YONE - Devise (EP)
You mean to tell me all it took was time & some "Lvl Ups" for YONE to deliver this tour de force of reigning lyrical superiority. He is ambidextrously exercising all over the avant-garde undertone of this melancholy masterpiece that manages to do more in just under 20 minutes than most rappity rap rappers can do on their hour-long projects. Just stick to battle rap; not all of y'all are capable of this level he's on & will stay on. He's stomping on the anthill to form his own hill to stand on; it's too steep for you to climb.
You don't expect it at first when you jump into this with the soothingly dark vocals that bleed into the upbeat raciness as YONE's demons chase him through the labyrinth of a melancholy maze. However, he's not so paranoid, as he's fighting them off throughout, easily getting closer to that light that lies at the end of the tunnel that of which he exudes a level of confidence one needs to make it through the harsh realities awaiting for all of us.
He has no remorse & no regret as he acknowledges his own mortality, refusing to go out without a fight on "Big Ki," vowing always to overpower the darker corners of his psyche. Swishing & swooshing his way through detractors & adversaries alike on "Jimmy," stick your tongue out & hit a three to that one, just "Drownin'" them, nothing but net on this solid effort YONE, "Mission" completed!
