The Weekly Dip 10/14/22
Can you believe it’s almost been an entire year of the Weekly Dip? Our additions to this playlist just seem to be getting better & better as we go along so don’t expect today’s installment to be any different.
Ashaunté - F**ked Up (Video)
Since becoming infatuated with her ethereal vocals through her record “With You” to then enjoying her femme fatale ballad “Lonely,” where both releases deliver stunning imagery in the visuals, Ashaunté has warmed our souls with her music and continues to do so on her latest release. Her most recent single, “F**ked Up,” dropped back at the end of September. In contrast, her video followed a few days after and has already garnered attention from her existing fans and new listeners, which will undoubtedly see views continue to incline throughout the month. We had seen BTS shots posted by Ashaunté before, so we had an idea of what to expect, but making the viewing so vibrant with the record showcases her artistry being above par that will only continue to make her shine glow brighter. Ashaunté is seen in the middle of a party dealing with the heartbreak blues. Still, she cracks a smile to hide her trauma and feels there is no way to get rid of these emotions. Feeling fucked up, not from the substance in her cup, but with the thought of the pain you put her through, she still parades this look like everything is fine while attempting to enjoy herself, but the idea of someone thinking they got one over on you when all you did was love them is what’s is pressing her down. The record does end on a high note of her learning not to care about the heartache situation and standing tall with a middle finger to love while she lets the night with friends swallow the sadness and gets back to living life with a drink in her hand. - Frank Campos
Dayne feat Behwah - Luv Me?? (Video)
Coming across my timeline earlier in the week was the latest visual from Houston native Dayne titled “Luv Me??”. The single had dropped back at the beginning of September, which looks to be part of an exciting rollout since Dayne is sporting (no pun intended) different looks in his singles for the year so far. In this release, he’s dressed to impress in tennis attire with the signature milk mustache ready to serve. The record opens up to this harmonious sample that sets your soul on fire immediately right out the gate, then transitions so smoothly to this lively groove that shifts nicely with the eccentric velocity of Dayne’s pen game. Of course, the record runs rapid with Dayne’s illustrious vibe expressing hot line after hot line; I’m glad the lyrics are uploaded to the single, so you can see just how suave his wordplay is, especially seeing it expressed in the viewing. The feverous vocals take over the middle of the track by feature Behwah continues to ease the listener in and get them hips shaking if they weren't doing so on the dance floor already. A bit comical and with a lot of creativity; thanks to Jorgey & Dayne, they set the bar to making a record look easy and fun while still being a highlight reason why you should be paying real close attention to his talent. We’re expected to be behind in supporting any upcoming release from Dayne, especially since during our listening experience to this viewing, we saw another single appear before September ended that will be seeing its own time on the site next week. Stay tuned. - Frank Campos
Dess Dior - Nann Hoe (Video)
Earlier in the week, we got hit with an email introducing us to Missouri rapstress Dess Dior, who had just dropped a new video titled “Nann Hoe,” sampling the Trick Daddy hit single with the same name, who was inspired, mainly by Trina’s verse from the record which she actually makes a cameo in this recently released video. The single originally appeared off Dess Dior’s September EP, “RAW,” which, from the brief time we’ve played it to become more familiar with her, I can say off first reaction this project is pure heat. She’s been on a rapid incline with her catalog stacking up, and right now our focus is putting on as much attention to her latest release, which I’m sure will be breaking the net throughout the week. The video is inspired by the looks and sounds of the 90s, where Dess Dior pays homage where it’s due and shows that her hands are on the torch now to become the boss b**ch of this generation. Ain’t miss a beat once; she runs up the record with her heat in her rhymes while dishing out looks complimenting her fine assets. Dess Dior will, sure enough, be in your top ten by the end of the year. If she’s not already, expect her name to be ringing these upcoming months, where her name will go from big to monumental this time next year. - Frank Campos
TB Robby feat Caine$tiff - Cola (Video)
Play him that shit that he can go dumb on; TB Robby is back on the scene, freestyling clean with Caine$tiff in a new visual release titled “Cola.” TB Robby is getting high on his own supply by grabbing fire out of his production vault and using it for himself to ignite away and continue showing you why he’s one of the hottest producers currently in the game. He gets the assist from Caine$tiff, who doesn’t let the foot off the gas when he’s going full speed ahead in the lane of success both these artists are zooming from the competition seeing the haters and doubters in the rearview mirror. Robby lets the vocal go off in auto tone to showcase his versatility to be a threat in any pitch still, but he allow it to be melodic in this release planning his next hit, which ain’t too far gone. Expect to see TB Robby back on your timeline in no time. - Frank Campos
King Iso - IMH (Video)
King Iso is quite literally one of the best artists a lot of people have probably never heard of. He’s been killing it for years but ever since his signing with Indie juggernaut Strange Music, he’s only continued to skyrocket with his important & beautiful music with meaning. He remains the strongest advocate for mental health in this music thing, so many records of his have the power to really help alleviate any strains your mind may be going through. Not only does he produce all his own music but he writes & raps at an extremely elite level while also implementing some deeper meanings within it, as well as crush it with the melodies & that’s a package you don’t get too often. I’m sure we all know how it feels to be stuck in our own heads too often, numbing our pain in ways we know aren’t so healthy. Fret not cause Iso got the medicine to navigate through such darkness.
Angel Cintron - Wonder (Single)
Have you ever kissed someone with your eyes open? I don’t believe I have but the 1st release off Angel’s upcoming EP will definitely prompt you to take the 1st step into, at least getting close enough to make that move on someone you’re crushing over. Angel can’t seem to imagine her life without this person, the thought of her coming home to lie in a bed all her own is enough to count for several sleepless nights, she much rather prefers the cuddles. When you really fuck with somebody like that, it can cloud your mind to the point that, all you see is them & clearly, whoever this person is, they have her under their spell & not even she is sure anything can snap her back to reality, the fantasies frolicking through her mind are as dreamy as this person eyes she so badly wants to stare into as their lips slowly touch. I’m certain this individual knows the impact they’re leaving on her by simply being themselves so it’s no “wonder” Angel can’t seem to focus her attention elsewhere, she can just tell they got it like that & is curious to see if she can live out her imagination. This song alone should let you know that this EP is about to be her most poignant collection yet!
DVSN - What’s Up (feat. Jagged Edge) (Video)
Here we go again, with the whole R&B is dead dilemma & apparently, these guys are the ones responsible for even sparking the conversation in the 1st place with their quote unquote, toxic anthem with “If I Get Caught”, as if there hasn’t always been toxic anthems in the world of R&B & although I don’t condone the behavior, some of the best R&B records are in fact toxic but it’s all about finding a healthy balance between that & earnestness & I believe they will shut down any flak they got from that single with their latest & not just cause it’s a massive collab between old school & new with them Jagged Edge boys, this is like J.E. Heartbreak 2.0. & we’re so here for it. I’m sure we can all relate to having that one ex that we still ponder & pine over time & time again & although we know we shouldn’t, sometimes we budge & wind up checking in on them but I believe an anthem as such will prevent you from making that mistake.
The 1975 - Oh Caroline (Live Performance) (Video)
Seriously, who doesn’t love these guys at this point in their career, there’s literally nobody making Pop music as sophisticated as these gentlemen. I must admit, my crush on Matty Healy has only gotten more crushing with the release of their latest “Being Funny In A Foreign Language”. It’s amazing isn’t it, when a band can make the live performance sound as immaculate as the studio version, these guys are just some of the most truest musicians we’ve ever had the privilege of seeing in our lifetime. This standout from their 5th studio effort is a bloody good anthem centered around all consuming love, something I’m sure at least a handful of us are all too familiar with, where that person just becomes the center of our universe, literally nothing else matters to us other than spending every breathing second with that person, as detrimental as we may know we’re being. A deceivingly dark melodic pop anthem is the perfect description for a track like this, it’s like they’ve taken us all the way back to their self titled debut to bring us some of their most focused work to date.
Bella Poarch - Living Hell (Video)
Bella Poarch leads us into the further that her twisted psyche in her latest visuals & they are just distorted enough to haunt your daydreams. If I’m not mistaken, at least the bathroom she’s in looks eerily similar to the same bathroom where Jack finds the dead, rotting corpse of the wife murdered in the Shining, I could be wrong but I’m getting those vibes, expect, she ain’t as disgusting but she is summoning up spiritual entities with her vocal work so I’d still be wary. It’s essentially a melancholy ballad about torturing someone emotionally the same way they did to her, if she really wanted to, she could so consider yourself lucky if you don’t so happen to stumble upon her in this tub, would hate to get that yellow splatter all over yourself, her stains are hard to get out.
Krizz Kaliko - King of the World (feat. Jarren Benton (Video)
We should all strive to embrace the kings that we are & Krizz Kaliko’s latest anthem will surely help us cut off their heir to the throne for they need not be sitting in our chair, they must bow down before the king & show us the respect we deserve. It’s about time Kali gets that respect, he’s been criminally underrated for over 2 decades & still putting out his best music yet, under his own label, Ear House! Krizz is known for making these anthems that are not only colossal in sound but empower the listener to step into their fullest potential. On top of that, his rhymes & his vocals remain as profound as they’ve ever been & with crazy ass Jarren Benton coming through for a scathing verse, it’s a collaboration that’s been long overdue.
The Bobby Lees - Bellevue (Video)
I swear, Mike Patton’s label Ipecac be putting out some of the most nastiest records you’ll probably ever hear, which makes sense cause ipecac is a vomit inducing substance & this new Bobby Lees will make your head spin so much, you’ll have no choice but to throw it all back up as they eat up this track & regurgitate it. Anybody who’s in dire need of a rock fix should look no further than not only this label but the debut album from this band, titled the same as this track, it’s a tour de force of Punk greatness! You’ll be flinging as much mud as they do in these visuals. These guys have gotten support from some of the biggest legends in Rock N Roll so I’d heed Henry Rollins when he said “dangerous music is good for you”, Henry knows what he’s talking about.
