The Weekly Dip 5/20/22

Back with another Weekly Dips we know you all love so much & with all these heatwaves going on, we figured we’d gradually let the temperatures rise with our selections today so if you’re near any water, you better get to dipping cause our choices today are some of our most sweltering yet!

Stasseny - Boujie & Fine (Single)

After weeks of posting behind-the-scenes pics of her upcoming single “Boujie & Fine,” Stasseny blessed us with the catchy audio that's been having hips shake since the beginning of the month. Fast forwards a week or two later & she would have the visual treatment to the single surfacing on our timeline that has her pampered with luxury items while basking in the gold, gems & illustrious fashion gear with her girls in the mix. Thick thighs with a pretty face accommodate your eyes when you take a look her way but don’t touch since she isn’t looking for no broke boy. Stasseny didn't come to play as she’s cycling through this hit with pressure right out the gate that ain’t letting off the gas. She’s fierce with the bars and brings a whole set of pretty & prowess to the single that we hope can get a follow-up in the near future.

Naalah - Pretty

Raise the temp in the bedroom before throwing this one on. It doesn’t get more fervorous than this. It’s pure intimacy. You only express this level of passion towards someone you’re deeply in love with, makes these sensual acts feel more like a spiritual connection, an out of body experience if you will. The mere thought of this person’s touch awakens something within her, something that’ll turn these fantasies running freely through her mind into realities. Every time a lyric leaves her mouth, it’s like she’s blowing a kiss, the way her vocals softly hover above the instrumentation, landing on the beat like rose petals on silk sheets, ever so delicately. It’s gotta be more than just a compliment, don’t just tell her she’s “Pretty”, she already knows that, she wants you to say it like you mean it, whisper it into her ear like sweet nothings, maybe throw a little lobe nibble in their just to hear her giggle, real coyly. Whether or not the flirtatious foreplay leads to anything, doesn’t really matter, just two souls enjoying one another’s company, that’s more than enough. Though I gotta say, the sexual tension throughout this record is breathtakingly airy, poetry in motion.

Yung Lou - Chosen (feat. Makaila Espinosa)

Yung Lou is calling on the most high to help him throughout his healing journey. Baring all his insecurities, he’s never sounded more vulnerably polished. Even though he knows God has “Chosen” him to be as blessed as he is to be, not only moving up that incline but doing so in his name, his inner demons are trying to slope him back down, laughing as the come up becomes more & more steep the further he tries to climb. Even though he’s devout, he still has his doubts, he’s only human after all, these mental health struggles can be so taxing at times but still, he refrains from questioning that’s it’s all part of his divine plan. He’s grown impatient to see it all come to fruition, sure he’s had plenty of blessings throughout his time here thus far but the struggle remains. He can’t seem to fathom why he feels such remorse for his past sins he’s since grown past, it must be survivor’s guilt, like he doesn’t deserve all these beautiful ripe fruits of his labor. It isn’t until he’s reminded that the simple act of him telling someone to pray, to leave it in the hands of God, fore his palms are more than capable, has actually helped this person get on the right path, that he realizes how bright of a leading light he is, in this dark world we live in. We need people like him, who despite their pain, spread love. Introspective records like this are always welcomed, especially when they’re wrapped together beautifully in terms of musically, this is definitely one of them ones.

Stu Bangas & Dres - Walk About It (feat. AG of DITC)

As us Hip Hop fanatics impatiently await “Sheep Stu”, the amalgamated collaboration between one of the culture’s most underrated producers in Stu & Dres of the legendary Black Sheep, the dynamic duo has blessed us with yet another serving out of their witch’s cauldron with “Walk About It” & this time, they snagged a legendary verse from AG of the Diggin’ in the Crates crew! It’s beautiful to see these legends still sharp as ever, letting listeners know that the architects of the culture are still alive & well, famished as ever. Dres waxes his wisdom ever so eloquently, coupled with his undeniable bounce to his flow that rides so beautifully over this subtle Boom Bap, taken us back to when it was just a dope beat & dope rhymes & that’s all that mattered. AG comes through to remind listeners that he hasn’t missed a single step, just cause he don’t come out for just anyone, only when he has something to say. He even threw a shout to the legendary Kool Keith, another lyricist from their era whom deserves that respect for still maintaining longevity after all these years.

Reverie & Louden - No Chaser

Reverie & Louden, a criminally underrated Producer/MC duo, for years, they’ve been giving us some great fucking records but this might just be their biggest onslaught yet! Louden went colossus with this production, real atrabilious, like a castle crumbling right out of the clouds. If you’ve been following Rev, then you’ve seen the hilariously creative promo for this upcoming album of theirs, as well as the beastly cover art, coupled with this first taste, it’s safe to say shit is unsafe for anyone in the path of this lava she’s spewing & this production by Louden is like the volcanic eruption from the bottom of the ocean. Reverie’s growth from the streets to where she’s at now is impeccable but she still got that gangsta in her & if you dare test it, let’s just say you’ll be cleaning glass & liquor out your hair. There always has to be that one bitch to play with the one you one you shouldn’t.

Trizz & MIKE SUMMERS - KEEP IT A BUCK

It’s nice to see Mike Summers, or as we know him, Seven, flourish on his own, he’s such a criminally underrated producer & it’s about time he gets the respect he deserves, he’s been putting in work for years, creating some of the most unique production I’ve personally ever heard, he’s all over the place with his sound, can literally adapt to any artist. Now he’s back after his WINTER WOLVES album with XV to get ready for his upcoming full length with Trizz, another criminally underrated artist in this game. This whole record is just that smooth, West Coast shit, with Trizz simply standing his ground, daring the opps to dare step to him. He really got it out the mud, kept it real & now he’s seeing it all pay off so why would he try to go back to old tactics or let anyone dare pull him back down to that, he was fortunate enough to make it out so he’s not gonna waste this opportunity. He advises them to do the same, don’t lose your life cause you’re curious, it’s a little too real out here for some, make your decisions carefully. A marvelous 1st taste of what’s to come of this album!

Joey Cool - Lansky (feat. Tay Diggs) (Video)

Joey seems to have the same obsession with these old school mafioso films as I do, a lot of his visuals take on this style, but here he’s taking on the role of Meyer Lansky on this dizzyingly masterclass of lyricism. This might be his best single yet, it’s just such a unique sound, unlike anyone else’s, it’s swankily strange! Joey’s storytelling abilities are ever so present on this record, the way he’s able to actually carve out this story through these insane rhyme schemes of his, even without the visuals, it’s like a complex screenplay. Tay Diggs comes through to add even more Mind bending flows to this spiraling record. Nothing has been officially announced yet about an upcoming Joey Cool album but it’s safe to say it’s well on it’s way. In the meantime, this record shall remain on loop, that hook is to addicting, it’s worth the motion sickness a record like this would give to someone without the mental capacity for it. It’s about time people wake up to the immense amount of talent Strange music has on their roster.

NEMS - NATHAN’S (Video)

It’s been beautiful seeing how much of, basically a household name NEMS has become & I think he just blew his signature phrase “Bing Bong” out the water with one of his hardest, most meanest records yet with the Drumma Boy produced “NATHAN’S”. NEMS stands his ground ever so menacingly, drawing a line in the sand & daring these pussy ass opps to cross it & see if they won’t do what you wouldn’t do. All that threatening, hollering & rah rah talk & still too scared to do anything about your situations other than that. NEMS is full gorilla on this record, peeling back banana clip after banana clip, it’s a shame if he catches you slipping. He’s such a beast when it comes to bullying these beats with his bar barrages, backed by his entire block in these boisterous visuals as he blaps the blicky to Bing Bong upside these boys heads indeed, like boom bop blam bloaw!

NICK ENAIGBE - 2WO WORDS (Video)

Nick is wasting no time after blessing us not too long ago with his Andrew Kelly collaboration “MILLIGRAMS”, already gearing up for the follow up, he’s back with 2WO, count them, “2WO WORDS” & judging from the artwork alone, we can surmise what those words are. Nick isn’t really too concerned with what everyone else is doing and or may want for him, I’m sure he’s probably had people ask him to switch up his sound & style to maybe be more palatable but he don’t give a fuck about that, he’s all about the craft, the bloodsport this genre is, those opening bars make it clear, point blank. His syllable game is so on point, “I’m breaking barriers so I could bury ya so don’t come near me, I don’t want bacteria, I’m monetary”, just how seamlessly his words all flow together, so meticulously thought out. Ty Produces instrumentation is dizzying enough for Nick to make these dogs who dare pit themselves against this terrier to come eat back up their word vomit. Unlike them, he actually has something say, it’s up to you to heed those two simple words. The Diggers marvelously capture the daunting nature of Nick’s onslaught in these warped visuals.
