Phree Bass Sampulz - American Weigh / Kingpen (Video)
IIf you're familiar with Baby Aztro, then it's no question you're well acquainted with his side duo position with producer Mikey Strange aka Phree Bass Sampulz. The duo has been doing damage since 2015's "Lief Psychulz," then moving into the next year with "Xp8" then came the calm before their next storm. Though it didn't remain so calm due to how heavy the reign from the previous two albums mentioned came down on listeners; thus, Armageddon came with last year's "The American Weigh." Just like the cookie crumbles here in America, they continue to capitalize off that record with the dual music video to the title track & "Kingpen."
On the title track, Aztro's lyrically treating the sheeple like the new torture test scene from "A Clockwork Orange," forcing them to see the brutal reality they so seemingly refuse. The visuals only further add to the record's ominous tone, shot in what seems to be underneath an abandoned highway pass. Many of the tremendous boom-bap esque emcees got music videos like this, so their homage is highly commended. The black & white textures make it seem like he isn't even in the physical rapping to you but a paranormal entity.
On "Kingpen," Aztro continues to establish his dominance over the audience; Mikey's production is the perfect set of hot coals for him to stomp through like some sort of brobdingnagian. Though the color comes back on, there's still a grittiness to the scenery that only emphasizes the underground to which he resides, just waiting to be awakened like Cthulu, but I wouldn't poke a sleeping giant if I were you.
