King Iso - 8 P.M. Med Call (EP)
Just in time for October, King Iso blesses ISOLDIERS & Technicians alike with what he says were some leftovers from his previously released “Get Well Soon”, inarguably one of the more impactful releases of the year & maybe even period, at least for me, as well as many others personally. Tech was actually on live a while back speaking on how there is no way these are just leftovers, “8 P.M. Med Call” is an entirely different beast. Opening up with “R.A.P.”, another one of those trio posse cuts Strange Music has always been experts at crafting. Standing for “Really A Psycho”, this is “Made Me Crazy” on steroids, featuring 3 scathing verses from Iso, Tech & the latest Strange signee, the legendary X-Raided, who’s only been exciting listeners more & more with all the verses he’s been executing as of late with other labelmates!
Be careful what you wish for cause you might just get it & once you get it, you might not know what to do with it, it might not be as peachy keen as you imagined it would be. Iso takes this time to speak on how not “Happy” he is. I mean, he knows he should be enjoying the fruits of his labor but he’s still human at the end of the day so he’s still dealing with a lot of things us folk not on a pedestal go through. He’s never really spoken on the issues with Brainsick so it’s nice to get some closure on that situation. It’s an ode to the pitfalls that can come of fame, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Iso always balances out his records with equal amount important messaging & straight bars & we get both with “NAA”. “FWTT” urges people to forget what people think about you & what you got going on, just do you & cut through all the noise.
I think everybody knows what it feels like to be stuck in your own head, it’s frustrating overthinking so much & what do we do, try to numb that pain with substances & other desires, thinking that’ll make us full but it can be so wavering. “IMH” is another one of those classic Iso records that will cut through like “Hypocrite” did, it’s got the bars, the message & the melodies, very few artists can deliver all 3 as flawlessly as he does. He refuses to rush his progress on “Speedy Recovery”, though he may find himself at times impatient & especially others but he’s gonna continue take his time, regardless of who it makes uncomfortable cause they simply haven’t been able to catch up yet. “Touch The Sky” & “Otherwise” close out this EP with some of the most powerful messages Iso has delivered so far, there’s only so much I can say, it’s just the kind of music you need to sit with & feel.
