Rapid Ric - Whut It Dew 6 (Seis) (Album)

Since late April, Rapid Ric had been heavily promoting the return of his legendary mixtape series, Whut It Dew, by allowing fans to purchase an exclusive box set that included the famed tee of the series name & a USB that held his mixes of the previous Whut It Dew tapes. He then began to announce his rollout plans for his sixth entry to surface in June. Ric said it would start with the first single, which featured both Rich Greedy & Sertified on a freestyle accompanied by a visual to get the anticipation growing. The following weeks after the single dropped, he would later make more announcements that included the cover art of the mixtape and the tracklist featuring artists like Chingo Bling, Bo Bundy, Peso Peso, Southside Hoodlum, Doeman & many more. The cover of the mixtape donned a photo of Houston’s own Rome, who had passed away in October of last year, which the lone star state had taken as a dramatic loss to see such a heartfelt soul leave too soon. If you knew Rome, you knew his heart was wrapped in gold and that his goal was always to make you laugh while feeling high-spirited when you were around him. To see him on the cover made this project even more special, knowing his presence continues to live on, which shows the passion he had for music & the culture. After waiting patiently for months, the album surfaced earlier this week, with many fans & listeners expressing deep-rooted support for the project. The Latino sound can be heard going through deep lengths on this album which is incredible to hear & it also welcomes back an era that many felt was forgotten but let Rapid Ric show you that it’s here, and it will forever be here.

Growing up hearing the skill sets of the mixtape mechanic Rapid Ric, I can tell you right off the back that hearing the intro to this tape brought back some great memories. It didn’t talk long until we got a familiar sound on the tape, which happened to come from the Tamale Kingpin himself, Chingo Bling, who begins telling his history of his come up to the success he’s living in now. He’s accompanied by Texudolla & Young Mex, two vital artists to the scene, which didn’t stop to see more artists of high-caliber get to spitting. “Not Your Friend” with The Mexican OT & Bo Bundy got to be a first standout joint to me since the zesty production set the vibes out strong by having both artists go off in their exotic nature. Bringing out the firepower like a dragon on top of lava, The Mexican OT shines first by applying immense pressure, with Bo anchoring the record in a precision format that continues hearing him stepping outside the box of rap. The roaring spectacular of the following track, “Playa Made Vato” with Young Clean & Peso Peso, is tough from beginning to end; both these artists come swinging right out the gate and leave bodies laid out on the concrete from the heavy-hitting flow to the vigorous nature of the two. I think from the jump; you expected to get into some savory joints like “Candy Coated Dreams” with GT Garza, Southside Hoodlum & Migo On The Track, or “Richmond Freestyle” with Doeman & Dat Boi T. The summer is in trouble this season, guarantee you’ll see the SLABs out in no time blaring this album at ignorant levels throughout the rest of the year. Rapid Ric rolled out the carpet for his return, and the people celebrated with valiant efforts to crown the DJ to be one of the leading saviors of the mixtape era.

It’s a beautiful thing to see Rapid Ric bring so many great Mexican artists all together for his Seis entry. Not telling yet if he’ll continue forward, but if I had to be a betting man, I would say we could be seeing a seventh entry much later in the future. Only speculations, of course, nothing expressed yet, but let's enjoy the sixth tape before we start discussing future endeavors. Be sure to check out the album here and make sure to share it around on all social media avenues.
