The Weekly Dip 6/9/23
The return of the dip is back in full effect; we’ve been asked about it coming back, so ask, and it shall be received. We got new releases that we’re excited to share on the site for your upcoming weekend and a lot more to showcase for next week.
Kai Ca$h - Rather Be (Video)
Before the hazy aftermath of the Canada wildfire covered NY, Kai Cas$h shot a new visual titled “Rather Be.” on a beautiful Brooklyn day, where it has him posted on the stoop in front of a dice game, spitting a range of immaculate bars throughout the release, already solidifying him to be an artist that y’all need to pay close attention to. The video’s creativity is off the charts, from artistry direction to capturing a lyrical essence of Kai Ca$h in top-tier form; it is already creating the narrative for being one the best visual out and an introduction to showcase a god-given talent right before our very eyes. Kai Ca$h is supremely boastful on the record, putting up numbers that mimic Jordan, and I’m sure we still haven’t seen anything yet.
TEARS - Me Dejaste Caer (Video)
One of our personal standout tracks in May got its visual treatment this week; I spoke very highly of Tears single “Me Dejaste Caer” being a real tear-jerker, and now seeing the video concept for the release submerges her words back in the emotional pit where it captures the hurt and passionate essence of the track so vividly. Tears range to be sonically gifted is displayed for the viewers to align with; she pours out her soul in speaking about the experience she’s gone through, the heartbreak, and the loss she’s endured. It’s beautifully sung with a sorrowful conclusion but that’s what I enjoy about Tears; she can still make a horrid tale sound majestic yet give you the harsh truth behind the words. It sparks the attention of those being introduced to the talented vocalist with hopes that many more people will soon take notice.
Bankreaux - Dog Walk (Video)
At the top of the week, Bankreaux released a new visual titled “Dog Walk,” which came with an announcement of an upcoming project titled “Stix N Stones” to be dropping on 6/20. I’m sure this latest video briefly indicates what to expect from the project, especially with Bankreaux unloading his immaculate raps in precision fashion on the viewing that has him applying immense pressure. Going off on the DonBeBumpin production, Bankreaux isn’t letting his foot up on the gas; he’s heading full speed with no stops in his repertoire, ultimately leading up the list of expected drops to start taking notice of now.
Khalil Perry - Derek Jeter (Video)
Catching my attention during my hiatus, I was posted up on Twitter, where I was recently introduced to Khalil Perry by way of his latest visual titled “Derek Jeter.” Curiosity drew me in deeper, being hypnotized by the feverish production and then the illustrious flow possessing all through the track titled after The Captain made it a highlighted surprise to take notice and begin growing a new fanship over. The visual’s creative direction mixed with the prestigious record has it hitting on all cylinders for the track to be put in your daily rotation and an artist to start getting familiar with asap.
Mouse Meets Dawg - SA Talk (Video)
Two years back, the hardest rap couple in the city, Mouse Meets Dawg, freestyled over Rich Greedy’s “Ese Talk” and dubbed their version “SA Talk.” Fast-forward to the present, and they’re releasing the visual for the record exclusively through Hustle Town and over new production to add a more modern touch to it. The flow still holds up, so why bother to change it? It’s still showcasing their lyrical prowess and matching an update to their lifestyle & personal change, including involving their kids in the video, only give it a more wholesome feel for them. They’re leading up the ranks to continue putting on heavy for the 210, and it shows in the hard work they do.
Slim Douja - What You See (Video)
The outro “What You See” off Slim Douja’s “Tha $lim Chronicles” is the latest record to receive its visual treatment. In contrast, the Eem Triplin-produced track was already a standout single from the project, and now with a viewing to capture the personal narrative of the record is an incredible piece to showcase. I felt like the record was giving you the image of Slim on what he allows you to see about him; we hold a lot of emotions because sometimes it can be too hard for someone to bear, and with Slim involving his come up, his grind & sacrifices more to the listeners you can see the cadence of persona start to shift more out of the norm. It’s a definite highlight to show rap is more than music; it’s a way to vent, and I think this record is the epitome of that feeling.
XOE COLÉ - Can’t Be Her (Single)
Introduced to us by Viewz Media Group, we got to get familiar with Xoe Coke by way of her latest single titled “Can’t Be Her.” The ballad is heartfelt, she sings of wanting to be more with a love interest instead of being a temporary fling, but they assure her this isn’t in the cards to be more. She excuses herself from the situation since she will not be thought of just intimacy when she wants more. The chorus is contagious, and Xoe's blissful vocals power up the heart of the track, which will surely make new fans for her within seconds of the release; I can already tell you she has one on this side with us. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this gifted artist.
GAWF - Don’t Go Playing With My Heart (Video)
Continuing to step outside the standard shift, GAWF is perfecting his craft on his latest release titled “Don’t Go Playing With My Heart,” where his harmonious vocals brighten up the viewing and provide you with a whole different experience to venture through. This isn’t GAWF at the beginning stage of his career but a more profound version, away from the vices and carrying more of an emotional load behind his words. He’s creating something spectacular with this direction, and the record itself speaks for itself, confessing at the end of the day to leave his heart be; he’s on a different come-up than most where you wouldn’t recognize the echelon scales he’s reaching in the rap game because you're boxed in with everybody else.
