Chung - See You, When I C U (Album)
Earlier in the month, our creative director, Carter, had put me on to Montreal producer Nicholas Craven whose collaboration with artists like Ransom, Boldy James, Roc Marciano & more have made me a fan of his illustrious production. I’ve been keeping his produce records in daily rotation to start my day with & it was yesterday afternoon I noticed an album titled “See You, When I C U” by Montreal rapper Chung was recently released with production entirely done by Nicholas & fellow Montrealer, Mike Shabb. It had me intrigued since I was unfamiliar with Chung’s sound but knew it had to be prestigious to have both Nicholas & Mike joining forces in bridging these 13-tracks together.
“I get love from the waist down, respect from the waist up.”
From the intro record “More Plays,” you can hear the funky aesthetics of both producers' styles spilling out on wax. At the same time, Chung unleashes her sharp lyrical strays to hit off-head tops and get to supplying prominent wordsmith abilities throughout the project. There’s not one dull record off this project which I instantly love; it’s full of menacing production to be pressed back with paramount rhyme schemes from Chung, who’s swiftly cutting down the competition in her area. Her flow is so sleek, especially with how it attracts to the beat; it’s relaxed and triumphant, simultaneously with being nonchalant when she plays the pattern of being elite with the raps. The production deserves a huge salute since it creates the bases for Chung to swing over the fences in crashing through any speakers to become your new favorite rapper. If she’s lying, then she’s frying “Touch Money” that you only dream about; she does this for the love of the fam, not the gram. Accompanied by joints like “Bigger Fish 2 Fly” & “Bellona,” Chung showcases that looks may be deceiving; while she’s prowess and looking fine, you might think you found someone you can overlook, yet she’s more than that. She’s a go-getter at heart and a hustler by any means, don’t get shit twisted when you see her showing out in the places you wish you could be. Chung is honestly the flyest out here doing it, and if this album isn’t doing it for you, then hop off the bullshit and start recognizing real raw talent when it comes your way.
Best believe, Chung got a new fan over here in Texas now, and we won’t stop pushing out her latest tape until we enlist more into her movement. We highly recommend you check out Chung’s latest project here, and again shout out to Nicholas Craven for the alley-oop on the introduction. (Peace)
