The Weekly Dip 2/11/22

We hope everybody has had a fantabulous week & if not then fret not cause the weekend is almost here & the weather seems to be improving enough for us to be able to take our weekly dip so to speak. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, you would think our selections for the week would be based around love but they’re just songs we really loved hearing this week, lots of beautiful records on today’s kersplash so shall we?

King Khali feat Shunie - Sister Sister (Single)

We’ve seen many tweets & Instagram posts about the infamous collaboration from King Khali & Shunie titled “Sister Sister” that was supposedly never going to see the light of day. Both artists have talked about how fire the record is and how it would be a hit if it ever drops. They hoped that the people would one day get to listen to it, but since then, it’s only been a myth. Well, it looks like after enough pushing & pressing from fans, King Khali & Shunie decided it was ready for the world to see the legendary joint on streaming services. Leading up to the single's initial release, Khali did his thing by showing previews of the track on his Instagram close friend's list and then knocked out his verse via TikTok that grew more anticipation for the finished product. At last, Thursday at 11 pm CST, the timeline started flooding with fans expressing deep admiration for the track, and it’s easy to see why. Looping the theme song to the 90’s Tia & Tamara show, both these artists ride the beat with ease that got the speakers running hot. Not one outdoes the other; they stack bars together so nicely on this record that I can see why this would be helmed as an instant hit. Wit & wordplays are conquered lyrically by the two wordsmiths in this track that we know will be seeing a bevy of plays throughout the weekend. - Frank Campos

The Alien Babe - Paper Boys (Single)

The first single of 2022 from The Alien Babe surfaced last night titled “Paper Boys.” She had been teasing the single with snippets of the track & photos of her curdled up in bed, reading through magazines of the boys she wants to cut out and paste onto her walls. A bit of spice she adds to the track with her chorus in Spanish, which continues throughout the record giving it a sensational listening vibe. She proceeds to do what she does best and provides a sultry demeanor to her vocals that pulls you right into the single. She tilts & tapes them the way she wants these boys on her four-cornered walls, there her biggest fans to see her in such an intimate & alluring state. Fantasy & enticement is what she brings to the track, and it’s what sets her differently from most. The Alien Babe hasn’t lost her touch one bit, and I’m hoping a visual for the record is in the works since she always displays a vast amount of creativity in her videos & I know this single would do great with her mind spinning for stunning craftsmanship. - Frank Campos

Doeman - El Idolo (Video)

The first single for Doeman in 2021 dropped last night titled “El Idolo,” which instantly followed with a video dropping the next day with VS1 visuals behind the lens to provide a sharp, potent release for Doeman to start his year off right. Produced by the mixtape mechanic Rapid Ric, who sampled the late great Vicente Fernandez for the record where the Barrio God laces up to continue applying the pressure he’s been putting on all last year. He addresses the perpetrating & hate he’s been getting due to his success; it’s still coming, so keeping the hate piling on. Doeman stays ten toes down when it comes to the bullshit, and it isn’t getting in the way of his paper chase. The flow is prestigious when it comes to wordplay, and he’s letting rounds of lyrical ammunition in the single, which, knowing him, I can tell this is only the beginning. Tell your favorite rapper to hide when Doeman comes lurking through your city; it’s a DYNA takeover this year. Just watch and see. - Frank Campos

TB Robby - Energy (Video)

TB Robby been on a massive tear lately & it’s still barely the beginning of the year so we know full well there’s more “Energy” he has to give off. Since starting his WAYUPWEDNESDAY series, Robby has absolutely been waxing eloquently with single after single that only serves to further cement his position in this game, let alone his legacy cause what he’s doing hasn’t been done & certainly cannot be duplicated, I mean they can try but, I don’t think you’re gonna get energy like this anywhere else & many would concur. With visuals shot by Sol Cinematics, TB Robby takes this time to establish his dominance over the lesser than MC’s, his stark flow is not very welcoming of negative energies & you know whenever he speaks that none can even be in the radius of his circumference.

Alex Asher Daniel - Dakini (God’s Eye Mix) feat. Sunspot Jonz of Living Legends, Tajai & Phesto of Souls of Mischief (Video)

Many may not be aware of Alex Asher Daniel’s work, which isn’t only bound to music by the way, the man is also a painter & composer as well. Everything from audio installations to musical collaborations with many artists across the board, legends, even those of the obscure nature to emerging artists, he’s just someone who’s out to create beautiful music with beautiful people. His latest collaboration proves that & not only that, for a Hip Hop head like myself, this collaboration is a dream. Not only did Daniel bring out Butch Swim on the cuts but he also snagged appearances from not one but two legendary groups. Not to mention the visuals are sponsored by the Hiero Imperium so this record just demands your attention as these scholarly gentlemen ensure us that intelligent rap is not gone, it’s always been here & will always be here with people like these individuals still around to center the focal point back on it, even if briefly.

Coast LoCastro - Never Ends (Video)

Who isn’t a fan of all this grimey Hip Hop we’ve been seeing more & more of? There’s just so many cats out here that are killing it in that subgenre but Coast is one of the most prolific cats out here just straight murdering beats. If I could, I would’ve written up about every last single he’s dropped thus far & trust me, there’s a lot of them, this one is just the latest. It’s true when he said it “Never Ends”, it very much seems that way with his output as of late. On this record, he’s dropping so many gems but it’s centered in a visual that really emphasizes that internal struggle he has within himself to even heed his own advice, at least from the angel side of him. Coast is definitely an artist you don’t wanna miss out on cause he drops consistently & it’s always quality. I advise you to go back to the rabbit hole that is his channel & peep all the visuals leading up to this one, you won’t be disappointed.

64 - Bandz Up feat. Aliza1K (Video)

Can we take a second to appreciate the numerology that’s present within the monikers of both these impeccable artists? 64 taps in with Aliza1K to urge the haters to get their “Bandz Up” before they decide to get snappy with them with their entitled asses. I’m certain they both run into it all the time, with people feeling like, just cause you got it, you’re obligated to slide them a piece of what they didn’t even work to attain. It’s not like they’re opposed to helping their people but they’re smart enough to understand that you cannot help people who can’t help themselves & anyway, what have they offered to either of them to make them feel like these two owe them anything? It’s funny how the game works but it’s all in it. 64 comes through with lean laced nonchalance & Aliza comes through like a pit who just broke loose from its chain, a beautiful meshing of styles that very much works.

PROF - Pay Day feat. JonRay (Video)

Since becoming a solo agent, PROF hasn’t slowed down on his quirky eccentricity one bit. His music, as well as his visuals are always a fun experience & his latest only further proves that to be true & not only that but it’s a feeling a lot of us can relate to. Unfortunately, at least for me, next Friday is “Pay Day” for me but you know what, we celebrating with PROF & frequent collaborator JonRay anyway. PROF is honestly one of the most animated MC’s out there & his wittiness is ever so present after they hit a lick of what appears to be just balloons & a car but the chop shop gonna give them a turn on a investment that’ll make them rich as ever. JonRay matches PROF with his own level of intense lyricism & it’s just great seeing people have fun with their craft, not everything gotta be serious all the time. Also, where in the world did PROF get that Bob Barker mic cause I need one!

John Carroll Kirby - P64 By My Side (Video)

I don’t believe we’ve ever covered anything that was strictly instrumental with no words whatsoever but, the thing I love most about instrumental music is, not only all the noises emitting out the various instruments being played but the ambience cause it’s that atmosphere the composer is creating with their soundscapes that does all the talking for them. In the unique visuals, John is infatuated by those he’s looking down on from the hill he’s standing atop of & just has to get the perfect shot & that he does, multiple ones too & once he gets said shots, we get a beautiful outline of his own silhouette, smoking a cigarette as the sun begins to set in. His usage of the flute here is what really stands out musically, those soothing sounds he’s blowing into the instrument just whisk you away as they exit out the other end, kinda makes me wanna play Spirit Tracks again to sharpen up on my skills. Although taken from last years “Serpent” album, we are grateful to have been blessed with an accompanying visual as gorgeous as the record itself & much love to Stones Throw, one of my personal favorite labels, they’re always putting out something worthwhile.

Pusha T - Diet Coke (Video)

Obviously, we weren’t gonna not include the return of Pusha T on today’s dip. It’s clearly the song of the week & not just cause it’s coming from two of the biggest names in this game but because it showcases both artists full on in their elements. We all know the beautiful work these two created on “Daytona” so it’s nice to get them back again with a record that, quite honestly, at least for me, blows those records out the water. When it comes to that pure white talk, nobody speaks it at the level Push does. Who knew glorification could sound so eloquent? It’s also nice to see Ye back behind the boards, as well as on screen, well with everything that’s been going on with him lately. It’s just nice to see his passion for the music is still there & he’s still fully capable of giving listeners that classic Ye production. Let’s just hope there’s more collaborative efforts from these two on Pusha’s next album, which if this our 1st taste of what’s to come, we better get our noses cleared & ready to sniff up all the lines he’s about to offer.

Caroline Polachek - Billions (Video)

Since emerging onto the music scene with her impeccable debut album “PANG”, one of my personal favorite albums, Caroline has been pretty quiet, just simply waiting in the wings for the right time to swoop in with another offering & it’s apparent that the time has finally arrived where we can rejoice in more of her creativity. Her visuals are some of the most conceptual I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing, let alone admiring. On these visuals for her latest offering “Billions”, we find Ms. Polachek emitting the energy of an angel, well with that white outline silhouetting her body as she picks the forbidden fruit like she’s strolling Eden. From scenes of her making the wine to her even bathing in it, I’d say this is an impeccable first offering & I can only imagine what’s to come. Billions of emotions & billions of different angles to capture her beauty in.
