Angel Cintron - Reimagined: Collection 01 (EP)

You may not like their other side Angel but we love these “other sides”, these reimagined renditions of instant classics in your catalog thus far. On Collection 01, our favorite SANGER floats on down from the Heavens to bless us down on God’s green earth with her 3 latest hits, all stripped down to the sheer intimacy these records truly exude. Opening up with “Slide”, the instrumentation immediately pulls you in, as if we’re slow dancing with Angel herself the way her lyricism glides alongside these strings. Every last element is on showcase here but the instruments are what truly allow us to bask in the poignancy of her vocals. The raw pain & disdain through her lyrics as she’s belting at the disappointment in not only this person but her mistake in letting them in once more can shatter a Prince Rupert’s drop & glass heart alike.

I personally couldn’t guess what the unknown record was prior to this release but her being the brilliant artist she is, structured these three together seamlessly. “Pink Honda Civic” is already of her more tearjerkingly reflective records so to strip it down & leave it to weather like shale between wind & water… go easy on us please. This will have you pondering even further on those reminisces that are not as warm as they once were so honestly, what’s the point in embracing them? The climax at the end of this record though, that emotion surging out her like an artesian well, talk about leaving the audience choked up. Closing out with “Wonder”, things feel a bit more hopeful on probably the most spiritually enthralling of the three. This person is clearly the 8th wonder of the world in her eyes.

Since the release of her 1st “Reimagined” with “Blue Lights”, I remained patient, with the hopes that Angel would reimagine some more & knowing that this only Collection 001 of, who knows how many, she could honestly do one for everything in her archive, these three are enough to hold us over til then. By the way Angel, Friday nights have been getting to me but you make them a bit better. Who honestly wants them to remain the same as we’re used to? Change isn’t always as bad as it initially seems, it’s necessary, as are these reimaginings, as are you Angel, thank you for making Friday’s feel different.
