It’s not often that I get a submission in our email and fully commit to writing it right then there, but here we are. I enjoy it when an artist introduces himself instead of leaving just a link; it’s the worst way to approach anyone, especially if you want me to notice you, but the introduction to 4KPHIL. helped me better to see his vision so once I got to peeping his latest release titled “Truancy,” I was immediately sold. Let me start by saying this, all praise to the producer Won Pound whose harmonious production instantly glued me to the release; I thought heaven’s gate was opening, then once 4KPHIL. started rapping, it was done, over, finito, bury your favorite rapper six feet deep and see who the killer is.
Y’all can’t fathom how shook I was when 4KPHIL. first hopped on the beat; he’s like a gatting gun, expelling a drum of eminent talent and greatness in the mix. He speaks about how the days before not being up to par for him, vices of chasing women with small-minded goals not being the move for him anymore. Thinking of the days in his adolescence when his life was left with wicked thoughts, praying that they washed away before things took a turn for the worst. This record speaks raw consciousness, emotionally filled with passion in each word he spits. Life is slowly sticking the knife in him; he pleads not to envy his life because he contemplates ending his daily; the world is on his shoulder, and while his mind race with diabolical tendencies, he compares his own craziness to Ye, not knowing if these are the thought his soon to be seed needs to see. It’s like a battle between his sane self and his berserk mood; days like this are what God puts us through, but will it keep us alive enough to fight forward? This is one of the realest tracks I’ve come across; lately, shit is incredible from start to finish, with the video capturing the essence of it all so perfectly, the mind fighting the urge to afflict pain in the soul but it won’t get in, not without a fight.
