The Weekly Dip 2/4/22

We don’t know what everybody else is thinking caused this freeze but if we were to take an educated guess, we’d say it’s cause all the frost bitten tracks we got on today’s annual dip! This may very well be the coldest batch of records we’ve presented thus far, something about the cold weather either brings out the Hip Hop heads in us or makes us want to simply meditate to some heartwarming melodies & boy do we got a mixture of both in today’s dip!

Tay Money feat Saucy Santana - Hello (Video)

Yesterday evening, Tay Money dropped her first single of 2022 with Saucy Santana titled “Hello,” that’s already becoming another bad b**ch anthem on Tay Money’s popping catalog. The Assignment-star is seen looking luxurious as always with explaining the many reasons why she keeps declining on your call because you are just a waste of her time. Please leave your message at the sound of the tone because you’ll never speak to Tay, so keep on wishing and wanting it isn’t going to better your chances. Saucy Santana does a fabulous job of adding to the record’s sauce (no pun intended) and is right beside Tay in bringing together a heap of looks and style to the visual. It’s one of my favorite videos to date from Tay Money since it brings out her fun & comical side in this animated video that will surely see its fair share of views this weekend, including plays on the audio. - Frank Campos

Arizé - Wingspan (Single)

In 2021, we had seen three singles from Arizé surface, with one getting the visual treatment, and we hoped to see an announcement made of where these tracks would end up for him. Since late November, we hadn’t heard or seen anything more from Arize, but that changed when we entered 2022 & at the last days of January, he dropped a new single titled “Wingspan.” The record had Arize bearing down so many emotions that you can hear his words jot down with the heart he left on each word. He explains being boxed in with so much loss and pain that he doesn’t have the wingspan anymore to fly out of this prison. He longs to see better days, and hopefully, he will regain his space to fly once again in the clouds on where he belongs in life. There’s more to the tale, but that’s where you provide your ear to his music to listen in, hearing his soul spill out. It’s a powerful release and one that just got a visual release done today by DavieeDavee, who’s behind the cinematic masterpiece that will surely be the uphill start for the new year with Arize at the forefront. - Frank Campos

Nezi Momodu - N.E.M. (Video)

Doing my daily rounds on social media looking for new content to write up, I came across this newly released visual from Nezi Momodu titled “N.E.Z.” on Twitter. In the video preview, she paid homage to Missy Elliott's eccentric “The Rain” video & did an incredible job. I might add this was enough to give us the introduction we needed to the Dallas rapstress. Throughout the video, she continues to showcase how vital Missy's career was to her by divulging into the many styles of raps as she did on records. It’s like looking in the mirror only with Nezi; she’s ultimately delivering these rhymes in her unique way that Missy would be proud to see someone attempting to duplicate her style and construct something new from it. I applaud Nezi for being such a dynamic artist and showcasing that her artistry is one that people need to recognize. I plan to keep an eye out on Nezi moving forward with hopes to get more great art like this here. I highly recommend our viewership does the same and guarantee you won’t be disappointed. - Frank Campos

Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher & Westside Gunn - John Woo Flick

The long awaited, highly anticipated Shady Records debut by Conway is finally underway, so it’s only right that they celebrate in usual GRISELDA fashion by blessing us with another one of those classic posse cuts, strictly in house. Daringer with that classic gritty sound & these MC’s spitting as reckless as they possibly can. I know a lot of people have been iffy about the whole Shady deal but, neither of the two releases thus far have faltered in any sort of way, these gentlemen haven’t had to sacrifice their authentic sound by any means just because they linked with a major. Even the cover art is that classic GRISELDA cover art, technically them just basically handing the vials over to us fiends that have been begging for that high end dope these dangerous men have been supplying for years. This dose may be their most lethal yet so consume with warning. Shoutout to the legendary director John Woo as well, known for his chaotic action sequences, which clearly can be used as a metaphor for the chaos these three ensue when on a record.

RZA, DJ Scratch - Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater (Video)

First of all, there is nothing that’ll draw me in to a song more than a lengthy title, I just have a personal affinity for that kind of shit. Secondly, tell me it hasn’t been beautiful seeing RZA get back in his bag, showing off his black belt lyrically, alongside the new class of MC’s like Flatbush Zombies. Here though, we get RZA schooling these cats on how martial arts is really executed & with the legendary DJ Scratch behind him, to really drive his teachings home. RZA’s rhyme style has always been so unique to me, it’s as much his abstract flow as it is his very distinct voice. Not to mention he went full Bobby Digital again on this one, which if you aren’t familiar, do your research, probably some of his best work solo. It’s nice to see the Wu still having fun with this shit, you’ll be wishing you’re that little boy witnessing his video game come to life after watching these visuals.

deem spencer - prayed for more (Video)

I’d like to start this off with a thank you to Coach Wave for always putting me on to great talent he’s behind, there’s so many beautiful artists he works with that many may not know but should definitely become familiar with. Taken from last year’s “Deem’s Tape”, deem blessed us with the visual treatment to the final cut off that record. On “prayed for more”, deem finds beauty in the mundanity of life, I know many of us can relate to how grueling the 9 to 5 grind can be so it’s important that we take time to follow our dreams as well. I love his representation of daydreaming in these subtle visuals, he’s so busy living in a fantasy world that he’s not really paying much mind to what’s going on around him while manning his post. Don’t ever lose faith that you deserve more than what life may have to offer at the moment is what I would take away from these visuals, all in all, a very easy listen & calming experience.

Eric Terino feat Jolie Holland - Body Gets Stoned (Video)

It’s true, everybody does get stoned or either drinks, whatever your vice is, these two are here to encourage any in pain to alleviate that pain in any way they can, not encouraging drug use in any way but rather us to take care of ourselves. Our bodies are temples & every now & then, we need a little sedation to prevent our fortresses from crumbling down in atrabilious fashion. The tenderness of this record really does give me strong indica feels, something a lot of us need after a long day of pushing through whatever it is we need to push through. Jolie Holland lends some backing vocals as well & the two rejoice in harmony as they soothe whatever may be troubling them at the moment. The visuals as well are grainy & subtle as the record itself, which allows the listener/viewer to ease their tension & simply allow their worries to whisk away in the wind blowing at their backs.

YG, J. Cole, Moneybagg Yo - Scared Money (Video)

“Scared Money” don’t make money as they say. I think it’s about time I start giving Cole much more respect, I’m not privy on his solo work like that but it’s like, everytime he gets on an unexpected feature or feature period, he just executes it beyond what I could’ve surmised he would in the 1st place. YG is smart to utilize his talents on a record we wouldn’t expect to hear him on but it still very much works. YG just has this hilarious wit about his gangsta that you can’t help but get jiggy with, as much as he is whilst standing atop that broken Brinks truck, bills flying all around him. Cole is on his silent assassin shit, dressed in all black as they break into vaults. His performance here is definitely the standout & Moneybagg just seals the deal, leaving the hostages with nothing more than bags over their heads. Records like this keep Hip Hop in a very exciting space.

Jay Critch, Harry Fraud - Born With It (Video)

When I 1st got a dose of what Critch had to offer, I was very surprised. Didn’t expect someone like Rich the Kid to sign an actual lyricist but that he did & since then, Critch has been silently slaying just about everything we’ve heard from him. I’m curious as to whether or not this concise little dose of what else is to come from him this year is all we’ll hear from these two like, do they got a collaborative album underway cause if so, then that makes this first collab all the more exciting. Critch is simply encouraging everyone to go hard at whatever it is they do & pay no mind to anybody who doesn’t have anything worthwhile to say about what you got going on, they’re just upset that they weren’t born with the proper drive to execute their dreams. Harry Fraud comes through with a subtle banger, acting as the perfect bed for Critch to wax poetic over.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Black Summer (Video)

I’m glad a lot of these bands I personally grew up with are still around, putting out some of their best material this late in their career. It’s been a minute since we last heard from these legends but their return is more than welcomed. On their first release since 2016, the Chili Peppers prove that they still very much got it, offering that classic Peppers sound, well with their first music since John Frusciante rejoined the group. Not to say that their previous album wasn’t great but it was missing his contributions if I do say so myself so it’s beautiful to hear his distinct solos back in full throttle. The visuals as well are simple yet enthralling, as they immediately took me back to their “Californiacation” days. It’s just nice to see these gentleman back to creating that same beautiful music they supplied us with for years, it’s like my childhood all over again hearing this single & if their upcoming album “Unlimited Love” is anything like this, well I’m just a happy camper!
