Naalah - Oil & Water (EP)
In the mix of us getting busier by the day, we make sure we didn’t forget to post about the queen, Naalah, who summoned a new awakening in her latest EP titled “Oil & Water.” In this EP, we hear the soaked-covered emotional blanket of her trials and tribulations peaking through the other side to be washed away clean to see better days ahead and complete a worthy tale of her journey so far, speaking in volume where your soul will thank you for blessing it with something so unique. The project will gravitate to you in a soundscape of her divine nature to bring out a beautiful direction of music, by far of her most spiritual drops to date that have found peace while also brushing off distant memories to breathe in a new experience to her gradual healing.
The project opens up with the delightful ballad “The Beholder” where the beauty of art lies in the eye of the track’s title. Witnessing all of your beauty at once has her speculating if all this is real, could it be a dream? Pinch her if you can; she needs to know the person who stands firm in front of all with this astounding essence is true to the vision and not just a fantasy. Naalah is deeply rooted in the production of this track; she lays down her wordplay with such a soft tempo and harmonizes the tale so vividly that you feel like you can see her words light up the sky. Naalah continues to walk us through her EP in the following record titled “Intuition,” which speaks on knowing someone’s true intention and being blind to see it so clearly before it is too late. Her suspicions were there but not enough to fully see past the betrayal; now it has her back at war with her mind and consciousness, thinking of how mistakes were made to trust the judgment of the person that is now the reason for her misery. Her spirits were warning her, and her dreams played out the scenario of demise, but still, she didn’t give them the attention they deserved, and now the consequences are becoming her nightmares. Her wrath is built up from the horror you brought to her, and in “Lickback Demo 1,” she unleashes her guilt of trusting you, her anguish of dealing with the aftermath and the pain you left her, in venting the frustration and letting you everything including the kitchen sink. She wants the sight of her in your direction to bring you hell and more, the thought of her she be in your head, living rent-free. Her violent nature peaks through in the record, and still, she sings in harmony of paying the favor of you, bringing her down to feeling it back tenfold and getting yours in return. After hearing the track, I know better than ever being on Naalah’s bad side. The outro record is different from the rest, her flow is more uptempo than the previous record, and she stand out in baring more of her frustration before sticking in the sword for the finishing blow. Naalah provides more havoc in the record, stretching out the flaws of her opposition for the world to see. She deems them to be “Self Proclaimed,” giving reasons for their fake & dirty nature and remembrance of their words in conversation that only show their treacherous ways. Naalah ends the EP on a note where she has found some clarity at the end of her journey to start at a new beginning to find her true meaning.
Naalah has shaken up the city with her music; she is poised with beauty and soul mixed with a delightful sound that holds substance behind it, a true artist to the concept of creativity, and someone with an incredible range that will surely go far beyond the city’s reach. Time will see Naalah in better spirits in much-deserved opportunities spaces soon. Be sure if you haven’t checked out her latest EP or if you’ve been sleeping under a rock to get familiar with Naalah.
