The Weekly Dip 9/10
Hope everybody’s week has been going swell, things have been a little hectic on our end but of course, we still take the time to relax & take our Weekly Dip so hopefully you haven’t forgotten to wind down yourself & will allow yourself to after diving into each of these records. We like to give people a wide array of different artists, different sounds that just might catch your ear like they caught ours so just dip your toe into some of these, the waters just might be fine
Mel Hines - 06 (Music Video)
Musically enthralling just isn’t enough apparently according to Mel Hines, these visuals are equally as intriguing, therefore perfectly in sync with one another, the man does it all. Taken from his most recent release “Oxygen”, the track “six” or “06” will leave you breathless with its subtleties in composition, the way Mel softly lays his vocals over his euphoria inducing production is so heavenly, even when he’s subtly flexing, it’s done so in an eloquent manner. Although the record is cut in half for the visuals, it still has the same effect on the consumer by simply emitting a sense of nostalgia as the music & visuals are forever fleeting.
Mondo Slade - Julio (Music Video)
I’ve never heard any sort of slang synonymous with hitting up someone’s line for whatever reason, shows how big the rock I’ve been living under is but luckily, Mondo Slade came through to teach your boy a little something. Taken from his mind warping masterclass in lyricism “Master Speech”, the single “Julio” is an eerily subtle head bopper, the beat is simplistic yet ominous & his flow over it is masterful as can be, he’s clearly a busy man if his Julio is blowing up as much as it is here, shows how he’s always on call to make the next bag or move his next shipment of elite level bars, definitely an MC that’ll grab the Hip Hop heads attention right away with this, as well as everything else on that record.
Remi Wolf - Guerrilla/Sexy Villian
To add onto last month’s double pack, Remi Wolf is back with 2 more of those feel good vibes we’re so accustomed to hearing from her, her records always have this cool breeze to it, real LA vibes, which how would I know being that I’ve never been but that’s how powerful her music is, that it can place you right into that setting. On “Guerrilla”, Remi is the elephant in the room where the party is being held, the undivided attention is all hers & she’s basking in it like the badass she clearly is or as she puts it, the “Sexy Villain”, both got those big summertime feels to them so be sure to add them to those playlists & ride out to them, those solos though am I right? Here you’ll find the Apple Music pre-order link to her upcoming album “Juno'“ & upon download, will get the 5 singles released thus far.
MUNA, Phoebe Bridgers - Silk Chiffon (Music Video)
Have you seen a “Silk Chiffon” dress before, if so then you know how soft this record is, it’s like the listener is just blanketed by the fuzzy feeling this record gives. I never knew that I needed a MUNA & Phoebe Bridgers collaboration but I’m here for it, it was very unexpected but it’s always huge for two acts to come together for something so sweet. The Power Pop is so palpable, just like we’re used to hearing from the girls but the addition of Phoebe just gives it that extra layer of sentimentality, making for one of the most earnest records to come out of Pop music this year & if you ask me, MUNA is one of the best acts out of that genre & if this single is any indication of an upcoming album then we’re in for another treat from the gals!
We Are Scientists - You’ve Lost Your Shit
That Post-Punk revival has obviously been making a comeback but it’s Indie acts like We Are Scientists who remind the kiddies that they’ve been dominating this style for years & they only further establish that with their latest crunching bop of a single “You’ve Lost Your Shit”, an ode to doing just that, which who of us haven’t lost our shit from time to time? You mean to tell me you’ve never had your nervous system stressed to it’s peak, therefore couldn’t take anymore input so you lashed out, maybe at someone you cared for & they had to watch you spiral, not being able to help someone who won’t help themself, that’s kinda what the record exemplifies fully with its beautifully executed angst, kids are gonna act out to this one so beware parents.
Art School Girlfriend - Is It Light Where You Are (Album)
The debut album from Art School Girlfriend has arrived & it’s quite the serene out of body experience, you’ll feel your spirit floating right up out of you when you start this album, her voice lulls the listener into a fall sense of reality with “In The Middle” bleeding into the title track, both tracks instantly grabbing the listener with their overpowering emotion. Be it the yearning earnestness of “Softer Side”, the subtly fleeting ambience of “Give” or her soaring vocals on “Low Light” as she leads us to the lambent, this is a record packed with some of the saddest soundscapes you’ll hear this year, for sure to yank on those heartstrings with its raw emotion being scattered to the four winds on this ethereal experience.
xBValentine & Paul Wall - Low Key
xBValentine is a recurring guest on the Wavez cause she consistently makes these subtle bangers suited specifically for the nighttime, I feel she really captures that feel in her music & she also knows how to bring other artists into her world, enlisting Paul Wall to let them know of all the work they’ve put in but they aren’t whining that they aren’t getting the love they deserve, that love has been coming since their work continues to be amplified, it’s almost amusing to them & honestly, only gives them the fuel to further prove that they really do this to the fullest extent, they may be “Low Key” about it but that’s cause xB don’t gotta explain her moves to anybody, she just does them & at such a consistent rate at that.
Fickle Friends - Love You to Death
The UK is known for being musically inclined so it’s no surprise that most of the bands I come across usually originate from those areas, they just really know how to create those smashers & the latest from Fickle Friends, great band name by the way being that I adore alliteration, further proves that. It has this punky angst to it but it’s a legit floor stopper, the groove of this record is so infectious, you can’t help but enter a transient state once that ear worm gets you, kinda like how we lose sight of ourselves when we’re madly in love enough to love someone to death, it could be a bit much for the other person but c’mon, where else you gonna find someone this passionate about you?
