Wynne - Some Like It Hot (EP)
Portland native and hip-hop greatest gift, Wynne, released her heavily anticipated EP, “Some Like It Hot,” back in the middle of July where she’s been receiving praise due to her cunning lyricism & sophistication to work up wordplays with a sense of allure & appeal throughout the six-track project that has her recognized as the rookie of the year including many more positive accolades furthering up her prestigious stature. We’ve received two-track EPs from her before, along with additional singles and visuals that have increasingly impacted her hip-hop stardom to receive astronomical attention after each release. Still, this latest drop has seen much more success for her before and after release even having her cover art being a staple of her style, only solidifying her motion forward to being one of the most watched talents in hip-hop lately.
Wynne opens up her project to the sussurate toned record “In The Mood,” where she deems herself top two in the game, but she’s certainly not two. In the mix like a bowl of Chex’s, Wynne is already sizing up the beat to show a bit of range like Steph at the three, and funny enough she drops a line featuring his name right at the key. Boastfulness and flirtatious are already seeing her flow, which we knew would make light directly at the start, and she goes to further lengths, giving y’all the best in the league type of raps already stunting in prominent fashion for the intro. “Hot Friends” would be the first track we came across to hear and see before the project’s release. Still, it comes floating across the tracklist at the right spot, fitting in nicely with the vibe, especially since the remaining records keep up the tempo from start to finish before transitioning to a smooth halt for the upcoming record. “What Would Comb Do” is a standout record to me for so many reasons; it sounds like something special, and the heavenly ray of production sitting so relaxed, waiting for Wynne to lay down some glamorous bars over it already can make an angel weep. This shit sounds like listening to Hov’s “The Black Album” for the first time and feeling like each line after line is constructed from a higher power. Wynne had dropped the video for the record after the project’s release, where she’s seen in attire mimicking Jessica Rabbit in a swing bar, confessing her heart out to those in attendance. I can hear bar for bar being another inch closer to greatness when this track appears in rotation; I can’t fathom the feeling it brings out of someone like me who enjoys this music shit more than anyone knows. It almost feels like she’s rapping to the soul on this one. Fan-favorite record and a worthy nomination for song of the year, “Jaw Morant” appears in motion next, where the track has done numbers in both plays and views. It was the start of her stepping stone to begin breaking personal records for her releases and creating more notoriety for her charismatic artistry to start capturing the attention of more listeners and viewers. The last two remaining tracks are the only ones with features; the first one up features another Portland native by the name of LiafromtheP, who heads to the forefronts with Wynne, where both Oregon emcees show off that they never produce a “Bad Side,” especially in photos but test their rapping capabilities and they might show their titular title’s name. Pledging plenty of notable lines, Wynne doesn’t let the pressure off one bit throughout the record; every ounce of sensuality and cunning comes through sharp like her pen, cutting up any hope that competition will ever be an issue for her in the future. Along her razor edge, Lia is slicing through with conviction in her tone, intensifying the record to be the vicious centerpiece of the project’s reign.
The last track felt like a full circle moment for us since it was Chris Patrick who originally introduced us to Wynne, so seeing him featured along with her on the outro track “Wife” was a great sendoff to conclude the project. The seductive tone hitting right out the gate from Wynne is the building block for the track as she gets to telling everything on her nasty mind. From the reminiscence of those unforgettable nights to being the critical element to your deepest desires, Wynne doesn’t hold back the moments of freakiness and awe in the record, thinking that these lustful actions will be the thing to make her a wife. Chris Patrick begins his verse with honesty in his tone: “Are you going to Moriah Mills me?” If so, go ahead and start leaking shit; it isn't going to hide the fact that he had you making O faces on separate occasions. Think back at those moments he had you tongue-tied with his skillful bedroom actions and how you never had it like that. He’s stating the facts that you ain’t had someone like him before because there isn’t anyone out there like him, he’s keeping you as his primary and not his side piece, are you down to ride to be able to keep the name, his wife. The track is suave down to the bone with a delightfulness to it that it acts like an audio foreplay before things get hot and steamy, and like that, it ends on a high note to keep you digging back and forth into the project for your listening experience. Wynne surprised us throughout the album, not for the fact that she rapped her ass off, which was a given, but the fact she was able to get in deep with the versatile production and rip through them with ease makes her uniqueness stand out and shine on its own accord. Taking much of her strength to completely bodied every track into submission only takes her next steps forward to be even more impactful to her goal; we couldn’t be happier to see Wynne get the recognition she deserves and more in her journey so far.
Along with the project’s release, Wynne announced that she will be heading out on her “Hot On Their Heels” tour this fall hitting dates in cities like Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver & more to see the EP performed in a live setting. We’ll make sure to leave a link at the bottom for you to purchase your tickets if you haven’t yet. We wish her and her team safe travels during their tour stops, and we hope to get the opportunity to finally meet her during her time in Texas. It’s no surprise for us to say that we highly recommend you check out Wynne’s latest EP here while continuing to share it on all social media avenues.
