Cush With A C - To Whom Much Is Given (Album)
“To Whom Much Is Given”, much is required, a sentiment Cush is all too familiar with. On his 3rd full length effort, Cush guides us through his newfound understanding that, in the things that he’s rich in, be it his knowledge, wisdom, time, finances & especially his talent, he is expected to benefit others with it. Opening up on a reflective note, he’s staring deep at his reflection in the water, pondering his life up to this point. Many different experiences molded him into the man he is today. No matter what it was he’s dipped his toe in, he did it to the fullest, particularly his craft, as his skill set is beautifully exemplified off rip. He’s determined to use his words to plant seeds & grow the fruits of his labor for all his loved ones to savor alongside him cause if he ain’t doing this for them then what for?
Too many people love to act like they don’t know you really got it like that. When you’re rhyming at a level like this, it’s almost like people get typecast like oh, there goes Cush, killing it again, as he should. At the end of the day, this Hip Hop shit is bloodsport & on “Pound 4 Pound”, Cush more than holds his own weight against the supposed competition, more like a sorry excuse for his opposition if you ask him. This is child’s play for him. The real challenge is when he bleeds his heart & soul on the introspective when faced with the “Highs & Lows” of life. He reflects on the things that drove him to strive for more, for better, like seeing his brother thuggin’, he ain’t judging though, rather hoped that one day he’d be in a position to where his brother wouldn’t have to live that life anymore. It was either Rap, thug it out or play for the league & ultimately rap won but don’t think he still ain’t nasty on the court, just ask his cousins, they’ll tell you he still got it.
Sounding like that afterglow, Cush is hoping his leisure lasts for a lifetime on “Vacation 4 Life”. He’s down to bring her along for the trip but only for one night, she can’t get too comfortable with him, he’s always on the move. He can’t bring everybody along with him though to enjoy these fruits, some ain’t deserving of it & are sneaky. They give up on you before the glow up then expect you to share your wealth once you attain it but it don’t work like that. He ain’t really looking for that love shit anymore, he’s experienced enough in his love life to deter him away from being bound to one person like that but if she’s just in need of that one night stand, she can always hit him up when he’s on the “WESTSIDE”. He’s the life of the party, simply trying to have a good time then it’s onto the next but with “Numbers On The Board”, he, Devy & Donny find themselves a bit more infatuated with these baddies than they could’ve ever anticipated.
Cush don’t spit real talk, he just be talking & that shit just be real, as we hear on “Nobody Fuckin Wit Me”, a subdued soulful number that finds him waxes his skills even more eloquently as he bars just soothe their way into your psyche, lifting you up “Higher” than you’ve ever been. Pat Ron comes through blowing that sativa on his feature here, both lyricists beautifully in sync with one another. The hustle remains in his blood, no matter how hard this life can get, he knows he deserves the same love he continuously gives out to everybody else. No matter who’s hating, he’s aware of what’s expected of him & chooses to lead by example on what may just be his magnum opus, given some time.
