$lim Douja - Withdrawals (EP)
Back with his 2nd EP, $lim Douja is following up last year's "Relapse," staving off of that of which is no good to him has been a challenge as he's currently undergoing some painful but much needed. "Withdrawals." He's still "Self Medicated," though he relies solely on himself to get through the frustration & irritable mundanities of life. Sometimes it feels much easier to ignore the things that are bothering you rather than confront them. The pain just doesn't seem worth it at the time; those highs can feel so alleviating until they're not & I love how he slows the record down to show how the sedation is starting to set in, natural afterglow feels.
With follow-ups come sequels to standout records & that comes with how he's been feeling "Lately." The song is a moody & melancholy reflection of the high he just came down from during his trip. Before pondering this, he avoided the motions, but as always, they found their way back to him. You can't always run from your problems, but it can be hard to open up when you've been a closed book for so long. Hopefully, there's someone by your side to crack open the tome; if not, then we're just left to be "Running Wild. Overindulging in all of our worst behaviors to feel some sort of pleasure, but this isn't always the best coping mechanism & excessive use at times will prove that.
I know that sober life seems so damn impossible, but it really helps you come back to your "Senes," you start to see things more evident than the prior blurs, the forest for the trees if you will; he took the time he needed to gather himself together, after just simply living a little. His experiences & responses to them have all led him to this position & it's not bad by any means; it's a needed position to be in life. He's in pure healing mode on this EP; it's ironic how he found it hard to be open, yet that's all he is on these records. I, for one, have a deep affinity for artists who can be this reflective cause this is the kind of music that'll help others climb out of their ruts, 6 helping hands to prevent you from "Drowning."
