Julian Skiboat - Flowers (Single)
Julian Skiboat is a fascinating indie artist to pop up into the scene more frequently. However, many are familiar with his talents; he fully showed the scene here in the city with last year's "nice to meet you" EP, a gorgeously crafted sequence of Lo-Fi beauty. He keeps it coming with his follow-up to last year's lone single "coffee" with "Flowers." He's playing she loves me, she loves me not with the petals of plenty primroses, leading listeners down the path of which he's been traveling down.
It's natural to grow apart from people we once loved. Still, it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking, nor does the pain in his voice help either, but it's that raw emotion that adds to its potent poignancy. With me personally being in the position that he's in, it's been tough to accept these growing pains within my own relationship. Still, records like this speak directly to me to help me submit rather than continue fighting the inevitable.
Maybe he's just a late bloomer & as a result, she's become a thorn in his side. She's going up & he's staying down, becoming somewhat of a shrinking violet; he doesn't feel like picking those same flowers for her anymore. He needs to find himself, as does she & there's nothing wrong with that. It's just hard accepting, but the upbeat tone midway gives listeners a sense of optimism, ensuring that April showers will soon bring May flowers. Still, we can't allow ourselves to wilt waiting for that.
