Awkward Lowlife - Separation Anxiety (Video)
$inik has had a helluva year with his beautiful mix of emotional vulnerability & overindulge in his vices. Coupled with his capabilities of meshing melodic undertones with punkish overtones on the Pauliiito produced EP "Middle-Class Burnout." Even releasing singles almost immediately after, all of which are worthy of checking out & will hopefully finding their way onto your favorite DSP's soon. Still, this one right here could've been on the EP, or maybe it is a leftover. Regardless of those semantics, $inik & Pauliiito deliver a woozily bleak ode to "Separation Anxiety," something I'm sure most of us have felt from time to time; indeed, I have.
He so badly wants to let go but, he's still holding on, but he's asking himself why? We don't know, only he can surmise that, but the other hand pulling at him won't let go either. However, he seems to want it to cause it's taking over his life, maybe not so accepting of the life he leads. It's contributed significantly to the recklessness because both just can't stand to be away from one another, possibly addicted. They both just always find themselves running back to one another, even if they hate themselves a little more every time.
The visuals here remind me of the "EARL" music video from Sweatshirt though this is an entirely different beast. Got the keg-nog going, the eventual burning of a damn flatscreen of which he took his frustrations the anxiety-inducing record is giving out on. All of this just makes for his most paranoid release yet & one can only hope we get more from these two cause not only is Pauliiito getting more in his bag as a producer. At the same time, $inik just keeps further expanding on that melodically punkish sound that is both modern & reminiscent enough to remind you of your angsty teen years while also trying to heal yourself on this rebelliously melancholy number.
