Flexhan - Gr33n Light (Video)
Just in time for summer, we get the go on Flexhan's latest visual to her most recent three-track EP "Flex," & here we get a lyrical flexercise on "Green Light." It's a subtle & witty banger chock full of bars that'll make your eyes poke out your skull; she's beyond comfortable when she's firing off these rounds. She's got the flow, the voice & the syllable play & metaphors are in abundance throughout this record, not a single filler bar insight. No rhyming just for the sake of rhyming; if I had to use one word to describe her approach, it's colorful, but it's not in your face. It's relaxing, so the bars just seep deep into your cerebellum, but before one can even marinate, another one hits you.
But if we're honest, records like this are what the rewind button is for; her lines are so concise but pack so much meaning. "Fish up out the water, best believe I'm about to reel it," see how she's tying the words together in just one bar. Sometimes it takes even the best MC's more than one sentence to tie words in & we even get a funny little jab at Ne-Yo, which I think is hilarious to name-drop him here; she's clearly in love with the craft. Still, though she's showcasing hers here, this isn't any love song, the fuck she looks like to you; she seems like an emcee to me.
She's gone with the wind but rooted like a willow; she's deep-rooted in this shit. All you gotta do is give her the "Green Light," then off she goes; the simplicity in the visuals shows that she doesn't need to be super flashy to catch your attention. She just needs to be in her natural habitat to deliver bars so elegantly crafted; you can tell by her look alone that she's a deep thinker but whip-smart enough not to have to think too hard to conjure up flows & rhymes as seamlessly as she does. The women are rapping circles around us, fellas; we have to step our bars up. Still, I'm not sure it'll do much when you got an MC like Flexhan up to bat.
