Joslyn Daniel - Never Again (Single)
After her beautiful two-part collaboration with Ultraviolet Boy, Joslyn Daniel is back to state a claim & put her foot down, “Never Again” will she let someone take her for granted and have someone treat her like she’s worth less than what they once made her believe she was; at least to them. It has to be a dreadful feeling to invest your all into somebody only for them to turn around & prove that it was all a lie. You were just a pawn on their quest for the next person to manipulate for their own personal gain. Still, of course, as always, when things aren’t going their way anymore, they begin to realize what they lost & come crawling back, but no, she must resist the urge to let them back in, perhaps out of fear of being alone.
Isolation can sometimes be a healthy thing, especially in cases like these, sometimes we get in denial about something traumatic that has just happened. Maybe she sees him with another girl who he’s treating better or at least seems to be; indeed, he’s playing the newbie the same way he was playing her, something tells me that’s only to get her riled up or somewhat jealous that he’s now happy without her. Still, she is not having it; she knows it’s going to fall apart as quickly as their little fling did, but she’s not taking him back. No matter how much it hurts her just to close that chapter of her life, it clearly meant a lot to her, so for it to all go to shit is too much.
This record is like, mixed emotions, the production has this upbeat feel to it, but there’s this melancholic somberness that’s portending over it & as she belts out her wails. It’s evident that this person has a lot to sit with, knowing that he’s broken this person down with his little scam. Now that he has nothing, he resorts to stalking her, making snide remarks to himself about how she’s moved on from him & will never again take him back, let alone settle for yet another person just like him; lessons have been learned. Still, you won’t even get a thank you for pushing her to tap into herself for once, the hell if you were the inspiration for her art, now that you’re out the way, it’s time for her to continue building herself back up, putting up walls that are going to take a whole lot more effort to knockdown.
