Van Buren Records - Relax (Video)
Brockton Massachusetts collective Van Buren Records have been having a successful year so far on spectacular proportions. With some singles & visual releases from members, being part of Bodega x New Balance's marketing campaign & countless media outlets noticing the rising success of the collective, it was only right they continue on their prominent run by dropping a new album titled "Bad For Press." The album has been on a substantial wave of listens where people are finally catching on to the collective's sound and being more familiar with their content. After a triumphant month of being released, they decided to continue capitalizing on the album thriving success by dropping the visual to the fan-favorite record "Relax."
The visual directed by Simon Morrison captures the collective's exuberant nature, from Saint Lyor's eccentric raps & chorus to Lord Felix's strenuous rhymes anchoring the record. Ain't no such thing as peer pressure; do what you want to do even though it takes less effort; Saint Lyor starts off this record with such wisdom; he's a young boy genius who's rocking brainchild, and gravity is consistently winning, which is why he stays down. The zealous tone of the chorus always has me hype especially leading into Saint's verse. If we don't do it, who else gon do it? There's not fathering his style; he's one of a kind, and his braggadocious efforts lead into his suave ways of not knowing how many vixen numbers are in his phone since he lost count, but what you also can't count is him out, he's on a tier overlooking you rappers that need gimmicks to make your shit hot while he gets paid like his looks: handsomely. Back to the vigorous chorus before getting to Luke Bar$ nonchalant demeanor where he whisks away that theirs mo problems that come with getting to mo money. He's street certified to the brim on his hat to the sole under his shoe; you all keep treating him like a role model with the way he sets these words together, and his pen game is so vicious he's making your favorite rappers look stupid while he's running laps around them. He gravitates to the woman who gives brain like a Harvard student and those backing that ass up bouncing back, just like when cash is lost. He bounces back in the same manner that showcases his versatility to captivate his lifestyle and his hustling ways, all in the same verse. After hearing the sensation of the chorus, Jiles is up next and can't wait for the day haters saying that he switched up.
Success isn't for everyone, but they hate on anyone that gets it, it's a shame, but Jiles doesn't give a fuck about your feeling. He's been counted out most of his life, and now that he's found a space to succeed, you want to see him at his worst. He's seen his momma have bad days and knows this life will get better once he's accomplished his grind of making it. No more corner store hustling or late-night grinding to make ends meet, it's eat what you kill, and he's downing a plate every time. Back to the chorus one last time before Lord Felix lays down his venomous lines, setting the rest of the record ablaze after the destruction of his previous mates destroying the Mike Hector beat with ease. He's gone through trials and tribulations his whole life; it's time for him to settle down and count up the loot. He's seen his fair share of good days and bad, and while he's more than the other, he wants to be bossed with his days being highlights with his now garnered success with his team. They put the effort in and the hard work to not see it all work out in the end for them, they put everything now the line when making records like this here, and we show the massive appreciation of it when we listen to their music. I genuinely see the making of a collective who's currently breaking down barriers on some creative shit that will be a problem for the industry since this unstoppable force is not to be fucked with. They will make sure to leave destruction in their path wherever they roam.
There is no wrong that these guys can do, no such thing as bad press when your running rampant like these guys are right now. The reigns are immaculate, and the content they push out is versatile; there's a reason there Massachusetts chaotic rap collective.
