The Weekly Dip 12/15/23
Coming down to the last few days of 2023, this will be our second to last of the Weekly Dip of the year. Expect us to come back with our weekly series for 2024 and some other surprises we got, but more on that later. For now, we’re focused on ending 2023 on a high note and sharing new music for y’all to enjoy during your Christmas festivities.
Adrilla - 2am In San Antonio (Video)
Remixing Modjo’s hit record “Lady,” Adrilla is seen posted at Market Square downtown at “2am In San Antonio,” dishing out those bravado raps with an uptempo swing to it, already in the cut and plastering his suaveness aura in the mix. Adrilla makes this shit look way too easy, free-flowing with vigorous wordplays & cunning rhythm; you can’t get a bop like this to sound any better. It’s evident that you add Adrilla to that slick shit, and you’re getting something infectious to enjoy over and over again.
Jupiluxe - Mr. Fantastic (Video)
Sometimes, browsing through Twitter for new music will land you something interesting; case in point, this latest release from Houston native Jupiluxe titled “Mr Fantastic,” which I was not expecting for it to sound like that and yet intrigued with my findings. This eccentric release has been in non-stop rotation since catching my attention, from the phonk-style production to the creative direction of the visual. This was our first introduction to Jupiluxe, whose melodic raps snapped up in the cut with an infectious R&B sound added to it, turning this into one of my favorite releases for the month. Best believe Jupiluxe will be on our radar moving forward.
Quico - Spirited Away (Single)
Christmas came a few days early as we got a new single from Quico titled “Spirited Away,” which he describes as a ballad to let his fans hear new music from him, which we appreciate receiving especially unexpectedly. Quico is back in his bag with love and heartache going hand in hand. If you stay with him, he will show you the world, but if you leave him alone, his world will crumble. Please don’t ask him how he’s feeling; you already know the answer, crooning with hurt & emotionally driven thoughts in blissful harmony with a spill of melancholy in the mix; this is the Quico we miss. We can only hope for an unexpected drop like this again in the near future, but for now, we’ll enjoy what we have in this record.
Brionne - CGAM (Video)
Slow-eerie production starts, with its build-up adding drums, and you got yourself something tough for Brionne to hop on over and spit raps in oblivion over. “CGAM” shows Brionne in multiple sceneries anchoring her prestigious flow in promotion fashion, showcasing why she’s one of the fiercest lyricists in the rap game. Speaking on the subject of people taking hate in her ear and people being two-faced, Brionne doesn’t get to worrying about the chatter since it doesn’t affect her bankroll. She’s boastful with the fact that she’s doing better than y'all; from her go-gets attitude to how flawless she’s looking, you wish you could do it like her. There’s a reason why Brionne is one of our favorite emcees to talk about because she stays ahead of the game with an inferior performance always. The single is slated to be on her “Heartbreak” EP dropping on 12/28 which you can expect a review on it from us.
Devin Cheff - Belgium Beginnings (Single)
When we first approached 8R08 music last year, he helped us get introduced to ThankQ & Devin Cheff due to them being featured on his “Bretman Rock Freestyle” single, where I highlighted Devin Cheff as an artist I need to get familiar with more. Fast-forward to now, and Devin Cheff is still on my radar as being one of the sharpest pens in hip-hop. Dude is a madman with the raps, and he proves that again and again with his singles, but his latest one got to be my favorite of the drops. “Belgium Beginnings” is my top record of the month; if you don’t like that opinion, tell someone who gives a fuck then because Devin Cheff came through like a barrage over this harmonious production, where the rigorous raps are rugged in the cut. There is never a dull moment when he gets to spitting, and he showcases it here by being notorious for the prestigious rhyme schemes. We advise you to get familiar quickly with his sound because his time is coming, and best believe we’ll be there to celebrate it when it happens.
LaRon Bryson feat Eastside Fish - Cece (Video)
Whether it be the high intensity of his raps or the kick-back aroma of his pen, LaRon Bryson can do it all. In his latest visual, featuring Eastside Fish titled “Cece,” you got both emcees in the cut serenading raps to the woman, showing you just how fly they are and what they can do to change your world if you add them into it. Suave with pimping in their poetry, they formed an intimate joint that comes together nicely like a candle-lit dinner alongside the prominent visual direction put on by Valmir & Neezy. Another release for LaRon Bryson to get you anticipated for his next release, 2024, is about to be LaRon Bryson SZN.
Nilaray - Choosy (Single)
In her third and possibly last single for 2023, Nilaray released “Choosy,” where she confesses the love she has for you is addictive like a drug. It’s almost certain that she is gaining feelings for you, but it doesn’t feel like she’s getting the same connection from your end. Don’t be picky with her and someone else; she’s not the type of woman to fall into second place to anyone, so why start now? Nilaray expresses deep passion in her ballads, and this record isn’t any different; her angelic tone and rhythm building in this release are some of the best we’ve heard from an R&B songstress. We know for 2024, we can expect to hear much more of it and, hopefully, a project to enjoy from her serenading vocals.
