The Weekly Dip 10/29
In celebration of Halloween, the waters are little bit murkier but don’t worry, that’s just how it appears. As it turns out, the only reason it looks like that is cause we filled the pool blk. Natural Mineral Alkaline Water, dropped some spooky shaped treats in there as well & let me tell you, once you burst open each of these gushers like blood blisters, you’ll be fully prepared for this Halloween themed Weekly Dip, each of these artists caught bodies & if you’re not careful, you might be the next victim they claim, it’s like Camp Crystal Lake!
Izzy93 - Straight Thru
Another new visual from Izzy93 surfaced earlier in the week where he shared the Baker Yung-produced hit “Straight Thru.” It has Retro Moy once again behind the lens to make sure this video release is another successful drop among Izzy’s catalog that’s been running rapidly hot this year. Izzy93 has been the talk of the town since the beginning of the year and hasn’t let the foot off the necks of haters speaking ill on his name. Expect continuous success from Izzy93 for the remainder of the year, and watch out for his reign in 2022.
Supa2hunnid - Supa Glue EP
At the start of October, Try Another Angle artist Supa2hunnid released a 5-track EP titled “Supa Glue,” exclusively produced by 8th Light. The project was laced with multiple sounds to enjoy, from laidback tunes to the upbeat floor stompers that will shake up your trunk. It has received its fair share of praise and support since its drop date, which seems to continue in the weeks. We thought we help introduce those who might not be familiar with Supa2Hunnid by showcasing this promising EP that will surely make you a fan in no time.
King Iso - Cover The Scars
This is what I love so much about Strange Music, they are truly the music to help you navigate through the darkness & one of their top artists here in Iso is always advocating for mental health awareness & it seems that he’s taking us deeper into World War Him with these singles as of late. On “Cover The Scars”, Iso takes the time to express gratitude towards those who have accepted him & all of his scars while also letting them see those scars, one in particular where he had lost his 1st love at the hands of someone else & how it literally drove him insane. I can always appreciate when artists set themselves at a level playing field with the fans cause for people to come up to you & tell you that your music saved their life in many ways, that’s really what this is all about.
Daniel Hex - Good World
Royce da 5’9” son is a damn good artist, no seriously, he is a great lyricist, singer & also producer & that only continues to ring true with his latest subdued number “Good World”. The production is subtly funky with its monotone electronica & the warped effect on his auto tuned laced voice is as infectious as the lyrics are, the content is something I’m sure we can all relate to. It’s about longevity cause with that then we can ensure our legacy & hopefully give our kids the things we never experienced cause we were so busy working tirelessly so they can have those same things. It’s beautiful to see young men with this mindset & I’d say it’s already a “Good World” with people like him in it.
Basik & Adashdre - Starseed
Basik has been slaying for a minute but I don’t think I’ve ever heard him this hungry, I mean, this man is snarling over this J Allan production like a junkyard dog that just busted every link on the chain & is gearing to hop over that tall ass gate, he’s just an absolute bully on this beat & yet the flow is still wavy as fuck! Adashdre comes along for the ride to pop his shit off as well on this braggadocio laced brash number. Basically, when you’re rhyming at a level this great, people tend to get typecast but Basik continues to kill regardless of who appreciates it, he don’t need their validation cause he gets it all from within. They spit a lot of game throughout this record that a lot of dudes that are just taking up space in this game should heed.
Paintitblues - Late Bloomer
Even though Paintitblues don’t show his face as much, on record, he still bares his heart & soul to let you in on what’s really going on. I don’t believe I’ve heard him get so introspective & personal before, he’s laying it all out there with not a thing to hide. Those opening lines really struck a chord within me due to the relatability, it’s often strange how in our quest to not wound up like our fathers that we actually are merely a spitting image of them, no wonder I too hated myself ironically for all those years. Blues then comes to the realization that all that hurt wasn’t really serving him so he vows to just go extra hard at what he does & just the level of awareness & maturity he’s rapping with, speaking to himself with such conviction with this soliloquy. It’s beautiful to hear him be so open about his struggles while also acknowledging the hand he had in those struggles & he knows it can be tough to do but hearing him be so honest let’s me know that, holding yourself accountable is crucial.
AwkwardLowlife - NAWF EAST EMO
Everybody’s favorite AwkwardLowlife is back again with what I believe is his 7th project this year & as always, it just differs so much in sound from it’s predecessors but that same conviction he delivers his heart & soul with remains ever so present. He’s just an emo from the “NAWF EAST” but he also comes from that street life so while he does try his best to acknowledge how much he’s grown past that, I wouldn’t test him cause you know that beast is still inside of him when he’s damn near whispering these threats to the opposition. His rhyming on here is honestly the most personal I’ve heard him get, especially on “EMO”, it’s an upbeat little number but the content is so mature & I believe that’s coming out due to his sobriety, which we are so proud of him for, it really does give you a clearer head. Whether expressing his annoyance with the phony on “RealDreamsFakeLove”, almost succumbing to his suicidal thoughts on “DEMONS”, reading his own eulogy on “FUNERAL”, this is Awk Low at his most gloriously torturous, it’s eerily beautiful & melancholy.
Every Time I Die - Radical
Suffice it to say that, there’s not a lot of great rock music out these days but Buffalo based legends Every Time I Die have returned with what is quite honestly, the rawest rock album you’ll hear all year, right next to Thrice’s of course. This is their 1st record since 2016’s “Low Teens”, which was alright but this album is just pure hardcore, not a single filler on this album, it even opens up extremely brash with “Dark Distance” & it only ventures deeper into the further the more you allow the music to take you into its mindfucking chaos. These guys are legends & they only continue to expand their sound with each release & even the content of these songs is so relevant & relatable.
Snail Mail - Madonna
I absolutely cannot wait for this new Snail Mail album cause these singles not only keep differing from one another but it’s already blowing their debut “Lush” out the water, which is a tall feat cause that album is impeccable. On “Madonna”, we get a groovy little number that is much more subdued than it’s predecessors, it’s actually some great easy listening with a bit of a Trip Hop vibe meshed in with the indie alternative sound. The record here deals with insecurities felt within the relationship, they aren’t really talking at the moment, due to whatever is preventing them from doing so, maybe she doesn’t feel so worthy anymore, as she states how she isn’t too pleased with her body, amongst many other things wrong in the relationship, something is for sure eventually to give.
