Noah Guy - WHO'S TAKEN TIME ?! (ACT I) (EP)
Noah is most certainly that guy on his latest 4 track EP & you’ll be damned if you haven’t taken the time to absorb his sincerity throughout these records cause it’s ever so delicate the way his vocals & words flow so seamlessly throughout these earnest numbers. Opening things up with the title track, I gotta say, I have such a deep affinity for the usage of voicemails in music, it adds so much more of a personal touch to the artist’s music cause it’s like, they’re truly letting us in on their life. The fact that it’s more so buried in the mix, underneath the soothingly soulful production adds a much more ethereal feel to the record’s ephemeral nature. She’s not willing to take the time to really get to know him like that, perhaps it’s what he’s expecting from the fling & he now feels used. Though he makes it very clear that he doesn’t cry over the women he encounters, it is what it is & he’s more than happy to bounce around from one after the other.
I’m sure we can all relate to someone not leaving well enough alone. It’s a change of pace & style with the following record & Noah is fed up with this girl. She best stop bangin’ his line before she catches one of these strays he’s firing off on this subtle banger. Two genres at the same damn time indeed. He’s just popping his shit on this one, showcasing his versatility as a vocalist throughout this sing songy rap of his. You wouldn’t wanna be caught in the crossfires of his love lost cause one slug is all you’ll need to shatter that glass heart. The vocals continue to impress with the following. It’s “5 MO’ MINUTES” til bed so is you getting in or are you leaving? She called him up so he may as well not catch any shut eye tonight. I thought he told her to stop bangin’ his line but I guess she couldn’t heed that & he’s insistent on entertaining her bullshit. Him & his baggage amirite?
Ending things with the second drop off this project & it’s another soulfully soaring number. On “SMALL TALK CAROLINA”, he showcases more of that elite musicality of his by tapping in with The Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir to add a much needed element to his sincerity. To be or not to be Carolina in this situation. She’s just a small town girl living in a small time world, looking for someone to have some small talk with but he’s not the one to be stuck in the mud dealing with that. The choir on this number just hits all the right chords within your spirit, like, seriously, there’s no reason this needs to sound this good. Overall, this EP is one of the most delicate pieces of music you’ll hear all year & deserves to be in everybody’s listening rotation. You need some heartfelt soul in your life, then look no further, Noah is your guy.
