Huey V - Persuasion (Single)

If you got Memphis Bleek backing your talents as a lyricist, then you already caught my attention; I hadn’t heard of Huey V until this single “Persuasion” came my way & boy, have I been persuaded. The sound here is soulful, yet it has this rigid feel to it like he’s clearly on edge. His style is a mixture of a great lyricist with a melodic-based artist; it’s a beautiful combo that works to his advantage. He lures you in with the vibes but what he’s saying are things most rappers wouldn’t be willing to say; he’s just that real enough to speak on it.

He’s engaging in worldly activities, drugs & debauchery; it’s probably just a typical night where he comes from or just to him. He’s clearly tried his hand at the love shit, but people aren’t to be trusted, especially when you have something to offer when you got success like him. They are just waiting to grab a piece of that, always coming up to him with an ulterior motive, but his motive here is clear. I highly doubt with the way that he’s carrying himself over this beat that she’ll be able to resist; I doubt it’ll take an inkling of persuasion.

First impressions are everything & he left a good one with this; apparently, this is off his second full-length release, “As Above,” that I’ll definitely be jumping into after this. I really love the game he’s spitting over this ferocious instrumental, that flute & strings are a nice touch to the soundscape & his flow is so sinuous & lines are so witty, “after this kush gets rolled up, you gonna fall in love with this pipe,” that’s a double entendre right there, I see why Memphis signed him & I can’t wait to get into more, keep pushing that pen!
