Reek & Sage - R&S Side: 001 (EP)
Trust me, the second you hit play on this double dose from the almighty Reek & Sage, you just know you’re about to have a good day, I sure as hell did upon hearing these. Not only does Reek continue to elevate with his swift lyricism but Sage’s production as well & Sage has been putting in hella work this year, I mean, we’re still relatively fresh off his “Serenity” project with Khali but when it’s him & his counterpart Reek, we already know we’re about to be greeting the most high. This is music to simply vibe to but it’s the content that sets it leagues above others you could think of comparing with them, these gentlemen are on their own planet.
On “Mail”, Sage’s production is at its funkiest, it’s grooviest with the help of Kendall & The Loners & of course, Reek floats ever so gracefully over it. His pen is as focused as it’s ever sounded, like it’s the first day of class, he’s on a roll like he’s determined to make the honor roll, steadily pushing, not only that package, which we all know contains the dopest dope you’ve ever smoked but pushing that envelope, no fuck that, he damn near pushing the whole post office at this point. Like I said previously, he’s in his own world & there aren’t many outsider who can infiltrate his circumference, let alone rap circles around him like parentheses. How can one possibly be this nonchalant in their flows yet still be far more elite than a lot of these “rah rah” rappers, hollering & shit all over their records, I’d be more intimidated by the man killing them with kindness.
I’d say their “Budget” is pretty high so they can afford to have a good time & that’s what Reek, Sage, Malcolm Jakob & Eastside Fish do on this record. We get some smooth verses over this poignant production from Sage, which is better than the 1st one like, how Sway!? Eastside Fish stands out amongst all 3 MC’s for me personally, I’ve never heard of him up until this point so I appreciate being put onto a new artist cause he did his thug thizzle on this one. Another thing, I love whenever Malcolm links with Reek cause each time, it’s been a vibe, I’m even fine with those two doing a full project together cause remember when I said those two & Khali plus Sage should form a supergroup? They just create magic everytime they’re on a record & it’s probably cause they’re one in the same & judging from the “001”, this ain’t the only installment we’ll be getting from Reek & Sage & I couldn’t be more elated!
