YeloHill & Suga Free - SugaHill (EP)
Pimpin’ ain’t dead & it’ll possibly never die. Though it seems the game now has become totally topsy turvy in recent years with women doing most of the pimpin’ but they forgot one thing. Suga Free is still around & still offering that free game with a lot of his recent verses, let alone the flock of newer artists his pimpology has clearly influenced, YeloHill being one of many to carry on the tradition. It’s always beautiful to see the old school & new school bridge that gap but still be able to make something that sounds as fresh & funkily fun & hilarious as this EP is. When the 1st single dropped “Or Na”, I’m sure everyone thought it was the only collab we would get from these two. Never in a million years did I expect an entire EP from them but it makes sense given how seamlessly they played off one another on that single.
This EP not only finds YeloHill at the hilt of his playerism but Suga Free is more outlandish than ever with his lyrics, his entire verses on these records are some of the most ridiculously comical shit you’ll hear all year. It’s a match made in heaven how refreshing it is to hear the West Coast still prevalent as ever. You got those nighttime cruise control vibes on the smooth “Vice City”, which easily could’ve popped up in the video game. Or if you looking for some of those hyphy vibes, then “Parental Advisory” is the record for you. I don’t know who’s idea it was to let these two in the club but that shit is getting shut down immediately upon them stepping foot in it. Then you got interesting numbers like “Craccin’”, which are more subtle in the production but still has enough bass to make that trunk vibrate & the way they attack this record, I don’t think anybody else could’ve done what they did here.
Ending with “Cool And Da Gang”, we can clearly see why Suga has passed the torch down to this young brother. He definitely reminds me of Nipsey in some respects but is obviously his own artist. With features from Hit-Town, IamBillyDee & Jay Worthy, it’s a beautiful start to what will undoubtedly be a massive year for Yelo. We even get blessed with a “Vice City” remix. Overall though, it’s a gem that was so needed at a time like this. The playas can definitely rejoice when throwing this thing on.
