Clutch Hopkins - Blood On The Dance Floor (Album)
Clutch is stopping the floors we stand on, only to leave our blood on it with his latest. He's standing out cause the blood ceases to stain his fit but, mind your business, his flow on here is triumphantly tranquilizing. He's reigning while it's raining, the syllable play right away is clear cut & his message is concise. He has the upper hand in this battle; he's not one to play with those consistently moving those Twitter fingers. He'll gladly rip them off with the pliers of Chaka Demus. His wordplay here is ridiculous, "you trending too deep, pop you off like the n****a with waves (possible shoutout?) I'm the king of the sea", a beautiful extended metaphor. He says so much by saying so little & it all flows together like a ripple effect.
Clutch is on his Syphon Filter; this is some Splinter Cell type shit he's concocted with "Agent Zero." This beat is daunting & just the way he nonchalantly details the fate of his prey. It makes it feel like you're running from something that's surrounding you on all corners, firing from all cylinders. You see him in flickers, you hear him in chilling whispers, but you can't grasp him cause you're not heeding the warnings he's laying out for you. Instead of choosing to interject with your fuck shit, he & Mundaca make it very clear that you need to "Pipe Down," you're talking too loud & too much, such a subtle banger cause although they are so with the shits, there's no need for none of that "rah-rah" shit.
Like many of us, Clutch & King Khali are NOT with the "FOOLISHNESS" a lot of these wannabes love to talk recklessly until it's time to walk reckless. The bars they're sounding off on here, it's like they're making you tap dance as they shoot at your feet. Let's just call a spade a spade already; there's no need for them to get foolish with. Still, they will let you know to tread lightly & I swear, Khali's storytelling is off the chain. It's just his life, his truth & his melodic chants that just meditate over his vocals is a delicate touch. He then teams up with AJ Bray for another one of these love abuse bangers. They just want their love reciprocated before they go seeking that "Attention" from someone else, which you might not like; why not just "Save The World" together?
Clutch is "No Pretend," there's no need for someone as accurate as he is to fake the funk. He ain't gotta lie to kick it; he ain't gotta do anything other than kick these doors down "Ten Fold." He's so uninterested in the games these little boys play; they aren't about their paper, their business, or the shit they talk, so when they speak it, Clutch can easily see that they're bullshitting. Hence, he hits them with the damn, "That's Crazy," just to show how his mind is not with this information being passed onto him; pretty soon, they'll end up the same broke losers they've always been. Some of them are even hiding in disguise as people closest to him; he clearly experienced this firsthand, processed it all, overcame it & now he's letting it be known. He has his eyes on you; if anybody can see the spies lurking, it's Agent Zero.
