Courtney Noir - To Give Up and Start Again (EP)

Courtney has had a great year so far, well with the release of her debut EP “Illusion”, which is a must hear by the way, one of my favorite releases this year, as well as two singles, the latest being the sweltering “Sweat” but she switches things back to that intimacy & poignancy that was felt throughout “Illusion” on these 3 new records you can find exclusively on her SoundCloud. I take it as a teaser, just a little appetizer of what’s to come from her next year but to also caps the year off with a little gift for those who’ve been rocking with her.

We open up with “Manic”, a tearjerker of a record, which finds her letting go of things that are no longer of service to her but used to be so it’s hard to let go of, there’s a sense of panic she feels with having to let it all go & start anew, especially since she’s probably started over so many times before but she has to do what’s necessary & on a deeper level, she really brought out a fear I’ve been holding onto this year, a fear of not being able to see a certain someone ever again but also knowing that it’s honestly for the best that I don’t, records like this make it a bit easier to accept.

Saturday is my favorite day cause it reminds me of that certain someone I may never see again so the fact that she played on that as well with “Sadderday”, lets me know that this overwhelming sadness will continue to linger. Her vocals are just so powerful, as well as her lyricism, which just evokes all these feelings out of me, I’m able to live vicariously through her words & allow them to cleanse my soul of all its fears & her use of the audio message, which I love when artists incorporate that into their music, the words that woman is saying to her resonate with me greatly as well & allow her, as well as me to overcome.

Closing off with “Sidewalking”, Courtney has finally mustered up the courage to simply walk away & she’s feeling empowered after doing so, she doesn’t need a man to get to where she needs & wishes to be in life, she’s done most of it on her own without the aid of a man. It’s where most women’s mindsets are at now cause we’ve fucked around on them on so much so how can we blame them for feeling the need to venture off into their own & see what else, who else may be out there, they deserve better so before the walk out of our lives, we need to try to be better or else, we’ll be as hurt as they were having to leave once they find better.
