$lim - Noodles (EP)

After a long hiatus from music since his ADd+ days but still in the spotlight for his graphic work, $lim Gravy surprised many fans & listeners of his content earlier in the month by dropping a 5-track EP titled “Noodles.” The project showcases that he hasn’t lost his touch one bit as he provides a series of thrashing joints with forceful substance mixed into them to give you a rapturous listening experience from beginning to end.

The project begins with the overstimulated intro track “Scatterbrained,” perfectly describing this long, erratic record. From a peasant start to a hypertensive barrage of lyricism, $lim slowly crosses over a threshold in the middle of the track with a soft tempo anchoring the track. It lands nicely with $lim’s ability to spellbind a series of prodigious raps over the production that fits well with the vibes. The next track, titled “Fuck Shit Up,” takes a page out of the Yeezus handbook that supplies a more caterwaul production style that $lim slides on with ease. His eccentric presence runs freely in the record while wailing amid the track before breaking off the hinges into a radical realm of creativity. We’ve never seen Gravy $lim embark onto these sounds before, which to be hearing it now is a change in pace and one that pushes the boundaries in his craft. “GVO” continues the boom-bap melody that we heard in the second half of “Scatterbrained,” where this joint sounds like a 90’s joint created in a more modern take. It’s something that we hear from someone who’s heavily influenced by ATCQ or The Pharcyde, which is greatly formed in the vocals by $lim. “Wish” might be the only joint we can hear the similarities from his past sound; it’s a breath of fresh air to be welcomed back to his originality while mixing it into his experimental work. Last but not least, we get to the final track titled “Stuck,” which works wonders since it brings some velvety vocals to the record while an upbeat rhythm will keep you grooving. A suave joint makes a lasting finish to the project and displays the vast growth $lim has gone through in life.

I thought I would never have the chance to speak on Gravy $lim’s music on this blog since it’s been years since we’ve heard music from him, but glad to finally do so. I’ve been inspired by him and have learned many great things to help me in my journey. His grind is impeccable, and the works he’s put in is unmatched. I hope to see him continue dishing out new content but in the meantime, be sure to check out his latest tape here while sharing it around on all social media avenues.
