Cooley Cal - Deprogram (EP)

Who knew electronica & Hip Hop could mesh so well? Up & comer Cooley Cal did as he superbly blends both genres for his debut EP “Deprogram.” It finds the MC’s hitting that format button lyrically & ushering in a new sound to cause those circuits in your brain to overpower you. Surely these robots society has created will malfunction once he comes in with lines that’ll snip the wrong wires off the right detonators.

The production is like a push & pull between futuristic soundscapes & modernist feels. The way he so nimbly jumps from bar to bar is impeccable & the sound is enough to pull you in. Yet, your focus never deviates from what he’s saying to the listener, making sure every line counts, regardless of how dense the lyricism throughout the five-track “Outrun” is.

Cooley Cal is one of the more intriguing figures to come onto the scene with this avant-garde opus of an EP he’s so carefully crafted &, most importantly & ironically so, there isn’t a single glitch on this project. It’s like he’s sending all viruses infecting his life to the damn recycle bin & installing a VPN shield to protect him from any unwanted undesirables from hacking into his mainframe.
