Kevin McGee, JMAC The Dragon, Mike Brunch - Game Time (Single)
What a glorious time it is to be a Hip Hop fan! If you’re like me, you’ve been dying for another Hip Hop supergroup. Just a couple MC’s, all from different walks of life, coming together for bar overload & if you know anything about these three juggernauts, if you haven’t been living under a rock & DO have your pulse on who’s keeping the blood pumping through the heart of our city & scene, then I imagine your excitement was as immense as mine was to see these gentlemen randomly link up. It’s not something I was prepared for nor anticipated but trust me, I accepted & welcomed the HomeTeam almost immediately! As a Kevin McGee fanatic myself, it’s not that Kevin don’t got bars but his solo music is more anthemic & introspective but with this side quest, he really showcases just how elite a wordsmith he actually is & oh yeah, his hook game is still infectious, making it yet another anthem!
“Lil Bit” was merely a teaser of what’s to come & while that was just enough to catch my attention, his performance on “Game Time” here completely blew it out the water. That opening scheme alone is too slick & then how he manages to slip in the double entendres & the punches, it’s simply the best rapping I’ve heard from Kevin thus far, all due respect. He really sets the tone for Mike Brunch to come through with his signature heavyweight flow! If you’ve seen this man perform, even before he hits the stage, his presence alone is felt so you best believe when he gets on a record, he’s not demanding that respect, he’s taking it by brute force the way he’s beating down on the so called competition here! He ain’t just breaking ankles, he’s “Strictly Snappin’ Necks”, word to EPMD! He’s been putting in that work for a minute now & I’m glad to say that even though it took me some time, he’s now someone who has my undivided attention moving forward. Man is too much of a behemoth lyrically to ignore!
And last but not least, here comes JMAC The Dragon, to completely torch what’s left of the record, of the court that is, after Kev & Mike done scratched up the floor & broke both backboards. Funny thing is, I don’t even watch sports but if you pay close attention to artists like JMAC, he’s no different than some of the best sportsmen out there in the sense that, like them, he spends a healthy 24/7 tenacity in honing in on his craft cause after all, this rap shit, this Hip Hop shit, it is bloodsport at the end of the day, don’t you ever forget it! JMAC is at his best when he’s simply destroying rappers. He does it with such ease & precision so I already knew when I saw he linked with these two, he was definitely gonna be on his A+ game! Let’s just hope these gentlemen continue to bless us with more, maybe an eventual album or EP at least cause they work so well off one another & honestly, we should thank Kevin for that cause when it comes to the San Antonio music scene & honestly, the genre as a whole, he’s one of the better master of ceremonies!
