Kevin McGee feat Highstrung - Get It (Video)
I’m gonna say it, Kevin McGee is one of the most criminally underrated artists here in the city & he’s still barely getting warmed up, still reminding folks of the timeless records the entirety of his magnum opus “Comeback Kev” consists of. Although he more than holds his own solo dolo, it’s always nice to see our seasoned MC’s link up to create something beautiful, to simply go out there & “Get It” & if you know these two, oh they get it alright, they get that this game requires skill, not just from the lyrical standpoint either, which both of these gentlemen have been doing long enough to stand firmly on but musically, which, the more they both continue dropping the music they’ve been dropping, the more quality it gets. Kev has been very consistent with the quantity of art he puts out & his music videos really help records like this pop all the more!
It’s fitting too with this heat we’ve been getting that these two would be the culprits. Kevin is the go to artist if you want that anthemic Hip Hop, that shit that’ll get the block jumping & then to have a hometown hero like Highstrung come through with his scathing performance, how could this not be a good block party?! The hook is so simple yet so irresistible & it really gives the record a much needed breather before we get into both artists dripping so disrespectfully but that ain’t what they mopping these floors with, that’d be the tears of the competition who unfortunately wasn’t able to get one over on them, better luck next time & hopefully you ain’t ill prepared cause these boys are breaking ankles with these bars!
Focus Films did a fantastic jobs of catching these good brothers in their element, just feeding off one another’s energy. Both MC’s really inspire each other to bring their A game cause shit can get tricky on this court but the ball is in their favor, their capable hands & they really swished it away with this number. Kevin is ill in the fact that, he can slow it down & keep it simple with you & still rap better than a lot of dudes who rely on extra shit to sound dope. He just has that rhythm & flow, you even see it in him getting jiggy with it to this beat! Highstrung however, completely steals the show with one of his rawest verses yet! It’s beautiful seeing him continue linking with his peers. That man’s presence is more than felt! Hopefully we continue to see these two link for more records cause they got a good synergy going on this record!
