The Weekly Dip 2/18/22
Don’t y’all just love when we do these annual dips? There’s so much music coming out at rapid fire rates but only few stand out amongst the crowd, some get lost in the sauce but whenever we showcase who & what our weeks consist of, let’s just say there’s nothing watered down about any of these beautiful artists taking us into an even deeper dive into each of their artistries.
Dende feat Susan Carol - S E X (Video)
The third track off Dende’s baby-making project, “Pregnancy Pack,” got the visual treatment recently with JustinnLa behind the scenes on the Susan Carol-assisted record “S E X.” The Sexpert Dende has been asking questions over the topic of sex these last few weeks which the rollout for this video comes in remarkable fashion to get Dende crooning about the sultry three-letter word. Susan Carrol darts through the second half of the record with elegance in her vocals while she sports out some lingerie to be dressed for the nighttime activities. The visual is just as alluring as the track is, and it captivates a whole new essence to enjoy on a viewing experience. - Frank Campos
Chico Big Benji & SSGSPLURGE - Right At It (Video)
Chico Big Benji has had an amazing run these last few years, from back to back projects cementing war cries to the street of a hustler’s mentality & ambition to his video being posted on No Jumper. His resume speaks for itself that he’s leading a charge in the city & that five just got bigger with his latest release. Earlier in the week, Chico dropped the visual to his SSG Splurge-featured track “Right At It,” that’s been doing its rounds on IG, where the Retro Moy-directed visual has been getting its fair share of views that should be going up as we head into the weekend. - Frank Campos
ScribeCash - Resume
I’d been following Scribe for a minute, great name by the way, gorgeous abbreviation but I’d been a big fan of her YouTube reactions & just overall energy she exuded. Little did I know she’s actually more than just that. Not only a great MC but she’s got the looks & vocals to match it, as you could tell looking back on her reactions, she’d usually break down in a little melody. Recently she had been teasing her “Resume” challenge on IG where men get see if they’re a worthy contender to date her. Scribe’s standards however are not easily reached, you gotta work hard to gain her attention, let alone time. Her rhymes on here are sensually sinuous, the flow & syllable play, as well as the production & irresistible hook, it’s a perfect song & quite honestly, could be her breakthrough single. The visuals showcase her in her element, being straight up about what it is she’s looking for with every one of these guys attempting to holler. Her in the suit signifies the level of intelligence you need to be at to get her to let her guard down & open up her portcullis for you to enter her kingdom. Her rhymes, particularly in the 2nd verse are delivered with such nonchalant yet mature bravado, it’ll leave even the most confident man weak in his knees.
Jack Harlow - Nail Tech
Jack really has skyrocketed to one of the coldest lyricist we got right now & he just continues that momentum on his 1st single of the new year, fittingly titled “Nail Tech” being that he’s so polished in this game that, he still removes any doubts that he fell off after a year of, what some would assume is not many moves cause musically, his output hasn’t been heavy but fret not, those assumptions are quickly weighed down with cinderblocks & tossed in the ocean, just like the competition thinking they can ride his wave. Jack just has this nonchalant swagger to him, with the bars to match & not many can pull off “cool” as well as he does cause they inherently are not cool, whereas it just comes naturally for Harlow. Not to mention this beat is fucking banana sandwich, what an ear he has too!
Reverie & Louden - All Eyez On Me
If you’ve been following Reverie then you will recognize this fit she’s rocking in her latest visuals. It always popped for me everytime I came across that image & now I finally see what it was for. Whenever Rev is in beast mode, you don’t even have a second to breathe as her verbal onslaught is just firing at you from all cylinders. She just has that voice that may seem sweet, as we heard on last years “sometimes i like to sing <3” album but if you thought she went soft on y’all, you got another thing coming & it’s her fist cause like I said, she just has that voice of someone who’d beat down on a bitch if necessary, especially with all the shit I’m certain people throw at her on the daily simply cause she’s bossed up & not a product of a past certain individuals wanna keep her stuck in, she’s far past that lifestyle.
Kurt Vile - Like Exploding Stones
It’s been a minute since we last heard from the legendary Kurt Vile but fret not cause he’s back with the first taste of his upcoming “watch my moves” album, which I am heavily anxious to hear so imagine how giddy I am about this new single! This new single sounds like a Sunday morning & even the visuals feel that way. Simplistic shots of Vile strumming away at every heartstring of ours with his musicality & heartfelt lyricism, just striking chords within us we never knew existed. The transitions from the day to night sequences are beautiful & of course I just assume it’s light cause I associate roller rinks with being a night time activity, I don’t know why, I just do. But God, Kurt Vile is now the second person who’s given me the sign that I need to learn to skate today & luckily I have an anthem to motivate me through the challenge!
Paul Wall & Termanology - No Tolerance (feat. Nems & Fly Anakin)
I’m not sure whether or not they gentlemen have a collab album coming but I don’t think I’m reaching at all with assuming so, I just haven’t heard or seen anything confirming it’s set in stone, for all I know the album is already recorded. It’s always beautiful seeing some of our toughest MC’s from different walks of life come together to completely annihilate a record lyrically & masterfully, over Statik Selektah too! Paul has always been an impeccable lyricist, though not many may consider him as such but he’s as prolific as they come. Not to mention he’s just good people & exudes that great energy everytime he speaks, let alone rhymes with the eloquence that he articulates himself so well with. Termanology is literally anywhere Statik is, just go back on their catalog together & feel that natural chemistry. It’s also nice to see NEMS continue to deliver that grimy shit, even after his newfound fame, cause why would he soften up after that? It’s also been a minute since we last heard Fly Anakin so I’m glad to see him do his thing amongst great company.
Apollo Black - MYB (feat. Litgalaxy214 & Basik) (S.I. / Heart Break Album Release Show Recap)
I really do try to keep up with the Supreme Innovation & Heart Break Records family, nothing but good people over there but man, are they consistently putting in work. They are as prolific a collective as they come, not only are they always releasing quality music but you can always bet that somehow, somewhere, they’re performing a show. These beautiful people are natural born performers & you can tell by the music they create cause a lot of it is clearly intended for the stage & let me tell you, their live show is a must see. I’m assuming these recap visuals are for Apollo’s latest release “El Sol Casete”, a beautiful magnum opus of an album, his most polished work to date & the album this single is lifted from. It’s always nice to see my brother Apollo in his element & man his growth has been impeccable, as well as his right hand man Lit, these two are rarely seen not together & now with Basik becoming a more prominent figure in their collective, it can certainly only go up from here!
A-Wax - It All For
Our first taste of what A-Wax has to offer with his forthcoming “No Stranger To Danger” album & if you know anything about his come up story, you’ll understand how true a statement that is. Wax is waxing eloquently over these daunting soundscapes permeating his atmosphere more than his demons may be. I love whenever he dives into his melody bag cause that’s when we really get to hear & feel the pain delivered through his vocal work. Not that he isn’t open in his verses but his melodic flow is much more alleviating towards the better angels of our nature. A beautifully haunting first taste of what’s to come from A-Wax, who only continues to put in heavy work at a consistent rate & a quality product is always the result.
RZA, DJ Scratch - Fate of the World
The second offering of the highly anticipated “Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theatre” has arrived & its even more badass than it’s a predecessor. It’s so beautiful seeing RZA still having fun with his artistry & to still be passionate about pushing the envelope even further than he already has, to continue to push boundaries musically & creatively this late in his career. This is his most spiritual track to date, he is so at peace with his intellectual rhyming & higher self & is passing down that wisdom to all who are willing to heed his knowledge. You can always count on learning something whenever teachers like RZA have lessons for you & we should be grateful to still have a Sensei like him around to guide us through the ills of this world.
