a caption in some sort of capacity, which is extremely impressive cause I know this man doesn’t write his lyrics. The thing with Bray is that, he always showcases this versatility of his, how can he jump from the success of his “Love Abuse” series back to rapping circles around lesser thans so seamlessly & then just shrug it all off like it’s light work for him cause it is. 1:30 AM in Belgium, Brussels, that alone feels like a Drake homage but I love the scenery he’s showing us here, it’s serene & elegant, just like he is lyrically & musically, personally even & while I would love to pinpoint specific captions in here, there’s just too many so my best advice is just to listen & try to catch every last one as they whiz by you cause he just keeps going, from crooner to rapping machine, what can’t Bray do & more importantly, what will he do next!?

Eric Southers - When It Goes Down (Video)

I have a love hate relationship with not only concise records but when they have a soul sample behind them, oh man, it’s only because it leaves the listener craving more & that’s exactly what Eric has done for us here today. Instagram been really good at promoting artist on my page whom I’ve never heard up until I stumble on the sponsored post in my feed, Southers was the latest to grab my ears. Motivational music to my ears, cause as I always say, it goes up & that’s what Eric is stating here as he sings whilst rapping at a top level with this record. Even when it all goes down, he has full faith that he’s forever on that incline & as steep as it may become along his emotional musical journey, he has enough balance within himself to slide back down this slope like I’m sure some may be anticipating. Beautiful vocals, lyricism & all around messaging & I hope it’s not the last I hear of Eric either, highly doubt it if I’m this impressed by our first interaction.

Reuben Vincent - Butterfly Doors (Video)

Since his signing to Roc Nation, Reuben Vincent has been not only just blessing us with his superb skills as a lyricist but he’s been very consistent with it as well, this is his 4th visuals thus far & no, unlike “Picasso Baby”, this is not a freestyle, it’s an original track, which makes it all the more better as we’re definitely using this to further anticipate his major label debut. On “Butterfly Doors”, Reuben is waxing eloquently over this subtle & soulfully smooth production, the perfect blanket for him to hover above like the lyrical guru he is. The color contrast in these edits are absolutely marvelous & only serve to further add to this classy elegance & hints of nostalgia his music seems to give off. It’s easy listening that forces you to think, well with the elements of jazz within it, play that trumpet, Reuben is just yet another instrument added to this mix.

Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Shannon Sionna - Tonight (Video)

I’m feeling hot hot hot “Tonight” & you can blame Cynthia & Shannon for that cause boy oh boy is this single sweltering & these visuals, probably some of the sexiest you’ll see all year, they really put in that work on this one. Cynthia is still wearing that crown of Moss Congeniality on her head as she further builds her kingdom with this latest single & what a choice it was to grab Shannon for this track, who just adds that much more flare to the mix & it’s especially nice to hear her more lively after coming off the success of her somber “Halfway to 30” single, she’s another artist who is just, so diverse, so eclectic in her musical style. This is the result of two powerful women coming together to let loose, a true floor stopper for the body rockers this bilingual banger is. I expect the radio stations to eat this record up cause it’s a hit they got under their belts with this one, I can’t be the only one throwing it byke to this one!

beabadoobee - See You Soon (Video)

Beabadoobee is honestly one of the sweetest voices I’ve heard in music period, her vocals are just so delicate, like a rose petal falling gracefully to her feet. In anticipation for her upcoming “beatopia” album, which at this point, with the teases thus far, is shaping to be her magnum opus, which is saying a lot cause I’ve really enjoyed all of her output since signing with Dirty Hit & especially that last single off this album, which now with this one, has me even more excited due to the change in sound! This record here is one she claims is her favorite off the record & I can see why cause it’s definitely going on my playlist. I have a deep affinity for these bursts of nostalgia & the black & white alone screams that. There’s nothing like the wind blowing in your face as you embrace your emotions listening to your favorite music & I have a feeling even more so now that this album is gonna be full of nostalgia.

MUNA - Kind Of Girl

The gals in MUNA are living that honky tonk life in the visuals to their latest effort off their upcoming self titled album, one of the albums I’m highly anticipating this year. The girls are Power Pop goodiness & I’m elated that they’ve given us yet another impactful single to add to their illustrious list of them. On “Kind Of Girl”, the ladies embrace every last bit of their being whilst still yearning for growth & change, as any human seeking to continue elevating in life would & should, I mean, who here enjoys being stagnant, I know there’s a few people complacent with it but, for some of us, we’re forever evolving so we don’t have time for that. Taylor James as well behind the lens absolutely killed the direction of these visuals, I mean the scenery in which this is shot, alone is marvelous so to add the earnest sincerity of the gals playing dress up & just freely being themselves adds to the beauty of it all. This upcoming album from them just may be their magnum opus at this rate they’ve been going.
