DeShaunJay - Phone Calls 4 (Album)

The fourth installment in DeShaunJay’s Phone Call series dropped in the middle of February, and it’s been doing its fair share of plays throughout our feed where listeners have been attached to it & grabbing new fans with a lasting effect and having them sit with it for a while. There is no surprise why; just set yourself in with a companion for the night, and I guarantee sparks will fly.

The intro record titled “Joseline’s Interlude” is one of the many highlights from this album; it briefly pulls back away from the raps and delivers a soothing vocal performance before DeShaunJay gets to dishing out bedroom talk of how you’ve been going through it solo for a while. Still, now your back with him, and y’all got the bed jumping like it’s possessed. The sheets aren’t dry, probably because of the intimate nights, and she begs to keep it going with both your phones on DND. DeShaun paints the vivid tale of a relationship where someone truly saw the fault in his nature and still commended being with him through thick & thin. Falling deeper in the phone conversation of a past fling, in “Wait,” he hates that he’s taking you through memory lanes, but the feelings are coming up, so just let him vent for a second. We’re all human, and while the thoughts become more apparent that it’s you he wants to speak about, your what makes him tick & sooner or later, it will go off. Let you & DeShaun take it easy on the next trip; he’s looking to make you the “Only” one, and why rush it? He’s enjoying the speed he has you at because he’s admiring the beauty and is taking his time. The double entendres & innuendoes are smooth; DeShaunJay knows how to break away from regular rapping and get in his bag of suaveness to make shit sound cunning and immaculate. It’s a fact I’ll go to lengths to prove why “I-10” is a hit, quite possibly one of my favorite tracks to ride through the city bumping, and that’s what it made for. Still, it wouldn’t be a DeShaun joint unless he was saying some intimate details in the record on the direction of his whip, especially when you drop that pin. The album is full of those late night memories & bedroom soirées; it’s the highlight of the 4-part series that shows monumental growth and pedigree. DeShaun is outside the box looking in with the music; he’s on a conscious level of artistry working and creating some of the finest pieces of content in the city, hell I’ll take it one step further; his music would be adored if it was heard outside the city since I know many will gravitate to the sound & the words.

DeShaunJay is heading to SXSW next week for The Takeover showcase alongside his brethren D’Shaun & many more, so we recommend if you’re going to be out there, make sure you attend. In the meantime, consider peeping at the album below and sharing it around on all social media avenues.
