Big Q - The O.G. (Album)
Big Q's debut album is a refreshing masterclass in maturity, especially with Maserati Marcus production; he's "The O.G." although he sounds like a young soul, rapping with such conviction & determination. Leaving behind gemstone after gemstone for his child to hopefully heed as they grow older in this complicated game we call life, too real to open up an album the way he just did.
It's "Been A Long Time" since he's seen his love, same here brother, so he vows to cherish the next time they do cause neither can know for sure if it'll be the last time. Even a few minutes these days can feel like forever on his ode to missing someone, so if you've been able to see your significant other every day in these times. Hold them close, maybe "VHS & Chill," enjoy those subtleties of a relationship before it wounds up being what is being expressed on the "Should've Told Her" cuts.
This project is the work of a man who has experienced enough to garner himself the wisdom he expresses throughout this flawless project, dedicated to self-love. It's a learning experience all wrapped into a soulfully tangible magnum opus of a debut, immediately bringing you into a sense of who he is as a man & who he'll continue to be moving forward. Having a child will do that to you from what I've seen, that love is unconditional & the use of spoken word skits throughout coupled with the production's meditativeness ensure those lessons will be felt; it doesn't get any more purer than this.
