Toshiyo Ghoul - Devils Dance (Single)
I had to peep the last two singles from Toshiyo Ghoul before jumping into this latest from the Indianapolis-based talent & already he's continuing to impress with "Devils Dance." A somber yet heartfelt ode to his demons, that of whom he continues to channel his inner Patrick Swayze to. His sound is accessible as can be, but his lyricism is what stands out here; each line just tugs at your heartstrings cause it's so relatable. Just from a technical standpoint, I'm blown away at the rhyme schemes off rip; he rhymes "secret" with "keeper," etc., a lot of people like me tend to complain about the use of autotune, but those lines wouldn't have hit the same without it. Hence, not only is it substance-based, it's technical &, more importantly, personal.
If you know me, you know I have a strong affinity for when artists get introspective & let us into their world. Their psyches & that's what Toshiyo is showcasing here; she's clearly a succubus sent her to suck the life out of him. Although he knows she's terrible for him, he keeps wanting to tango with her cause, of course, the devil is going to present itself as a beautiful creature. So to entice you to do as Ghoul is doing here, sure he's caressing on her body, but she doesn't feel the things he feels cause she's a different sort of entity, a ghost as he says, but he's trying his damndest to entice Lucy, much to his disdain.
Hurt people hurt people & that's clearly what he's dealing with here. He thought he was above these games, but her heart was stolen & she clearly never retrieved it back. Unfortunately, she's stolen his in order to revive herself. He's left hunting it back down to revive himself, so it's just this back & forth, cat & mouse-like dance he's twisting & twirling with her. She's just a devil rocking that Prada as he says, so of course, she's going to move incorrectly in his eyes. Still, he'll be damned if he lets her continue to toy with him, especially now that he's gotten his racks up. His heart should be enough for her; his better angels have wept long enough.
